The formulation of a non-linear shear deformable shell element is presented for the solution of stability problems of stiffened plates and shells. The formulation of the geometrical stiffness presented here is exactly defined on the midsurface and is efficient for analyzing stability problems of thick plates and shells by incorporating bending moment and transverse shear resultant force. As a result of the explicit integration of the tangent stiffness matrix, this formulation is computationally very efficient in incremental nonlinear analysis. The element is free of both membrane and shear locking behaviour by using the assumed strain method such that the element performs very well in the thin shells. By using six degrees of freedom per node, the present element can model stiffened plate and shell structures. The formulation includes large displacement effects and elasto-plastic material behaviour. The material is assumed to be isotropic and elasto-plastic obeying Von Mises's yield condition and its associated flow rules. The results showed good agreement with references and computational efficiency.

A simplified rotary heat-exchanger model was developed with an assumption of a linear temperature distribution along the flow direction. Based on the model, the exact fluid solution and solid temperature variations were obtained and verified from a comparison with previous numerical studies. The heat transfer in the rotary heat exchanger was investigated using the theoretical solutions. The heat exchanger's effectiveness was shown to be saturated, with a rotational-speed increase that is higher than a critical value that is solely dependent on the thermal capacity of the solid matrix but independent of the fluid flow rate; the saturated value of the effectiveness was determined only by the NTU of the heat exchanger. Where the thermal diffusivity of the solid matrix is so slight that the thermal penetration depth becomes smaller than the matrix thickness, the effective thermal capacity of the solid matrix decreased according to the penetration depth.

This paper describes a sensitivity-coefficient-based iterative method for detecting cracks in a structure. The sensitivity coefficients of a cracked structure are obtained by changing its eigenvectors. The proposed method is applied to a cracked cantilever. The crack is modeled as a rotational stiffness. The predicted cracks are in good agreement with those from a structural reanalysis of the cracked structure.
In this work, we investigate the characteristics of output compliance matrix of a planar 3 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism when joint compliances are attached to the mechanism redundantly. It is shown by simulation that by attaching redundant joint compliances symmetrically to the mechanism, the translational and rotational compliances can be arbitrarily modulated within some ranges. This property could be effectively used in the control of the compliance characteristics of actively adjustable RCC devices.
The visible emission spectra of the o-xylyl radical in the gas phase have been obtained using a Fourier transform spectrometer coupled with a technique of supersonic expansion. The o-xylyl radical was generated in a jet by expansion with an inert buffer gas He from a high voltage dc discharge of the precursor o-xylene. The spectra were analyzed on the basis of the rotational contours of the vibronic bands as well as the known vibrational frequencies by a matrix isolation method.

The authors apply the transfer influence coefficient method to the 3-dimensional vibration analysis of beam with multi-joints and formulate a general algorithm to analysis the longitudinal, flexural and torsional coupled free vibration. In this paper, the structure, which is mainly founded in the robot arms, cranes and so on, has some crooked parts, subsystems and joints but has no closed loop in this system. It is modeled as the beam of a distributed mass system with massless translational, rotational and torsional springs in each node, and joint elements of release or roll at which node the displacement vector is discontinuous. The superiorty of the present method to the transfer matrix method in the computation accuracy was confirmed by the numerical computation results. Moreover, we confirmed that boundary and intermediate conditions could ve controlled by varying the values o the spring constants.
A virtual work form of flexible multibody dynamic formulation with rotary inertia has been derived. For the analysis of large flexible multibody systems, deformation modal coordinates have been employed to represent coupled motion between gross and vibrational motion. For the efficient evaluation of the entries in the mass matrix, a flexible body has been treated as a collection of mass points. The rotary inertia was generated from the consistent mass matrix in a finite element model. Deformation mode shapes were obtained from finite element analysis. Bending and twisting vibration analyses of a cantilever have been carried out to see rotary inertia effects. A space flexible robot simulation has been also carried out to show effectiveness of the proposed formulation. This formulation is effective to the model that consists of beam, plate, or shell element that contains rotational degree of freedom at the nodal point. It is also effective to the flexible body model to which a large lumped rotary inertia is attached.

In this paper we studied about the effect of the open crack and the moving mass on the dynamic behavior of simply supported pipe conveying fluid. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation and analyzed by numerical method. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments i.e. the crack is modeled as a rotational spring. The influences of the crack severity, the position of the crack, the moving mass and its velocity, the velocity of fluid, and the coupling of these factors on the vibration mode, the frequency, and the mid-span displacement of the simply supported pipe are depicted.

Some materials show the character of rigid body in low frequency spectrum. The rigid body motions are consisted of translational and rotational motions. Especially, we can get the acceleration or displacement of a random point in the rigid body by analyzing rigid body transfer matrix at the car's engine and power train. Actually it is difficult to measure the acceleration by attaching the sensor inside of the engine and power train. So the hard to predict acceleration data can be achieved attaching the sensor on the outside of the engine and power train by analyzing the data of rigid body motion which the engine is operated using dynamo. Also this paper will show the change of predicted data and accuracy variation by not using all the measured data but a few exceptions of the point number.
