Three-dimensional Lagrangian fluid finite element is applied to seismic response analysis of an oil storage tank with a floating roof. The fluid element utilized in the present analysis is formulated based on the displacement finite element method considering only volumetric elasticity and its element stiffness matrix is derived by using one-point integration method in order to avoid volumetric locking. The method usually adds a rotational penalty stiffness to satisfy the irrotational condition for fluid motion and modifies element mass matrices through the projected mass method to suppress spurious hourglass-mode appeared in compensation for one-point integration. In the fluid element utilized in the present paper, a small hourglass stiffness is employed. The fluid and structure domains for the objective oil storage tank are modeled by eight-node solid elements and four-node shell elements, respectively, and the transient response of the floating roof structure or the free surface are evaluated by implicit direct time integration method. The results of seismic response analyses are compared with those by other method and the validation of the present analysis using three-dimensional Lagrangian fluid finite elements is shown.

The stress analyses of the 'U'-shaped multi-ply reinforced gimbal bellows under high pressure and rotational displacement loadings are performed at the room and cryogenic temperatures. The bellows are used for the Lox pipe line which connects the combustion chamber with the turbopump of a liquid rocket engine. The distributions of the stress, the strains and the contact pressures are obtained from the finite element analysis considering the geometric non-linearities of the contacts between the plies and the material one of the isotropic plasticity. Those are compared with the stress results from EJMA (Expansion Joint Manufacturing Association) standard. Also, the effects of the operating temperature and the reinforcing ring on the stresses are investigated.

In the study, the effect grinding condition on the workpiece arithmetical average roughness(Ra) to 10 steps leading to cutting each section with the spindle rotational speed 8000rpm and feed rate 150mm/min of grinding in GC(green silicon carbide) grinding processing after heat treatment and non heat treatment of SCM415 material. Also the following conclusions were obtained analysis of stress distribution displacement and finite elements method(FEM) on assemble parts with 3+2 axis simultaneous control through grinding and gave a load 11kg on ATC arm both sides gave a load of 11kg. For the centerline average roughness(Ra) in the heat and non-heat treatment work pieces, which were appeared the most favorable in the fifth section were $0.511{\mu}m$ and $0.514{\mu}m$, that were shown in the near the straight line section was the smallest deformation of curve. In addition, the bad surface roughness appeared on the path is too long by changing angle, the more inclined depth of cut, because the chip discharging is not smoothly.

The spindle system with a built-in motor can be used to simplify the structure of machine tools, to improve the machining flexibility of machine tools, and to perform the high speed machining. To improve the competition power of price to quality, spindle design is very important. Because it possesses over 10 percent of machine tool's price. The latest machine tools have rotational frequency and excellent about might and precision cutting. So it requires static and dynamic strength in the load aspect. In conclusion, the deformation of the spindle end have to extremely small displacement in static and dynamic load. In this study, On the assumption that the bearings that are supporting 24,000rpm high-speed spindle are selected in the most optimum condition, the natural frequency and deformation of the spindle end is obtained by FEM mode analysis. The Taguchi Method was used to draw optimized condition of bearing position and it's stiffness.
This describes the formulation for the free vibration of joined conical-cylindrical shells with uniform thickness using the transfer of influence coefficient. This method was developed based on successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients, which were defined as the relationships between the displacement and the force vectors at arbitrary nodal circles of the system. The two edges of the shell having arbitrary boundary conditions are supported by several elastic springs with meridional/axial, circumferential, radial and rotational stiffness, respectively. The governing equations of vibration of a conical shell, including a cylindrical shell, are written as a coupled set of first order differential equations by using the transfer matrix of the shell. Once the transfer matrix of a single component has been determined, the entire structure matrix is obtained by the product of each component matrix and the joining matrix. The natural frequencies and the modes of vibration were calculated numerically for joined conical-cylindrical shells. The validity of the present method is demonstrated through simple numerical examples, and through comparison with the results of previous researchers.

To examine the behaviors of traditional wooden structural frame in Korea in direction of beam, an experimental study was performed. The interior frame of Daewoongjeon of Bongjeongsa was selected as a model, which has two short exterior columns and one high inside column. The experimental frame has 1/2 scale and lateral forces are applied at high inside column by using drift control. The vertical gravity loads are applied on the frame. From the results of experiment it was shown that the stiffness and lateral capacity of the frame was increased when vertical loads are applied and the force-drift relationship in positive load direction was not same as in negative load direction. And push-over analysis are performed by using macro model in which the rotational and shear springs which were derived from the another experiments of subassemblies were used. The numerical analysis with macro model showed a good correspondence with the experiment within 2% story drift.

A fine stage is developed for the 3-DOF error compensation of a linear axis in order to improve the positioning accuracy. This stage is designed as a planar parallel mechanism, and the joints are based on a flexure hinge to achieve ultra-precise positioning. Also, the effect of Abbe's offsets between the measuring and driving coordinate systems is minimized to ensure an exact error compensation. The mode shapes of the designed stage are analyzed to verify the desired 3-DOF motions, and the workspace and displacement of a piezoelectric actuator (PZT) for compensation are analyzed using forward and inverse kinematics. The 3-DOF error of a linear axis is measured and compensated by using the developed fine stage. A marked improvement is observed compared to the results obtained without error compensation. The peak-to-valley (PV) values of the positional and rotational errors are reduced by 92.6% and 91.3%, respectively.

In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the natural frequency of a cracked Timoshenko cantilever beams by FEM(finite element method) and experiment. In addition, a method for detection of crack in a cantilever beams is presented based on natural frequency measurements. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam are derived via Hamilton's principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. The detection method of a crack location in a beam based on the frequency measurements is extended here to Timoshenko beams, taking the effects of both the shear deformation and the rotational inertia into account. The differences between the actual and predicted crack positions and sizes are less than 6 % and 23 % respectively.
The fatigue damage accumulation rates of horizontally curved thin walled box-girder bridge have been estimated from vehicle-induced dynamic stress history using rain flow cycle counting method in the time domain approach. The curved box-girder bridge has been numerically modeled using computationally efficient thin walled box-beam finite elements, which take into account the important structural actions like torsional warping, distortion and distortional warping in addition to the conventional displacement and rotational degrees of freedom. Vehicle model includes heave-pitch-roll degrees of freedom with longitudinal and transverse input to the wheels. The bridge deck unevenness, which is taken as inputs to the vehicle wheels, has been assumed to be a realization of homogeneous random process specified by a power spectral density (PSD) function. The linear damage accumulation theory has been applied to calculate fatigue life. The fatigue life estimated by cycle counting method in time domain has been compared with those found by estimating the PSD of response in frequency domain. The frequency domain method uses an analytical expression involving spectral moment characteristics of stress process. The effects of some of the important parameters on fatigue life of the curved box bridge have been studied.
In steel frames, the analysis and design techniques are based on either idealized fixed or pinned connections. In this case, it has the advantage that the structural analysis and the design procedure were simplified, but there could be given different results of analysis between the real steel frame connections and the idealized fixed and pinned connection. This is because the real connections would be analyzed by semi-rigid, and have some transfer of moment and rotational constraint about the loads. In this study, structural analysis program with considered connections that have joint rigidity of fixed, pinned and semi-rigid, was developed. Then, the effects of joint rigidity on strength and displacement. in steel frames subjected to lateral forces and axial forces, were investigate, and the results were compared with those of the Midas Gen. w program.
