  • The quality and productivity in machining automobile parts are influenced by various factors such as cutting conditions, vibration, and used tool. To improve the quality and productivity of the automobile parts(torsion beam), lots of research on the evaluation of tool life and control of surface roughness has been required. Therefore, the width of flank wear, cutting force, and surface roughness are monitored to analyse the characteristics of tool wear and surface roughness at different tools. This experimental investigation is mainly focused on the characteristics of the tool wear, tool life and surface roughness in multi-insert milling of automobile parts(torsion beam) by using uncoated tungsten carbide tool(WC), TiN coated tool, and cermet tool.

  • Generally, a great deal of attention is given to the maintenance of consistent surface roughness. Therefore one of the major goals of research in this area has been the development of models which can predict the surface roughness obtainable on a machined metal part over the simultaneous variation of cutting condition. A comparison is also made between the theoretical and actual values of surface roughness to calculate the overall variance in the developed models, Mathematical models developed from the experimental data in the course of this work can be employed to control the cutting conditions in order to achieve the desired surface roughness and deep quality.

  • Recently, construction of high-rise buildings have been increased all around the world, and their foundation are designed to carry heavy loads form superstructures. For this reason, the use of drilled shafts have been increased, and the proper understanding of drilled shafts have been issued, especially for socket roughness and vertical offsets. In this study, the BKS-LRPS using laser sensor was developed for the measurement of socket roughness and vertical offsets for the first time in Korea. The BKS-LRPS was applied for measuring of socket roughness and also vertical offsets at the specific field sites. Based on this study, BKS-LRPS was successfully applied for measurement of socket roughness and vertical offsets the in the fields, and more appropriate quality control for the vertical offsets have to be needed.

  • As a life cycle of product bas shortend, Rapid prototypiug has come into the spotlight to shortened the time of producint a prototype. But It followed in laminated directivity and of the prototype production which is decided the interference which Beccuase of invisible rough surface, some inferences have occured during an assembly hour. Consequently, This study on rapid prototyping has parameter to determine surface roughness and surface form precision of total shape. In order to improve Surface form precision, it can control parameters which are Laminate Height, Layer Hatch Overcue, Fill Cure Depth. In addition, we found the parameter which have a deep effect on surface roughness among various parameters, and then, tried to reduce the interference that can be occurred by surface roughness during assembly.

  • This paper investigates the correlation between surface roughness and gloss of aluminium sheet painted waterborne paint. One customer criterion of automotive quality is the as-painted appearance of the final products. Especially, the current emphasis on control of surface roughness of sanded aluminium sheet has been prompted by the automotive industry's concern with the as-painted appearance. because the influence of such characteristics on paintability, and painted appearance is important in defining outer panel requirements for automobile. This paper is dedicated primarily to the issue of painted appearance and reviews for improvement of roughness. The conclusions are obtained as follows ; 1) Painted aluminium sheet appearance is strongly affected by surface roughness of base-metal and influenced by sand paper and sanding method. 2) The painted appearance of aluminium sheets was determined and related to surface roughness parameters, combination of sand paper.

  • This study aims to evaluate the color stability and surface roughness of the single-shade composite resin after finishing and polishing for primary molars. A single-shade composite resin (OM, OMNICHROMA) and two multi-shade composite resins (FT, FiltekTM Z350XT; ES, ESTELITE® SIGMA QUICK) were included. The specimens were divided into three subgroups using different polishing methods: control, Sof-Lex XT, and Sof-Lex Diamond. For color stability tests, cavities were prepared on extracted primary second molars and restored with experimental composite resins. Each specimen was immersed in the coffee solution for 48 hours. The color difference of each specimen was calculated. For surface roughness tests, cylindrical specimens were crafted with experimental composite resins. Surface roughness was analyzed using an atomic force microscope and a scanning electron microscope. In the color stability tests, FT demonstrated a significantly lower ΔEab than ES among the control groups, but no significant differences were observed between the ΔEab values of OM and FT or OM and ES. Additionally, no significant differences were found between the Sof-Lex XT and Sof-Lex Diamond subgroups in the three composite groups. Moreover, no significant differences in the surface roughness were found between the three composite groups, regardless of the polishing methods. The single-shade composite resin demonstrated comparable color stability and surface roughness to that of the multi-shade composite resins regardless of the polishing methods used in restoring primary molars. The single-shade composite resin is expected to be applicable in clinical pediatric dentistry reducing chair time due to the easy shade matching procedures.

  • This paper details a new ultra-precise turning method for increasing surface quality, "Multi Point B Axis Control Method." Machined surface error is minimized by the compensation machining process, but the process leaves residual chip marks and surface roughness. This phenomenon is unavoidable in the diamond turning process using existing machining methods. However, Multi Point B axis control uses a small angle (< $1^{\circ}$) for the unused diamond edge for generation of ultra-fine surfaces; no machining chipping occurs. It is achieved by compensated surface profiling via alignment of the tool radial center on the center of the B axis rotation table. Experimental results show that a diamond turned surface using the Multi Point B axis control method achieved P-V $0.1{\mu}m$ and Ra 1.1nm and these ultra-fine surface qualities are reproducible.

  • The surface roughness in centerless grinding is mainly affected by the many process parameters. For improving the surface roughness, the control of grinding parameters is very important. This paper deals with the analysis of the process parameters such as height of renters, tilting angle of the regulating wheel with respect to grinding wheel, rotation speed of regulating wheel, which are developed based on design of experiments such as factorial design. The investigation can enhance the surface roughness of ferrule. Finally, we have verified improved results of the optimized conditions.

  • The dynamic characteristics of turning processes are complex, non-linear and time-varying. Consequently, the conventional techniques based on crisp mathematical model may not guarantee surface roughness regulation. This paper presents a fuzzy controller which can regulate surface roughness in milling process using end-mill under varying cutting condition. The fuzzy control rules are established from operator experience and expert knowledge about the process dynamics. regulation which increases productivity and tool life is achieved by adjusting feed-rate according to the variation of cutting conditions. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by cutting experiments in the converted CNC milling machine. The result of experiments show that the proposed fuzzy controller has a good surface roughness regulation capability in spite of the variation of cutting conditions.

  • The roughness models have developed to describe the grinding behaviour and predict the final quality of workpiece. The model forms of the plunge grinding process are generally established with initial and steady state model form in accordance with the accumulated metal removal. The steady state roughness model form are based on the grinding condition and specific parameters are used to show the influence of it according to the grinding process such as the equivalent chip thickness and accumulated metal removal. However, the models have been developed in past are not considered the effect of changing the grinding conditions in the same batch. In this paper, the roughness model form to consider the effect of changing grinding condition is proposed and the performance of proposed model is evaluated based on the experimental results.
