In this paper, we propose novel disaggregated memory module (dMM) architecture and memory access control schemes to solve the collision and contention problems of memory disaggregation, reducing the average memory access time to less than 1 ㎲. In the schemes, the distributed scheduler in each dMM determines the order of memory read/write access based on delay-sensitive priority requests in the disaggregated memory access frame (dMAF). We used the memory-intensive first (MIF) algorithm and priority-based MIF (p-MIF) algorithm that prioritize delay-sensitive and/or memory-intensive (MI) traffic over CPU-intensive (CI) traffic. We evaluated the performance of the proposed schemes through simulation using OPNET and hardware implementation. Our results showed that when the offered load was below 0.7 and the payload of dMAF was 256 bytes, the average round trip time (RTT) was the lowest, ~0.676 ㎲. The dMM scheduling algorithms, MIF and p-MIF, achieved delay less than 1 ㎲ for all MI traffic with less than 10% of transmission overhead.

One of the seminal operation parameters of AODV is the node-to-node travel time of data, which is currently set to fixed value of 40 ms in the RFC3561 and widely used to compute other parameters such as the expected round-trip time of the connection setup message, etc. We have naturally thought the network performance could be improved by dynamically varying the node-to-node travel time with respect to the traffic condition in the networt rather than using the fixed value, which motivates this work. To this end, we apply the idea of using timestamp; every node places the current time in the message before sending it out, and the receiver node computes the node travel time based on the moving average algorithm by considering not only the current value but also the previous ones in an accumulated and exponentially decreasing fashion with time. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in respect of the number of RREQ messages generated, throughput, and delay as a function of traffic load and node mobility, and compare the result with the original AODV scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme presents noticeable performance improvements, expecially under the condition of high node mobility and high traffic load.

A Study on the ARQ scheme of data error control is important for more reliable information transmission. Since performance difference is large by the long transmission delay time in satellite communication, the performances of SR ARQ and conventional type-I hybrid ARQ with fixed code rate are investigated by using the parameters of packet length, channel capacity, BER, and transmission delay time especially. BCH code is used in type-I hybrid ARQ for FEC method. This paper presents the throughput analyses according to such various parameters as BCH code rate, window size, data rate and round-trip delay time. Especially we derive a performance equation of type-I hybrid ARQ with the factor of the transmission delay time using the equation of SAW ARQ. Also, the performance of type-I hybrid ARQ specially considering transmission delay time is analyzed through numerical analysis and computer simulation so we can get a important characteristics variation.
In this paper, we propose a buffer management scheme suitable for interactive multimedia services. We consider a typical delay optimization environment so that receiver buffer lengths vary according to the round trip time estimation. In this environment, we propose an optimization technique for minimizing the loss of information that may occur when a reduced buffer length forces I/P/B frames in the buffer to drop. We modeled our problem as a Knapsack Problem for which we used dynamic programing in order to find an approximate solution. The proposed technique is compared with the existing buffer management techniques. Through simulation studies, we found that our approach could increase PSNR, which is important to video quality.

STSAT-2 has an on-board satellite retroreflector array for precise orbit determination. Satellite retroreflector array reflects photon emitted from laser and uses to determine precisely the distance from ground station to satellite by the round-trip travel time of photon. The retroreflector array of protoflight model has been developed and verified through environmental tests. This paper describes the protoflight model of retroreflector array and reports environmental test results. The environmental tests of protoflight model retroreflector array were performed successfully without damage of corner cube prism occurred in engineering model development.
Satellite laser ranging (SLR) system which measures the round trip time of laser to satellites is one of the important techniques in space geodesy. SLR system gives a powerful tool to determine the precise orbit of satellites, the center of mass of the Earth, and etc because it provides instantaneous range measurements of millimeter level precision. China Transportable Ranging Observation System (TROS) was built in 1999 and other four SLR stations were founded in China. TROS has been upgraded to the new electronic system capable of KHz ranging since last year, and succeeded in KHz SLR technology. TROS has been operated in KASI headquarter for research of space geodesy since August 2008, which will be operated for 12 months by August 2009. Now ISCEA and KASI keep strong relationship in SLR field.

The differentiated services(DiffServ) architecture provides packet level service differentiation through the simple and predefined Per-Hop Behaviors(PHBs). The Assured Forwarding(AF) PHB proposed as the assured services uses the RED-in/out(RIO) approach to ensusre the expected capacity specified by the service profile. However, the AF PHB fails to give good QoS and fairness to the TCP flows. This is because OUT(out- of-profile) packet droppings at the RIO buffer are unfair and sporadic during only network congestion while the TCP's congestion control algorithm works with a different round trip time(RTT). In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Regulating Drop(ARD) marker, as a novel dropping strategy at the ingressive edge router, to improve TCP fairness in assured services without a decrease in the link utilization. To drop packets pertinently, the ARD marker adaptively changes a Temporary Permitted Rate(TPR) for aggregate TCP flows. To reduce the excessive use of greedy TCP flows by notifying droppings of their IN packets constantly to them without a decrease in the link utilization, according to the TPR, the ARD marker performs random early fair remarking and dropping of their excessive IN packets at the aggregate flow level. Thus, the throughput of a TCP flow no more depends on only the sporadic and unfair OUT packet droppings at the RIO buffer in the core router. Then, the ARD marker regulates the packet transmission rate of each TCP flow to the contract rate by increasing TCP fairness, without a decrease in the link utilization.
The differentiated services (DiffServ) is proposed to provide packet level service differentiations in a scalable manner. To provide an end-to-end service differentiation to users having a connection over multiple domains, as well as a flow marker, an intermediate marker is necessary at the edge routers, and it should not be operated at a flow level due to a scalability problem. Due to this operation requirement, the intermediate marker has a fairness problem among the transmission control protocol (TCP) flows since TCP flows have intrinsically unfair throughputs due to the TCP's congestion control algorithm. Moreover, it is very difficult to resolve this problem without individual flow state information such as round trip time (RTT) and sending rate of each flow. In this paper, to resolve this TCP fairness problem of an intermediate marker, we propose a fair scalable marker (FSM) as an intermediate marker which works with a source flow three color marker (sf-TCM) operating as a host source marker. The proposed fair scalable marker improves the fairness among the TCP flows with different RTTs without per-flow management. Through the simulations, we show that the FSM can improve TCP fairness as well as link utilization in multiple domain DiffServ networks.
The TFRC is a congestion control mechanism which supports the requirements of video streaming applications and controls its sending rate by using the information such as loss event rate and RTT (round-trip time). However, TFRC has a performance degradation in wireless networks because it performs congestion control by judging all the losses occurred in wireless network as a congestion signal. In this paper, we propose new loss discrimination mechanism which is using ECN in order to solve the performance degradation of TFRC. Through the results of simulation, we proved that the proposed mechanism can improve the performance of TFRC.

To resist the relay attacks in RFID system, it is commonly used RFID distance bounding protocols using the round trip time measurement for 1 bit challenge and response between a reader and a tag. If the success probability of relay attacks for the 1 bit challenge and response can be reduced in these protocols, it is possible to make an efficient distance bounding protocol. In this paper, we propose an efficient RFID distance bounding protocol based on 2 bit challenge and response which is modified the RFID distance bounding protocol proposed by Hancke and Khun based on 1 bit challenge and response. The success probability of relay attack for the proposed protocol is (7/16)n for the n times of challenge and response, which is much lower than (3/4)n given by Hancke and Khun's protocol.
