Nuclear energy consumption and CO2 emissions in India: Evidence from Fourier ARDL bounds test approach

  • This study uses data from 1970 to 2016 to analyze the effect of nuclear energy use on CO2 emissions and attempts to validate the EKC hypothesis using the Fourier Autoregressive Distributive Lag model in India for the first time. Because of India's rapidly rising population, the environment is being severely strained. However, with 22 operational nuclear reactors, India boasts tremendous nuclear energy potential to cut down on CO2 emissions. The EKC is validated in India as the significant coefficients of GDP and GDP.2 The short-run estimates also suggest that most environmental externalities are corrected within a year. Given the findings, some policy recommendations abound. The negative statistically significant coefficient of nuclear energy consumption is an indication that nuclear power expansion is essential to achieving clean and sustainable growth as a policy goal. Also, policymakers should enact new environmental laws that support the expansion and responsible use of nuclear energy as it is cleaner than fossil fuels and reduces the cost and over-dependence on oil, which ultimately leads to higher economic growth in the long run. Future research should consider studying the nonlinearities in the nuclear energy-CO2 emissions nexus as the current study is examined in the linear sense.

  • By analyzing the impact of oil prices on economic growth, this study has shown a new insight into the link between oil price inflation and economic growth. The primary goal of this study is to determine if oil prices are pro-growth or anti-growth. To provide empirical proof, the series data for both the core and control variables from 1972 to 2020 was used to justify the association on empirical grounds. To account for the presence of a unit root, the Augmented Dickey-Fuller Test was used, and after making the series compatible for co-integration, the Autoregressive distributed lag model was used to determine the empirical estimate. Additionally, the empirical models were used to diagnose heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation. The reference point model reveals that in developing nations like Pakistan, economic growth is anti-growth with an increase in prices, and it responds negatively to economic growth in the long and short run. As a result, oil price inflation in Pakistan fails to have a significant beneficial impact on economic growth in both the long and short run, but it does raise the general price level in the economy.

  • This paper deals with the study on repair case of journal shaft and bearing damage in 25MW industrial gas turbine caused by sudden blackout, operation mistake, and logic abnormal, etc. When a serious accident such as journal and bearing damage in a gas turbine occurs, the domestic local companies having the gas turbine are dependent on manufacturer for all maintenance and repair schedule until now. This case study shows that the damaged gas turbine is normally re-operated itself in domestic by establishing repair schedule in a short period of time, repairing damage journal shaft and tilting pad bearings, and performing rotating test for a reliability check. This paper can be regarded as the important case study of emergency test run experience of the refurbished 25MW gas turbine rotor.

  • Smart battery pack (SBP) for notebook PCs was developed using a cylindrical-type lithium ion battery. Batteries were connected with three serial and two parallel, the nominal capacity and the maximum load of SBP was 4,000mAh and 4.0A, respectively. The SBP was composed of a protection IC, by which safety of lithium ion batteries is maintained against overcharge, overdischarge and overcurrent, and a smart IC, which calculates the remaining capacity and the remaining run time. In matching test on notebook PC using Battery Mark 4.0, real and smart data of END voltage coincided nearly and LB and LLB signal worked norma]]y. And there were errors of less than 1% between the real and the smart data on the residual capacity in the charge and discharge test.

  • The transmission system of high speed train serve in the severe condition compared with those of other trains, namely, they have to transmit high power to run with high speed and they have to make maximum use of the limited space. To clarify the strength of gear for Korea High-Speed Train, a bending fatigue test of gear specimen is performed and compare with actual gear's. From this result, specimen test is useful to infer S-N curve and endurance limit of actual gear that much time and expense are consumed.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a simulation model which substitutes a sled test of train seat. The occupants behaviors of Saemaeul-ho two passenger seats were simulated using MAYDMO(MAthematical DYnamical MOdel) and these results compared with those of sled test. To improve the simulation model which used in previous study, the plastic behaviors of the pedestal were considered and the rear seats are represented as ellipsoid multi-body model instead of finite element model. Using the improved model, we could reduce the computer run time and get more accurate results.

Relative SATD-based Minimum Risk Bayesian Framework for Fast Intra Decision of HEVC

  • High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) enables significantly improved compression performance relative to existing standards. However, the advance also requires high computational complexity. To accelerate the intra prediction mode decision, a minimum risk Bayesian classification framework is introduced. The classifier selects a small number of candidate modes to be evaluated by a rate-distortion optimization process using the sum of absolute Hadamard transformed difference (SATD). Moreover, the proposed method provides a loss factor that is a good trade-off model between computational complexity and coding efficiency. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a 31.54% average reduction in the encoding run time with a negligible coding loss of 0.93% BD-rate relative to HEVC test model 16.6 for the Intra_Main common test condition.

열처리 환경에서 웨이브렛 적응 필터를 이용한 초음파 비파괴 검사의 결함 검출 (Flaw Detection of Ultrasonic NDT in Heat Treated Environment Using WLMS Adaptive Filter)

  • 본 논문에서는 그레인 잡음을 제거하기 위해서 웨이브렛 변환(wavelet transform)에 근간을 둔 웨이브렛 적응 필터(WLMS adaptive filter : Wavelet domain Least Mean Square adaptive filter)를 사용하였다. 보통 그레인 잡음은 고온의 환경에서 금속의 결정구조가 변화함에 따라 발생된다. 웨이브렛 평면에서의 적응 필터링은 필터의 입력신호를 직교 변환하여 입력으로 이용함으로써 수렴 속도를 향상시킬 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 적응 필터의 기준 입력 신호는 원시 입력 신호를 지연시킨 신호를 이용하였으며, 적응 필터의 출력은 다시 CA-CFAR(Cell Average - Constant False Alarm Rate) 임계 추정기(threshold estimator)를 거쳐 자동적으로 원하는 신호부분만 나타내도록 하였다. 우선 신호의 통계적 특성을 알기 위하여 run 테스트를 수행하여 기준 입력 신호가 비정상성(nonstationarity)을 나타냄을 보였고, 웨이브렛 적응필터가 시평면 적응필터보다 수렴속도면에서 우수함을 보였으며, 각 적응 필터의 출력신호에 대해서 신호대 잡음비를 통해 성능평가를 하였다. 시평면 적응 필터링 후에는 신호대 잡음비가 2-3㏈ 향상을 보였고, 반면 웨이브렛 적응 필터링후에는 신호대 잡음비가 4-6㏈ 향상을 보였다.

기후변화를 고려한 GIS 자료 기반의 금강유역 수문기상시계열 특성 분석 (A Hydrometeorological Time Series Analysis of Geum River Watershed with GIS Data Considering Climate Change)

  • 본 연구는 금강유역을 대상으로 과거 약 30년간의 기상 수문시계열자료들을 수집해 다양한 통계분석을 수행하여 기후변화의 영향을 정량적으로 파악하고자 하였다. 기상자료로 금강유역 기상관측소 8개소의 37개년(1973~2009)의 기온, 강수량, 상대습도 자료를 수집하였고, 하천수위자료는 수위자료와 수위-유량관계곡선의 신뢰성 문제, 이후 수행될 장기유출분석을 고려하여 공주, 규암 수위관측소의 36개년(1973~2008)의 자료를 이용하였다. 수집된 자료의 평균, 표준편차, 왜곡도, 변동계수를 산출하여 연 계절별로 수문기상인자의 경년변화를 파악한 결과 기상인자 중 강수량의 변동성이 가장 크게 나타나 경년별 변화가 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 수문학적 지속성 분석을 위해 Run 검정, Turning Point 검정, Anderson Exact검정을 이용하여 시계열자료에 주기성이 있는지 분석한 결과 기온과 강수는 무작위성, 상대습도, 하천수위는 지속성을 가지는 인자로 분석되었고 지하수위는 관측소별, 기간별로 무작위성과 지 속성이 혼재되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 경향성 분석을 위해 단순 선형 회귀분석과 Mann-Kendall 검정법을 이용한 결과 기온은 연 계절 모두 증가경향이 나타났고, 강수량은 여름에만 증가경향이 나타났으며, 상대습도는 뚜렷한 감소경향을 보였다. 본 연구의 결과는 기후변화로 인해 발생될 수 있는 수자원의 영향을 평가하고 미래 물 관리 적응기술 개발 및 계획 수립을 위한 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • In this paper we consider optimal designs of partially constant-stress life testing which is deviced for three-component mixed systems with the considerably long time. Mixed systems are jointed serial system with parallel system. Test items are run at both use condition and accelerated condition until a specified censoring time. The optimal criterion for the sample-proportion allocated to accelerated condition is to minimized asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimators of the acceleration factor and hazard rates.
