  • For efficient storage and transmission of medical images, the requirement of image com pression is increasing. Because differences between reconstructed images and original images are related with errors In the diagnosis, lossless compression is generally preferred in mod- ical images. in Run Length Coding which is one of the lossless compression method, we have applied modified scanning direction based on the Hilbert curve, which is a kind of space fill ins curve. We have substituted the traditional raster scanning by Hilbert curve direction scanning. Using this method, we have studied enhancement of compression efficiency for medical images.

  • EWMA(exponentially weighted moving average) charts and CUSUM(cumulative sum) charts are very effective to detect small shifts in the process mean. These charts have some control-chart parameters that allow the charts and be tuned and be more sensitive to certain shifts. The EWMA chart requires users to specify the value of a smoothing parameter, which can also be designed for the size of the mean shift. However, the size of the mean shift that occurs in applications is usually unknown and EWMA charts can perform poorly when the actual size of the mean shift is significantly different from the assumed size. In this paper, we propose the design procedure to find the optimal smoothing parameter of the EWMA chart when the size of the mean shift is unknown.

  • It is common to use CUSUM charts for detecting small level shifts in processes control, in which reference value(k) and decision interval(h) are the design parameters to be determined. To control process with autocorrelation, CUSUM charts could be applied to residuals obtained from fitting ARIMA models. However, constant level shifts in processes lead to varying mean shifts in residual processes and thus standard CUSUM charts may need to be modified. In this paper, we study the performance of CUSUM charts with various design parameters applied to autocorrelated processes, especially focussing on ARMA(1,1) models, and propose how they can be determined to get better performance in terms of the average run length.

  • In this paper, a new approach is proposed for the efficient generation of computer-generated holograms (CGHs) using the spatially redundant data on a 3D object and the novel look-up table (N-LUT) method. First, the pre-calculated N-point principle fringe patterns (PFPs) were calculated using the 1-point PFP of the N-LUT. Second, spatially redundant data on a 3D object were extracted and re-grouped into the N-point redundancy map using the run-length encoding (RLE) method. Then CGH patterns were generated using the spatial redundancy map and the N-LUT method. Finally, the generated hologram patterns were reconstructed. In this approach, the object points that were involved in the calculation of the CGH patterns were dramatically reduced, due to which the computational speed was increased. Some experiments with a test 3D object were carried out and the results were compared with those of conventional methods.

  • In this paper, we present a system which enables a real-time measurement of the number and also the body length of the fry (baby fish) using a line image sensor. Here, we consider a situation that fry are transported from a pond to another, pond through a pipe. At one position of the pipe a transparent rectanglar channel is mounted. The images of the fry, which run through this rectanglar channel, are detected by a line image sensor. The image signals are digitized to binary ones and the contour of the fry are detected. After that, a real-time image analysis is executed with a digital signal processor. Labeling program analyses the connection of every pixel. The results are transfered to a personal computer and displayed on the online monitor graphically.

  • A structure gauge assessment is needed to ensure that a railway vehicle can run safely along a length of track without coming unacceptably close to lineside structures or equipment, or to vehicles running on adjacent tracks. This apparently straightforward question is in reality very complicated. The amount of space required for the safe passage of a railway vehicle is significantly greater than its static body profile for a number of reasons as follows: as the vehicle runs along the track, the track input excites the vehicle and it moves on its suspension. On curved track its geometric position leads to curve overthrows. A number of different approaches have been used to answer this question and some are described and specially applied to urban train by computer simulation in this paper. The program used for calculating the kinematic and swept envelope is the VAMPIRE made in U.K.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time implementation of the MPEG-1 layer III and MPEG-2 layer III LSF audio decoding system based on OAK DSP Core. In order to solve the problem of resolution, the system has been used floating-point operation and double precision in dequantization module. The size of ROM is reduced by using the Run-length algorithm of reordered index. The subband synthesis filter module is optimized to have low computational complexity in terms of the size of ROM or RAM. To construct a efficient system, we used both the DSP Core and Parser-Huffman decoder which is implemented with VHDL.

  • Articulated vehicles which have a pivoting joint allowing the vehicle to rotate more easily are difficult to turn the curves because of their long length. In order to review operational safety, turning characteristics related to geometric design should be investigated when articulated vehicles run on the road which can be interfered with other vehicles. The vehicles to review the turning characteristics are the normal articulated bus in Seoul with FWS(front wheel steering) and new bimodal tram with AWS(all wheel steering). Steering characteristics and geometric design were investigated such as turning radius, offtracking, swept path width and swingout. The results were reviewed with respect to the standards of vehicle safety and road design.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of four control charts for real-time monitoring of the continuous flow processes. Control charts for both uncorrelated data and correlated data are designed using the Kalman filtering techinque. The relative performance between the designed control charts and traditional control charts is evaluated in terms of the Average Run Length(ARL). Results show that the Adaptive EWMA control charts designed for uncorrelated data has better performance when process mean is shifted, while the residual control charts for correlated data has better performance when process is in control.

  • This study is concerned with design of EWMA control charts for counted data. Control charts for the fraction defective and the number of defects are designed. Performance analysis is accomplished for validity of the designed EWMA control charts. Average run length(ARL) is adopted as a criterion for comparison. Simulation results show that the designed EWMA control charts have shorter ARL than pn, p and c control charts when the fraction nonconforming or the average defect number are shifted. This means that the designed control charts can detect the out of -control state of the process more fastly than the traditional control charts.
