Compressibility behaviour of peat reinforced with precast stabilized peat columns and FEM analysis

  • Researches have been done to discover ways to strengthen peat soil deposits. In this model study, fibrous peat that is the most compressible types of peat has been reinforced with precast peat columns stabilized with ordinary Portland cement and polypropylene fibres. Rowe cell consolidation tests as well as plate load tests (PLTs) were conducted on various types of test samples to evaluate the strength and deformation of untreated peat and peat reinforced by various types of columns. PLTs were conducted in a specially designed and fabricated circular steel test tank. The compression index ($C_c$) and recompression index ($C_r$) of fibrous peat samples reduced considerably upon use of precast columns. Also, PLT results confirmed the results obtained from Rowe cell tests. Use of polypropylene fibres added to cement further decreased ($C_c$) and ($C_r$) and increased load bearing capacity of untreated peat. Finite element method (FEM) using Plaxis 3D was carried out to evaluate the stress distributions along various types of tested samples and also, to compare the deformations obtained from FEM analysis with the actual maximum deformations found from PLTs. FEM results indicate that most of the induced stresses are taken on the upper portion of tested samples and reach their maximum values below the loading plate. Also, a close agreement was found between actual deformation values obtained from PLTs and values resulted from FEM analysis for various types of tested samples.

연약지반상에 축조된 농업용저수지의 과잉공극수압 예측과 압밀계수의 비교 (Comparison of Coefficient of Consolidation and Prediction of Excess Pore Water Pressure of Agricultural Reservoir under Embankment on Soft Ground)

  • This study was carried out to comparison of coefficient of consolidation and the prediction of excess pore water pressure in agricultural reservoir on soft clay ground. For the purpose of verification of the proposed equation, laboratory model tests and field tests were performed and excess pore water pressure was compared to those predicted with the Terzaghi's method. The predicted excess pore water pressure according to ponding was very applicable to practice because it was close to the observed data. Also, for the comparison of coefficient of consolidation, the oedometer, constant rate of strain (CRS), and Rowe cell tests were performed. The coefficient of consolidation at the Rowe cell and CRS tests showed a greate increase than in the oedometer test. The ratio of the vertical and horizontal coefficient of consolidation showed a large difference according to various tests method and mixing ratio. Therefore, it is recommended that careful attention should be paid to predicting the required consolidation period in agricultural reservoir.

피에조콘 소산시험을 통한 해성연악지반의 압밀특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Consolidation Characteristics of Soft Marine Deposit by Piezocone Dissipation Test)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 해성퇴적 연약지반의 압밀특성을 실험적으로 규명하기 위하여 현장에서의 픽에조콘을 이용한 간극수압소산시험을 수행하고 동일한 위치와 심도에서 채취한 비교란시료를 이용하여 실내에서 Howe cell 압밀시험을 포함한 역학시험과 물성시험을 수행하였다. 이를 근거로 howe cell 압밀시험으로부터 구한 수평압밀계수$(c_r)$와 피에조콘 소산시험으로부터 구한 압밀도 50%에 해당하는 소산시간$(t_{50})$의 관계를 회귀분석을 통하여 실험식을 제안하였으며 이 실험식과 기존의 여러 학자들에 의해 제안된 이론해와의 관계를 비교하였다. 이에 의하면 실린더형 공동팽창이론에 근거한 Torstensson(1977)의 이론해와 변형률경로법에 근거한 Houlsby와 Teh(1988)의 이론해에 비교적 유사한 경향을 보이는 것으로 나타났다

평면 변형률 압축상태에서의 모래의 미소 변형률 측정 (Small Strain Measurements of Sands in Plane Strain Compression)

  • 본 연구는 미소 변형률범위($10^{-5}$이하)에서 파괴상태까지의 변형률을 정밀하게, 그리고 연속적 으로 구하기 위해 필요한 미소 변위 측정시스템을 보고하고,이 측정 시스템을 이용하여 평면 변 형률 상태에서의 모래의 미소거동을 자세히 연구하였다. 그 결과, Rowe의 응력-다이러턴시 관계는 전단변형률 $10^{-5}$이하의 극히 미소한 변형률 수준에서 파괴상태까지 성립하였다. 그러나, R=K.D에서 K값은모래의 종류에 따라달랐다. 또, 과압밀비가 탄성영역상태에서의 포아송비(${\nu}_{psc}^e$) 및 Rowe의 응력-다이러턴시 관계에 미치는 영향 은 거의 없다는 것을 알았다.

샌드심이 존재하는 점토에 Rowe Cell를 이용한 일정변형률 압밀시험 (Constant Rate of Strain Consolidation Test with Rowe Cell on the Clay with Sand Seam)

  • 샌드심(Sand seam)은 점성토 지층속에 모래층이 층상으로 존재하는 것으로 점토가 침강 퇴적하는 과정중에 하천의 범람이나 사면활동 등에 의하여 모래 성분이 유입되어 생성된 것으로 알려져 있다. 연약지반내에 샌드심이 존재할 경우 일방향 배수에서 양방향 배수가 되기 때문에 압밀시간이 단축이 가능하다 판단되어지나, 샌드심에 대해 연구가 국내외적으로 미진하여 연약지반개량 설계 시 이를 설계에 제대로 반영 못하는 실정이다. 본 연구는 샌드심에 대한 기초연구로 얇은 모래층(샌드심)이 존재하는 점토 시료에 대해 표준압밀시험과 Rowe cell을 이용한 일정변형률시험을 수행하였다. 시험을 위해 냉동법을 이용한 특별히 고안된 샌드심 제작방법을 제시하였다. 시험 결과 샌드심이 점토지반에 존재 시 압밀계수에 영향을 줌을 알 수 있었다. 샌드심의 높이가 시료높이의 0.05배 이상이면 샌드심이 충분한 배수층 역할을 하여 간극수의 배수방향이 수평방향뿐만 아니라 수직배수가 함께 진행되어 압밀이 빠르게 진행되는 것으로 나타났다.

고함수비를 가진 준설토의 압밀특성 (Consolidation Characteristics of Dredged Soil with High Water Content)

  • Dredged soil from sea has much higher water content than liquid limit of clay and even if small loads apply, it will suffer a great settlement. Therefore it is very difficult to perform a consolidation test with general consolidation apparatus because of high water content. In this study Rowe Cell Apparatus consolidation tests have been performed with 1 remolding clay of water content 56% and 4 slurry clays of a water content of 100%, 120%, 133% and 150%. From the test results the consolidation characteristics such as compression index, secondary compression index and consolidation coefficient have been investigated with a variation of water content of dredged soil. The equations to get consolidation constants such as a compression index, a consolidation coefficient have been proposed with the field water content.

압밀시험의 교란정도 추정 (Evaluation of the Degree of Disturbance on Oedometer Test)

  • Parameters that represent the characteristic of consolidation have been determined by the oedometer tests. They are varied by the process of sampling and transportation, accuracy of apparatus, process of sample trimming and the skill of engineers. Also, it is difficult to grasp what factor exert a influence on the parameters. In this study, Slurry Rowe Cell Tests were peformed to evaluate the disturbance. Using the plot of e - log p which obtained from Rowe Cell test results, we compared the swelling indexes at the stress relief and the last loading stage. With that result, we tried to presume the disturbance of the 330 oedometer tests. The plot of compression-swelling index at the stress relief considerably scattered but at the last step of load shows a correlations between them. And the plot of depth-p$\sub$c/ shows a correlation with the different swelling indexes, but not in the LL-p$\sub$c/. Consequently, it is considered that the disturbance of the consolidation tests can be presumed by the comparison of the difference of swelling index.

앵커로 지지(支持)된 널말뚝의 유연성(柔軟性)에 관한 연구(研究) (A Study on the Flexibility of Anchored Sheet Piles)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 앵커로 지지(支持)된 유연(柔軟)한 널말뚝에 대한 실험연구(實驗硏究)로서, 굴착(掘鑿) 깊이에 따른 거동(擧動)을 확인한 것이다. 유연성(柔軟性)으로 인한 벽(壁)의 변위(變位)와 앵커 하중(荷重)에 따라 휨모멘트가 감소(減少)함을 알 수 있었고, Rowe의 모멘트 감소곡선(減少曲線)이 합리적(合理的)임을 확인하였다. 앵커로 지지(支持)된 널말뚝의 변위(變位)와 지반침하(地盤沈下)는 앵커 하중(荷重)과 벽(壁)의 유연성(柔軟性)의 선택에 의해서 감소(減少)시킬 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

Significance of nonlinear permeability in the coupled-numerical analysis of tunnelling

  • The inflow rate is of interest in the design of underground structures such as tunnels and buried pipes below the groundwater table. Soil permeability governing the inflow rate significantly affects the hydro-geological behavior of soils but is difficult to estimate due to its wide range of distribution, nonlinearity and anisotropy. Volume changes induced by stress can cause nonlinear stress-strain behavior, resulting in corresponding permeability changes. In this paper, the nonlinearity and anisotropy of permeability are investigated by conducting Rowe cell tests, and a nonlinear permeability model considering anisotropy was proposed. Model modification and parameter evaluation for field application were also addressed. Significance of nonlinear permeability was illustrated by carrying out numerical analysis of a tunnel. It is highlighted that the effect of nonlinear permeability is significant in soils of which volume change is considerable, and particularly appears in the short-term flow behavior.
