Hydraulic experiments are performed in order to verify the swash effect of seashore structures installed to prevent scouring. However, a great deal of investment and time are required for producing the test apparatus and seashore structure used to perform the hydraulic experiment. The swash effect can be predicted, however, by using a numerical model and validation can be done based on comparisons of the numerical model and hydraulic experiment analysis results, thereby saving the cost and time required for producing the test apparatus and seashore structure. Taking a polyhedral rubble mound structure as the subject, this study performed a comparative analysis of wave run-up and run-down height of the numerical model interpretative results and the hydraulic experiment results, and validated the interpretative simulation wave test modeling technique. The study also predicted the swash effect by using the numerical interpretation approach method, whereby the volume ratio and friction area of the rubble mound were varied for different results.

A firing test of the 75 tonf-class liquid rocket engine to be used as the first and second stage engines of the KSLV-II was carried out at the rocket engine test facility(RETF). Since this engine uses liquid oxygen as the oxidizer, which is a cryogenic fluid, it is essential that the chill down of the supply pipe line and engine proceed for the firing test; thus, the given inlet requirements must be met. Moreover, it is important to understand the chill down characteristics of the facility and the engine and the amount of liquid oxygen consumed in the chill down process for efficient test operation in the future. In this paper, chill down characteristics of the supply pipe and the engine were evaluated through the investigation of the chill down process of the 75 tonf-class liquid rocket engine at each stage before and after run tank pressurization. In addition, the amount of liquid oxygen consumed was also evaluated.
In this paper a transfer method model was introduced in order to analyze critical speeds and vibration modes of a flexible rotor system, whose rotor shaft is cupped into and fitted with a thin-walled cylinder at its end. The computed analysis results were compared with those of the experimental modal test. Both results show good agreement each other. Furthermore the free-run(or run-down) test result for the real rotor system also shows that the proposed transfer matrix method modelling can be successfully applicable to analyzing accurate critical speeds(or natural frequencies) of the rotor system.

A reaction wheel assembly(RWA) is the largest disturbance source that can induce high frequency micro-vibration on an optical payload of satellites. To ensure a tight pointing-stability budget of satellites, the RWA disturbance effect on spacecraft should be accurately analyzed and evaluated for whole design phases. For this purpose, the micro-vibration disturbance of RWA should be precisely measured. In the present study, two measurement methods on RWA micro-vibration disturbances are compared and investigated. One is a free run-down speed test and the other is a constant speed test. The micro-vibration data measured by the two methods are analyzed in terms of spectrum characteristics, static and dynamic imbalance values, and root sum square(RSS) values. The analysis results show that both methods can measure very similar results in time and frequency domains and that the free run-down speed method is more adequate in respects to wheel friction modeling, noise rejection of imbalance and RSS peak evaluation.
The reliability on high cycle fatigue damage mechanism for new blades manufactured by reverse-engineering is demonstrated by success-run test. Turbine blades always experience various dynamic loads in turbine operation, as well as being in resonance condition and forced by fluid-induced vibrations mostly during run-up/down, which may accumulate high cycle damage to the blades. The accidents caused by blade failure especially incur not only a lot of troubles to the machinery but also huge financial losses. Therefore it is necessary to verify the reliability of blades in advance for the safe use. The success run test for the reliability demonstration is designed and performed for the new blades using the technique known as resonant high cycle fatigue testing.

In this paper, we propose an LTBC (Low Tension and Load Balance Control) scheme to improve a coiling shape control by reduction the tension fluctuation by the torque disturbance in the down coiler process of hot strip mills. The proposed controller is a combination of an LTC to control the overload at load-on in the mandrel and an LBC to regulate the load balance of the upper and bottom pinch roll. A tension calculation model is suggested with the concept of the tension deviation. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified from simulation under a disturbance of the pinch roll torque. Using a field test, we show that the performance of the shape and tension control is improved by the LTBC control.

The study examines the nexus between financial development and economic growth in India during Q1: 1996 to Q3: 2018. This study employs time-series data of real GDP and ratio of broad money to GDP as a proxy for economic and financial development, respectively. The data are obtained from RBI database on the Indian economy. All variables are seasonally adjusted using X12-arima technique and expressed in natural logarithm form. Non-linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) bound test has been used to check for cointegrating relationship of these two variables. Empirical findings suggest that, unlike in the short run, in the long run financial development does impact economic growth positively. Further, a symmetric effect of positive and negative components of financial development is found for the Indian economy, whereas the effect of control variable like exchange rate and trade openness is in consonance with common economic intuition. Exchange rate is in consonance with intuitive economic logic that a fall in exchange rate makes exports cheaper and increases the quantity of export, which improves the balance of payment and leads to a rise in aggregate demand, hence improves economic growth. This paper contributes to the existing literature on India by breaking down financial indicator into positive and negative components to examine the finance-growth relationship.
This study uses data from 1970 to 2016 to analyze the effect of nuclear energy use on CO2 emissions and attempts to validate the EKC hypothesis using the Fourier Autoregressive Distributive Lag model in India for the first time. Because of India's rapidly rising population, the environment is being severely strained. However, with 22 operational nuclear reactors, India boasts tremendous nuclear energy potential to cut down on CO2 emissions. The EKC is validated in India as the significant coefficients of GDP and GDP.2 The short-run estimates also suggest that most environmental externalities are corrected within a year. Given the findings, some policy recommendations abound. The negative statistically significant coefficient of nuclear energy consumption is an indication that nuclear power expansion is essential to achieving clean and sustainable growth as a policy goal. Also, policymakers should enact new environmental laws that support the expansion and responsible use of nuclear energy as it is cleaner than fossil fuels and reduces the cost and over-dependence on oil, which ultimately leads to higher economic growth in the long run. Future research should consider studying the nonlinearities in the nuclear energy-CO2 emissions nexus as the current study is examined in the linear sense.

A 300Wh class flywheel energy storage system using high Tc superconductor bearings(HTC SFES) is being developed by KIMM and KEPRI. HTC SFES consists of a flywheel rotor, superconductor bearings, a motor/generator and its controller, touch-down bearings, vacuum chamber, etc. Stiffness and damping values of superconductor bearings were experimentally estimated to be 67,700N/m and 29Ns/m respectively. The present HTC SFES was designed to have maximum operating speed of 33000 rpm, which is far above 2 rigid body mode critical speeds of 645rpm and 1,275rpm. Leaf-spring type touch-down bearing were utilized to have the system pass safely through the system critical speeds. It has been experimentally verified that the system can run stably up to 28,000 rpm so that HTC SFES is now expected to reach up to its maximum design speed of 33,000rpm without any difficulties. The Halbach array motor & generator has also been proven its effectiveness on transferring electrical energy to a rotaing composite flywheel in kinetic form.

The Horizon Run 4 is a cosmological N-body simulation designed for the study of coupled evolution between galaxies and large-scale structures of the Universe, and for the test of galaxy formation models. Using 63003 gravitating particles in a cubic box of Lbox = 3150 h−1Mpc, we build a dense forest of halo merger trees to trace the halo merger history with a halo mass resolution scale down to Ms = 2.7 × 1011h−1M⊙. We build a set of particle and halo data, which can serve as testbeds for comparison of cosmological models and gravitational theories with observations. We find that the FoF halo mass function shows a substantial deviation from the universal form with tangible redshift evolution of amplitude and shape. At higher redshifts, the amplitude of the mass function is lower, and the functional form is shifted toward larger values of ln(1/σ). We also find that the baryonic acoustic oscillation feature in the two-point correlation function of mock galaxies becomes broader with a peak position moving to smaller scales and the peak amplitude decreasing for increasing directional cosine μ compared to the linear predictions. From the halo merger trees built from halo data at 75 redshifts, we measure the half-mass epoch of halos and find that less massive halos tend to reach half of their current mass at higher redshifts. Simulation outputs including snapshot data, past lightcone space data, and halo merger data are available at http://sdss.kias.re.kr/astro/Horizon-Run4.
