In this paper, the acoustic pressure of a helicopter rotor in hovering and low speed descent flight is predicted and compared with experimental data. Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation is used to predict the acoustic pressure. Two different wind tunnel test data are used to validate the predicted results. Boeing 360 model rotor test results are used for the low-frequency noise in hover, and HART II test results are employed for the mid-frequency noise, especially BVI noise, in low speed descent flight. A simple free-wake model as well as the state-of-the-art CFD/CSD coupling method are adopted to perform the analysis. Numerical results show good agreement against the measured data for both low-frequency and mid-frequency harmonic noise signal. The noise carpet results predicted using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) shows also reasonable correlation with the measured data.

The optimum design and the performance analysis software called POSEIDON for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) is developed by use of BEMT, which is the standard computational technique for prediction of power curves of wind turbines. The Prandtl's tip loss theory is adopted to consider the blade tip loss. The lift and the drag coefficient of S-809 airfoil are predicted via X-FOIL and the post stall characteristics of S-809 also are estimated by the Viterna's equations.$^{[13]}$ All the predicted aerodynamic characteristics are fairly well agreed with the wind tunnel test results. performed by Sommers in Delft university of technology. The rated power of the testing rotor is 20kW(FIL-20) at design conditions. The experimental aerodynamic parameters and the X-FOIL data are used for the power Prediction of the FIL-20 respectively The comparison results shows good agreement in power prediction.

This paper presents the result of the aeroelastic stability test of the small-scaled hingeless hub system with composite paddle blades in hover and forward flight conditions. Excitation tests of hingeless hub system installed in GSRTS(General Small-scale Rotor Test System) at KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) were carried out to get lead-lag damping ratio of blades with flexures as hub flexure. MBA(Moving Block Analysis) technique was used for the estimation of lead-lag damping ratio. First, blades with metal flexures, then with composite flexures of the same dynamic properties of rotor system as metal one were tested. Tests were done on the ground and in the wind tunnel according to the test conditions of hover and forward flight, respectively. Composite flexures were found to have better damping characteristics over metal ones in the non-rotating vibration test, and it was confirmed that the use of composite flexures would give observable improvement in aeroelastic stability compared to metal ones in all test conditions.

In this study, the evaluation of the aerodynamic characteristics of the NREL Phase VI Rotor System has been performed, for the 7 m/s upwind case using commercial FEA and CFD tools which are ANSYS Mechanical 12.1 and CFX 12.1. The initial operating conditions of the rotor blade include a $3^{\circ}$ tip pitch angle. A numerical simulation was carried out on only the rotor parts, excluding the tower structure based on the equivalent stiffness model, to consider the aeroelastic effect for the numerical simulation using the loosely coupled 2-way fluid-structure interaction method. The blade root bending moment was monitored in real time to obtain reasonable results. To verify the analysis results, the numerical simulation results were compared with the measurements in the form of the root bending moment and the pressure distributions of the NREL/NASA Ames wind tunnel test.

The aerodynamic analysis of helicopter rotor airfoils was performed to generate the basic data for selection and distribution of airfoils at the helicopter rotor blade preliminary design phase.10 airfoils were chosen among the existing rotor airfoils, and the tabulated aerodynamic coefficients which are proper for the aerodynamic analysis using blade element theory were generated. Considering analysis cost, the simple mathematical models were chosen before the wind tunnel test to generate the aerodynamic characteristic curves($C_{l},C_{m},C_{d}$) in full AoA range($-180^{o}\sim180^{o}$) including the reverse flow region. The essential data necessary to the generation of the complete curves were obtained by using the IBLM(Interactive Boundary Layer Method). The generated aerodynamic characteristic curves agree with experimental results qualitatively. Finally, the aerodynamic characteristics of all 10 airfoils were compared and classified according to their own lift or moment characteristics.

This paper presents the structural model verification process of whole wind turbine blade including blade model which proposed in Part1 paper. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available is used for the study. In the Part1 of this paper, the processes of structural model development and verification process of blade only are introduced. The whole wind turbine composed by blade, rotor, nacelle and tower. Even though NREL has reported the measured values, the material properties of blade and machinery parts are not clear but should be tested. Compared with the other parts, the tower which made by steel pipe is rather simple. Since it does not need any considerations. By the help of simple eigen-value analysis, the accuracy of structural stiffness and mass value of whole wind turbine system was verified by comparing with NREL's reported value. NREL has reported the natural frequency of blade, whole turbine, turbine without blade and tower only models. According to the comparative studies, the proposed material and mass properties are within acceptable range, but need to be discussing in future studies, because our material properties of blade does not match with NREL's measured values.

Performance analysis was performed for an autorotating rotor. For a given airspeed, shaft angle, and collective pitch, the steady state of autorotation was judged by using the transient simulation method(TSM), then the thrust, lift, and drag coefficient for that state were computed. Average thrust was calculated from the instantaneous thrusts, in which the TSM was used in blade thrust integration. The analysis method was applied to the model rotor that had been tested by wind tunnel. Some comparison between analysis and test was provided. Two types of two-dimensional airfoil aerodynamic data were utilized in analysis, and they were made by Navier-Stokes Solver in terms of Reynolds and Reynolds-Mach number. The quantitative difference of results using two data set was examined and compared.

In this paper, heat/mass transfer characteristics on a film cooled stationary rotor blade are investigated using the naphthalene sublimation method. A row-speed annular wind tunnel with a single annular turbine stage is used. Three rows of film cooling holes are machined on the leading edge of the test blade. Detailed heat/mass transfer distributions are measured with changing the blowing rate from 1.0 to 2.0. As the blowing ratio increases, overall heat/mass transfer increases and the lower peak formed on the pressure side were disappeared.
Comprehensive study on a centrifugal blower for air-purifier involving a few physical filters for percolation process has been accomplished for an optimal design of the air handling system. The filtering media causes a flow resistance for induced flows by a rotating impeller. The present methodology is to adopt PIV system for velocity measurements and wind tunnel connected with an anechoic chamber for total performance test of the blower. Trial prototypes for the blades of a rotor and casing are presented for satisfaction of both flow rate and noise level set by design objectives. Tapered blades with a special casing for a fan show good performance data. The results of velocity fields also explain the reason of improvements of the blower performance.

This paper describes the test carried out on an experimental study of fuselage drag and stability characteristics of a helicopter configuration and the test techniques developed for the testing and the lessons learned in the Agency for Defense Development Low Speed Wind Tunnel(ADD-LSWT). The main objective of this test is to determine the drag and stability characteristics of helicopter configurations according to the various configuration changes. The fuselage model with a highly modular structure is a representation of 1:8 scale of the external contour of the conceptual design helicopter configuration with rotating main rotor hub including blade stubs capable of rotating up to 500 rpm. The test results are compared with the available similar data and fair to good agreement is obtained.
