A pilot-scale hybrid membrane bioreactor (HMBR) for real municipal wastewater treatment was developed by adding biofilm carriers into a conventional membrane bioreactor, distribution and dynamic changes of the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and their roles in membrane fouling were investigated. The results showed that the concentrations of loosely bond EPS (LB-EPS) and tightly bond EPS (TB-EPS) in activated sludge, carrier biofilm and sludge cake layer have been increased significantly with the running time of HMBR, during operation of the HMBR, EPS demonstrated positive correlations with membrane fouling. Compared to TB-EPS, LB-EPS showed more significant correlations with sludge physical properties and specific resistance to filtration (SRF) in HMBR, and thus demonstrated that LP-EPS have a stronger potential of fouling than TB-EPS. It was also found that a lower organic loading in HMBR could result a significant increase in EPS concentration, which would in turn influence membrane fouling in HMBR. This critical investigation would contribute towards a better understanding of the behavior, composition and fouling potential of EPS in HMBR operation.
It is very important that establishing the valve train equations and representing the behavior of the valve train parts. To maintain the specific efficiency of running engine, the cam profile of valve train has more specific influence on the adequate behavior of the valve train than a valve clearance, heat-resistance and durability of parts. The polynomial cam, the multipol cam and polydyne cam profie are widely used to represent cam behaviour. In this study, using polydyne cam design profile equations which is more adequate for representing high speed engine, the geometrical modeling and mathmatical variable analysis are established to analysis the valve behaviour.

The counter balancing is a technique to control a load which is acting to actuator when the load changes from a resistance state to over running state according to the structural change of the load for the case of lifting or carrying a heavy load in industrial site. Even though this technique is frequently used in industrial site, there is no widely known design procedure and educational equipment in home and abroad. Therefore, in this study a new idea was presented to develop an counter balancing educational equipment. The idea was realized through the process of system modeling and simulation, drawing out of design parameters, manufacturing of a prototype. Finally the usefulness of this developed educational equipment was demonstrated by experiments. It is expected that by using this equipment a big help would be given to students who should understand the counter balancing equipment which is frequently encountered in industrial site.

It has been noted that the low frequency absorption coefficient of a porous sample placed in a standing wave tube is affected by the nature of the sample's edge constraint. The edge constraint has the effect of stiffening the solid phase of the sample, which itself can be strongly coupled to the material's fluid phase, and hence the incident sound field, by viscous means at low frequencies. In recent work it has also been shown that such a circumferential constraint causes the low frequency transmission loss of a layer of fibrous material to approach a finite low frequency limit that is proportional to the flow resistance of the layer and which is substantially higher than that of an unconstrained sample of the same material. However, it was also found that the benefit of the circumferential edge constraint was reduced in a transitional frequency range by a shearing resonance of the sample. Here it will be shown that the effect of that resonance can be mitigated or eliminated by adding additional axial and radial constraints running through the sample. It will also be shown that the constraint effect can be modeled closely by using a finite element procedure based on the Biot poroelastic theory. Implications for low frequency barrier design are also discussed.
There are eight kinds of railroad vehicles such as KTX, PP(Push-Pull), NEL(New Electric Locomotive), EL(Electric Locomotive), DL(Diesel Locomotive), CDC(Commuter's Diesel Car), VVVF(Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) and Resistance Control Car that Korail corporation presently runs, and a variety of vehicles just like EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) and DMU(Diesel Multiple Unit) currently developed and accepted are running in the near future. However, There is still no design standard of the control stand of cockpit and the same compatibility of forms and control unit arrangements for locomotive engineers because no one has tried to approach in an ergonomic way. It can cause Locomotive engineers to make errors using the machinery. when the new vehicles are adopted, The efficiency of operation will quite fall down due to the separate training of the engineers. Therefore, We'd like to improve the accuracy of manipulating the machinery used by the engineers at all times according to the design standard of ergonomic technology and safety engineering and increase the operational efficiency and the safety of railroad vehicles in order to handle the problems as quickly as we can in an emergent situation.

The running attitude of a planing hull is determined by the pressure distribution on the hull bottom, and it significantly affects hydrodynamic performance of the ship, i.e., resistance, maneuverability, and seakeeping ability. Therefore, it is essential to investigate pressure distribution on the hull bottom in order to improve hull design. In the present study, a novel pressure measurement system using tactile sensors was introduced for a planing hull. The test model was a 23 m-class planing hull with a hard chine. The pressure measurement showed that the pressure at the transom was lower than the atmospheric pressure, owing to flow separation at the transom.
Coating brittle intermetallic compounds on metal can enlarge the range of their use. It is found that intermetallic compound coating layers made by only combustion synthesis in an electric furnace have porous multi-phase structures containing several intermediate phases, even though the coating layers show good wear resistance. In this study, dense $Ni_{3}Al$ single phase layer corresponding to the initial composition of the mixed powder is coated on two different ferrous materials by the diffusing treatment after combustion synthesis. After- ward, sliding wear behaviors of the coating layer are evaluated in comparison with that of the coating layer with porous multi-phase structure made by only combustion synthesis. As a result, the wear properties of the coating layer composed of dense $Ni_{3}Al$ single phase are considerably improved at the range of low sliding speed com- pared with that of the coating layer with porous multi-phase structure, particularly in the running-in wear region. This is attributed to the fact that wear of the coating layer is progressed by shearing as a sequence of adhesion, not by occurring of pitting on the worn surface due to having dense structure without pores.

The ice tank is important facility to check the performance of the ship and offshore in ice condition before the construction. MOERI(Maritime & Ocean Engineering Research Institute) constructed ice model basin on the end of 2010. The ice technology to know the phenomena of ice near the ship and to estimate power of the ship in model scale is the main characteristic of the ice model basin. To achieve this goal in one ice sheet, making of test plan and feasibility check of test possibility have to review in the beginning stage of the every test. This paper describes the number of maximum resistance and self propulsion test in a sheet of level ice and proposes the methodology to optimize pack ice, rubble ice, brash ice and ice ridge test in MOERI ice tank. The feasibility of free running test to know maneuvering performance in ice field and some specific idea to measuring ice thickness and ice ridge shape was proposed.
The wearing slider of the rail motor car's pantograph is considerable changed by the type and the material properties. Especially, precipitation and arc influences are main factors decided to life time of wearing slider and contact wire. This study is wearing phenomenon analysis of Cu-type wearing slider with high electric conductivity and resistance arc through experiment by running train. Author observed that wearing phenomenon of Cu-type wearing slider with normal and abnormal wearing characteristics and comparatively analysis precipitation, mileage and weight influences of exchanged Cutype and Fe-type wearing sliders. In this paper result showed that necessity for the application which is the Fe-type of wearing slider had superior wear resisting capacity etc., through tribology approach.

In this study, the effects of hydrodynamic interceptors on a high-speed vessel were investigated to identify the operating principle based on experiments. Model tests were performed using a high-speed towing carriage. The resistance, trim and rise of Center of Gravity (CG) of the high-speed vessel were measured for various ship speeds and interceptor heights. As the interceptor height increased, the trim and rise of CG were reduced. In order to quantitatively analyze these phenomena, the pressure at the stern bottom was measured using tactile sensors. The reliability of the measured results from the tactile sensors was verified through repeat tests. The pressure on the stern bottom increased in proportion to the interceptor height, as the interceptor partially blocked the flow there. Then, the trim was reduced. However, as the ship speed increases, the pressure at the location close to the interceptor decreases when the interceptor height is small, leading to increased trim. Therefore, the interceptor height for running attitude control should be carefully determined considering multiple factors in the operating condition of the high-speed planing hull.
