Synthesis and Evaluation of Ir/TiO2 OER catalyst for PEM water electrolysis (수전해용 Ir/TiO2 산소 발생 촉매의 제조 및 성능 평가)

  • In this research, the Ir supported $TiO_2$ (P25) catalyst was prepared by precipitation method for oxygen evolution reaction. The $Ir/TiO_2$ catalyst was synthesised by reduction reaction using reducing agent. Physiochemical characterizations of synthesized $Ir/TiO_2$ catalyst was studied by means of SEM, EDS mapping, TEM and XRD. The Electrochemical characterizations were tested by using the technique of CV and LSV by RDE and Potentiostat. Physicochemical properties were characterized with XRD where Iridium metal morphology and Ir(111) and Ir(222) peaks were founded. $Ir0.2Ru0.8O_2$ exhibited higher OER activity than $Ir0.5Ru0.5O_2$ followed by $Ir/TiO_2$ and $IrO_2$.

  • Fabrication and oxidants formation of 1 and 2 component metal oxide electrode, which is known to be so effective to destruct non-biodegradable organics in wastewater, were studied. Five electrode materials (Ru, Pt, Sn, Sb and Gd) were used for the 1 and 2 component electrode. The metal oxide electrode was prepared by coating the electrode material on the surface of the titanium mesh and then thermal oxidation at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The removed RhB per 2 min and unit W for one component electrode decreased in the following sequences: Ru/Ti>Sb/Ti>Pt/Ti>Gd/Ti>Sn/Ti. The concentration of oxidants generated in 1 and 2 component electrodes was in the order of: $ClO_2$> free Cl>$H_2O_2>O_3$. OH radical was not generated from in entire one and two component electrodes. RhB degradation rate and generated oxidants of the Ru-Sn=9:1 electrode was higher than that of the two component electrode. The exact relationship between the removal of RhB and the generated oxidants concentration was not obvious. However, it was assumed that electrode with high RhB decolorization had high oxidant concentration.

  • Zeolites and microporouos materials continue to attract attention as novel hosts for photochemical reactions. Zeolities are attractive because of their ability to selectivity exchange and incorporate species within the void spaces and interconnecting channels, providing a spatial arrangement of molecules. Our research has primarily focused on intrazeolitic electron transfer from excited Ru(bpy)32+ in supercages of zeolite Y to a series of bipyridinium ions. In the Ru(bpy)32+ viologen-zeolite Y samples, the slowing of the back electron transfer from the bipyridinium radical cation to Ru(bpy)32+ allows for charge propagation via self exchange between diquat molecules. This provides an opportunity for permanent charge separation. When the migrating charge on the diquat radical within the zeolite reaches the surface, it can be transferred to a neutral viologen (PVS) in solution, resulting in permanent charge separation. The advantage of long-lived charge separation can be exploited for useful chemistry if suitable catablysts can be assembled on the zeolities. We have studied Ru(bpy)2 as water oxdiation catalysts. We have demonstrated that synthesis of RuO2 fibers on a zeolite via thermal decomposition of Ru3(CO)12 leads to the most active water decomposition catalyst reported to date. Because of the extensive interest of photochemical water reduction to H2, much is known about catalytic systems usin gone electron catalyst, and even more importantly, that no reaction of viologen occurred with H2 over this catalyst. The present challenge is to incorporate all these elements of the system into an architecture and we are examining zeolite membranes for this purpose.

Charge-discharge Characteristics of $TiO_2$-Activated Carbon Composite Electrode using Electrospinning (전기방사법으로부터 제조된 $TiO_2$ 섬유 복합전극의 충방전 특성)

  • Electrical double-layer capacitor (EDLC) is an electrochemical energy storage device in which electric charges only accumulated by a pure electrostatic attraction force are stored on the electrolyte-electrode interface in a form of double layer and separated by the electrolyte. The composite was prepared by mixing nanosize $TiO_2$ and activated carbon through a means of ultrasonic vibration in ethanol solution for 30 min in various mass ratios of $AC:TiO_2$ to form activated carbone-semiconducting oxide composites. Either 1.0 M $LiClO_4/EC-DEC$ or $Et_4NBF_4$/EC-DEC was used as the electrolyte. It was found that with modification of $TiO_2$, the specific capacitance of activated carbon measured at $1mA/cm^2$ was increased from 40 to 50 F/g. This method is unique in comparison the conventional method because it uses semiconducting TiO2 other than electrochemically active materials such as $RuO_2$. The increase in specific capacitance could be attributed to the decrease in electric polarization, caused by the introduction of $RuO_2$.

Ferroelectric Properties of Bi4Ti3O12 Thin Films Deposited on Si and SrTiO3 Substrates According to Crystal Structure and Orientation (Si 및 SrTiO3 기판 위에 증착된 Bi4Ti3O12 박막의 결정구조 및 배향에 따른 강유전 특성)

  • Ferroelectric $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ films were deposited on $SrTiO_3(100)$ and Si(100) substrate by using conductive $SrRuO_3$ films as underlayer, and their ferroelectric and electrical properties were investigated depending on crystal structure and orientation. C-axis oriented $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ films were grown on well lattice-matched pseudo-cubic $SrRuO_3$ films deposited on $SrTiO_3(100)$ substrate, while random-oriented polycrystalline $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ films were grown on $SrRuO_3$ films deposited on Si(100) substrate. The random-oriented polycrystalline film showed a good ferroelectric hysteresis property with remanent polarization ($P_r$) of $9.4{\mu}C/cm^2$ and coercive field ($E_c$) of 84.9 kV/cm, while the c-axis oriented film showed $P_r=0.64{\mu}C/cm^2$ and $E_c=47kV/cm$ in polarizaion vs electric field curve. The c-axis oriented $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ film showed a dielectric constant of about 150 and lower thickness dependence in dielectric constant compared to the random-oriented film. Furthermore, the c-axis oriented $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ film showed leakage current lower than that of the polycrystalline film. The difference of ferroelectric properties in two films was explained from the viewpoint of depolarization effect due to orientation of spontaneous polarization and layered crystal structure of bismuth-base ferroelectric oxide.

Electrical Properties of SrRuO3 Thin Films with Varying c-axis Lattice Constant

  • We studied the effect of the variation of the lattice constant on the electrical properties of $SrRuO_3$ thin films. In order to obtain films with different volumes, we varied the substrate temperature and oxygen pressure during the growth of the films on $SrTiO_3$ (001) substrates. The films were grown using a pulsed laser deposition method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the grown films at low temperature and low oxygen pressure indicated the elongation of the c-axis lattice constant compared to that of the films grown at a higher temperature and higher oxygen pressure. The in-plane strain states are maintained for all of the films, implying the expansion of the unit-cell volume by the oxygen vacancies. The variation of the electrical resistance reflects the temperature dependence of the resistivity of the metal, with a ferromagnetic transition temperature inferred form the cusp of the curve being observed in the range from 110 K to 150 K. As the c-axis lattice constant decreases, the transition temperature linearly increases.

Gas Sensing Characteristics of Catalyst-added $In_2O_3$ Thick Film for Detecting $NO_x$ of High Concentration (고농도 $NO_x$ 감지용 $In_2O_3$ 후막가스센서의 Al, Ru 및 $SnO_2$ 첨가에 의한 특성 향상)

  • In2O3 thick film gas sensor for detecting NOx gas of high concentration was fabricated by a screen printing technique. This work focussed on investigation of the change of sensitivity to NOx gas with firing temperatures of sensing layer and on improvement of the sensitivity by adding catalysts such as Al,. Ru, and SnO2 The cross sensitivites of sensor to CO, H2, CH4 and i-C4H10 gases were also examined under NO2 gas concentration of 200ppm Pure In2O3 gas sensor prepared at a firing temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$ showed a maximum sensitivity to NOx gas at the operating temperature of 40$0^{\circ}C$ Al(0.004 wt%)-In2O3 sensor largely improved the sensitivities to both NO2 and NO gas and showed a superior selectivity compared with other gas sensors.

Synthesis and Application of New Ru(II) Complexes for Dye-Sensitized Nanocrystalline TiO2 Solar Cells

  • To develop photo-sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) used in harvesting sunlight and transferring solar energy into electricity, we synthesize novel Ru(II) polypyridyl dyes and describe their characterization. We also investigate the photo-electrochemical properties of DSCs using these sensitizers. New dyes contain chromophore unit of dafo (4,5-diazafluoren-9-one) or phen-dione (1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione) instead of the nonchromophoric donor unit of thiocyanato ligand in cis-[RuII(dcbpy)2(NCS)2] (dcbpy = 4,4'-dicarboxy- 2,2'-bipyridine) coded as N3 dye. For example, the photovoltaic data of DSCs using [RuII(dcbpy)2(dafo)](CN)2 as a sensitizer show 6.85 mA/cm2, 0.70 V, 0.58 and 2.82% in short-circuit current (Jsc ), open-circuit voltage (Voc), fill factor (FF) and power conversion efficiency (Eff), which can be compared with those of 7.90 mA/ cm2, 0.70 V, 0.53 and 3.03% for N3 dye. With the same chelating ligand directly bonded to the Ru metal in the complex, the CN ligand increases the Jsc value by double, compared to the SCN ligand. The extra binding ability in these new dyes makes them more resistant against ligand loss and photo-induced isomerization within octahedral geometry.

전이금속 (Ru$^{3+}$, Ni$^{2+}$, Cu$^{2+}$, Pd$^{2+}$)-Polyaza(N$_4$) 착물의 합성과 올레핀 산화반응에 대한 촉매적 활성

  • The Ru(Ⅲ), Ni(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), and Pd(Ⅱ) complexes of N$_4$-polydentate ligands(meso-Me$_6$-[14]-ane, rac-Me$_6$-[14]-ane, and cyclam) have been prepared and their catalytic activity and selectivity in the oxidation of olefins in the presence of oxidant such as NaOCl, H$_2$O$_2$, t-BuOOH, and PhIO studied. The oxidations of cyclohexene, 1-hexene, cyclooctene, 1-octene, and styrene as substrates have been investigated gas chromatographically. The Ru(Ⅲ)-N$_4$ complexes showed high selectivity for epoxide in the catalyzed oxidation of olefins with NaOCl. The catalytic activities of Ru(Ⅲ)-N$_4$ complexes were discussed in terms of the flexibility of N$_4$-polydentate ligands, the Ru(Ⅲ)-Cl bond interaction and the steric effect of oxidants. The oxidation of 1-octene using PhIO as oxidant was carried out to verify. The Pd(Ⅱ) complex turned out to be more active catalyst than the Ni(Ⅱ) complexes.
