  • This study intended to interpretate the current value of the cultural landscape resources in Gwansan region, Gwangju-si. The 35 significant cultural landscape resources in Gwangsan region appear education, people in history, living residence, religion & belief, distribution of cultural site, tomb, industry, topographic scenery characteristics. They are classified such as 22 traditional landscape resources, 7 modern landscape resources, 6 natural landscape resources. The significant cultural landscape resources were evaluated by value items of 4 natural landscape, 4 social, and 5 cultural. As a result of value evaluation on the cultural landscape resources in Gwangsan region, the highest value were appeared on the cultural items, while the lowest value were appeared on the social items. And high evaluation were appeared on regional identity, cultural preservation, regional monumentality, visibility, while low evaluation were appeared on unique naturality and connectivity of assets.

  • This study aims to suggest an evaluation methodology of green-tourism potential for village level with amenity resources in rural areas. The amenity resources system was classified into three sub-classes(social, industrial, and natural/cultural/historical resources) and a relationship diagram between three classes and tourists' behavior was also defined. The methodology considers human resources in the village including the three sub-class amenity resources. The table and diagram were applied to make renewal plan for rural villages of the study area, Nami-myun, Keumsan-gun, Chungnam province, so that the development scheme for the villages was suggested reasonably by the new findings of this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship among the identity, lifestyle and satisfaction with family resources of rural married persons. The subjects of this study were 435 married women and men in Ansung. The major findings were as follows: 1. The identity of rural married persons was significantly different depending on their gender and educational level. 2. Their lifestyle was significantly different depending on their gender, educational level, job, the type of dwelling, and family income. 3. Their satisfaction with family resources was significantly different depending on their educational level, job, the type of dwelling, and family income. 4. There was positive correlation among their identity, lifestyle and satisfaction with family resources of the rural married persons.

  • Effective information "query and retrieval" process is one of the fundamental problems in the field communication and information science and has become especially important due to dramatic increase in magnitude of information to be processed in modern era. Of particular importance at information exchange process, our study focuses on compositions of proper queries and retrieval of rural amenity resources. This particular task has been difficult because the rural amenity resources does not necessarily carry measurable traits and also contains huge amount of data. In this Letter, we propose an alternative approach to the architecture of the resource information system by use of a noble retrieval algorithm based on ontology. Test of efficiency and applicability of this new scheme was conducted, and it showed that this has possibility to be effective information retrieval process of rural amenity resources.

  • With the globalized coming of the knowledge-based society following the post-industrial period, both the crises and opportunities have been occurring together as non-special affairs, which is the same situation in Rural Korea. A crucial key for maximization of potentialities of emerging opportunities is to mobilize the multi-valuedness embedded in rural areas as one of new growth powers. In order to realize a variety of multi-valuedness of rurality, it should be needed to re-discover and re-evaluate rural resources by paradigm shift and to identify the multi-valuedness of resources systematically and scientifically. On the basis of this understanding, this study aimed at setting up the evaluation indicators system by rural village types to identify systematically the multi-valuedness embedded in rural villages in the initial step. Integrated evaluation indicators system was made with 4-level hierarchies; high-leveled one with 3 fields(society, environment, regional economy); middle-leveled one with 8 areas; lower-leveled one with 19 sub-areas; detailed indicators totally with 39 items. These indicators were divided into 12 basic indicators applied to all types and 27 specialized indicators determining the characteristics of village types.

  • The purpose of this paper is to test the applicability of the rural amenity values assessment model(RAVAM) to a case study area. To verify the practical applicabilities of the RAVAM, south-east area of Kyounggi province was selected as a study area. Full data of 101 Myuns of Kyounggi province were gathered with Geographic In-formation System(GIS) and Remote Sensing(RS) techniques. All the 101 Myuns' rural amenity resources were assessed. Cluster analysis was performed on almost intact nature, interaction between nature and man, man-made amenity values to classify rural amenity characteristics. It was expected that the proposed RAVAM could be used in developing rural development plans considering local rural amenity resources' distribution.

  • The soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is one of the most important crop resources worldwide as food and forage. It is also important and valuable that to hold crop resources to have high genetic diversities. Recently, a core collection has been constructed in many plants to preserve the genetic resources of various plants. A core collection is small population to represent the genetic diversity of the total collection, and is of strategic importance as they allow the use of a small part of a germplasm collection that is representative of the total collection. Here, we developed the core collection consisting of 816 accessions by using approximately 180,000 (180K) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) developed in previous study. In addition, we performed genetic diversity and population structure analysis to construct the core collection from entire 4,392 collections. there were excluded sample call rates less than 93% and duplicated samples more than 99.9% according to genotype analysis using 180K SNPs from entire collections. Furthermore, we were also excluded natural hybrid resources which Glycine max and Glycine soja are mixed in half through population structure analysis. As a result, we are constructed the core collection of genetic diversity that reflects 99% of the entire collections, including 430 cultivated soybeans (Glycine max) and 386 wild soybeans (Glycine soja). The core collection developed in this study should be to provide useful materials for both soybean breeding programs and genome-wide association studies.

  • This study intends to conduct a thorough research and analysis on the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in order to bridge the gap between the temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in country and city, and understand the current status of the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in rural and urban areas. As a result, the designated temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in urban areas are bigger and have higher capacity, implying the necessity to designate facilities in rural areas that can accommodate larger number of people. As to the analysis of the representative temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims in rural areas, different regions had different types of designated facilities and the number of facilities also showed big difference depending on regions. So it is believed that local governments should improve the process and system of designating temporary residential facilities for the disaster victims.

  • Rural Amenity Design Competition is opened every year since 2003 having an intention of improving spatial design and planning of rural area through developing values of rural amenity resources and applying in that area. The subject of this competition is broad and there's no limit in locations so that various solutions and original ideas could be proposed. This research examined 165 prizewinning works of the competition and analyzed the locations and areas, aims, main resources, spatial planning contents and experience programs to find out trends of rural spatial design. According to the study, the prizewinning works tends to 1) include spatial plan for an existing village planning, 2) aim rural tourism for citizens and increasement of resident's incomes, 3) develop vegetation and agricultural resources, 4) plan for natural landscape, commercialization of local special productions and agriculture, and 5) propose ecological experience programs. The same theme of the competition repeated every year had led to advanced design skills but also a stagnant of design contents. A subject and a main goal of the Rural Amenity Design Competition should be departmentalized each time hereafter to make for the weak points and propose progressive direction for the rural spatial design.
