Anallysis of the flow and noise characteristics of small turbo fan in a ultra slim note PC (초박형 노트북 냉각 터보팬의 유동 및 소음 분석)

  • In recent years, a notebook like an ultrabook gets thinner. Its thickness causes problems in cooling fan performance, system installation condition, and so on. In this study, we installed a small turbofan in notebook system with very narrow gap in order to generate similar condition to a real product. Experiments were performed to measure the fan's performance and the flow and noise characteristics, its results were compared with computational ones. Prediction of P-Q curve using CFD showed under about 5% error in high flow rate and its trend was agreed with experimental one over the flow field. Experimental data to measure the noise at a distance of 100 mm from a rotation axis direction of an impeller corresponded well with computational ones of broadband and BPF noise. Improved Wearability of the Upper Limb Rehabilitation Robot NREX with respect to Shoulder Motion (어깨의 움직임을 중심으로 한 상지재활로봇 NREX의 착용감 개선)

  • NREX, an upper limb exoskeleton robot, was developed at the National Rehabilitation Center to assist in the upper limb movements of subjects with weak muscular strength and control ability of the upper limbs, such as those with hemiplegia. For the free movement of the shoulder of the existing NREX, three passive joints were added, which improved its wearability. For the flexion/extension movement and internal/external rotation movement of the shoulder of the robot, the ball lock pin is used to fix or rotate the passive joint. The force and torque between a human and a robot were measured and analyzed in a reaching movement for four targets using a six-axis force/torque sensor for 20 able-bodied subjects. The addition of two passive joints to allow the user to rotate the shoulder can confirm that the average force of the upper limb must be 31.6% less and the torque must be 48.9% less to perform the movement related to the axis of rotation.

Minimum deformability design of high-strength concrete beams in non-seismic regions

  • In the design of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, apart from providing adequate strength, it is also necessary to provide a minimum deformability even for beams not located in seismic regions. In most RC design codes, this is achieved by restricting the maximum tension steel ratio or neutral axis depth. However, this empirical deemed-to-satisfy method, which was developed based on beams made of normal-strength concrete (NSC) and normal-strength steel (NSS), would not provide a consistent deformability to beams made of high-strength concrete (HSC) and/or high-strength steel (HSS). More critically, HSC beams would have much lower deformability than that provided previously to NSC beams. To ensure that a consistent deformability is provided to all RC beams, it is proposed herein to set an absolute minimum rotation capacity to all RC beams in the design. Based on this requirement, the respective maximum limits of tension steel ratio and neutral axis depth for different concrete and steel yield strengths are derived based on a formula developed by the authors. Finally for incorporation into design codes, simplified guidelines for designing RC beams having the proposed minimum deformability are developed.

Development of dynamic motion models of SPACE code for ocean nuclear reactor analysis

  • Lately, ocean nuclear power plants have attracted attention as one of diverse uses of nuclear power plants. Because ocean nuclear power plants are movable or transportable, it is necessary to analyze the thermal hydraulics in a moving frame of reference, and computer codes have been developed to predict thermal hydraulics in large moving systems. The purpose of this study is to incorporate a three dimensional dynamic motion model into the SPACE code (Safety and Performance Analysis CodE) so that the code is able to analyze thermal hydraulics in an ocean nuclear power plant. A rotation system that describes three-dimensional rotations about an arbitrary axis was implemented, and modifications were made to the one-dimensional momentum equations to reflect the rectilinear and rotational acceleration effects. To demonstrate the code's ability to solve a problem utilizing a rotational frame of reference, code calculations were conducted on various conceptual problems in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional pipeline loops. In particular, the code results for the three-dimensional pipeline loop with a tilted rotation axis agreed well with the multi-dimensional CFD results.

Biomechanical Analysis of Human Stability According to Running Speed: A Comparative Analysis of Lyapunov Exponent and Coefficient of Variation Methods (달리기 속도에 따른 인체 안정성의 생체역학적 분석: 리아프노프 지수와 변이계수 방법의 비교 분석)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of increasing running speed on human stability by comparing the Lyapunov Exponent (LyE) and Coefficient of Variation (CV) methods, with the goal of identifying key variables and uncovering new insights. Method: Fourteen adult males (age: 24.7 ± 6.4 yrs, height: 176.9 ± 4.6 cm, weight: 74.7 ± 10.9 kg) participated in this study. Results: In the CV method, significant differences were observed in ankle (flexion-inversion/eversion; p < .05) and hip joint (internal-external rotation; p < .05) movements, while the center of mass (COM) variable in the coronal axis movements showed a significant difference at the p < .001 level. In the LyE method, statistical differences were observed at the p < .05 level in knee (flexion-extension), hip joint (internal-external rotation) movements, and COM across all three directions (sagittal, coronal, and transverse axis). Conclusion: Our results revealed that the stability of the human body is affected at faster running speeds. The movement of the COM and ankle joint were identified as the most critical factors influencing stability. This suggests that LyE, a nonlinear time series analysis, should be actively introduced to better understand human stabilization strategies.

Rate-Dependence of Off-Axis Tensile Behavior of Cross-Ply CFRP Laminates at Elevated Temperature and Its Simulation

  • The present paper focuses on experimental verification of the ply-by-ply basis inelastic analysis of multidirectional laminates. First of all, rate dependence of the tensile behavior of balanced symmetric cross-ply T800H/epoxy laminates with a $[0/90]_{3S}$ lay-up under off-axis loading conditions at $100^{\circ}C$ is examined. Uniaxial tension tests are performed on plain coupon specimens with various fiber orientations $[{\theta}/(90-{\theta})]_{3S}$ ($\theta$ = 0, 5, 15, 45 and $90^{\circ}C$) at two different strain rates (1.0 and 0.01%/min). The off-axis stress.strain curves exhibit marked nonlinearity for all the off-axis fiber orientations except for the on-axis fiber orientations $\theta$ = 0 and $90^{\circ}$, regardless of the strain rates. Strain rate has significant influences not only on the off-axis flow stress in the regime of nonlinear response but also on the apparent off-axis elastic modulus in the regime of initial linear response. A macromechanical constitutive model based on a ply viscoplasticity model and the classical laminated plate theory is applied to predictions of the rate-dependent off-axis nonlinear behavior of the cross-ply CFRP laminate. The material constants involved by the ply viscoplasticity model are identified on the basis of the experimental results on the unidirectional laminate of the same carbon/epoxy system. It is demonstrated that good agreements between the predicted and observed results are obtained by taking account of the fiber rotation induced by deformation as well as the rate dependence of the initial Young's moduli.

Development of the Electronic compass for Automatic Correction do Deviation (自動自差修正이 가능한 電子컴퍼스의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The Electronic compass made as a pilot model in this research is comprised of a three axis magnetic sensor, an accustar clinometer, and a fiber optic gyro sensor. The results confirming the output character, performance, and the accuracy of the deviation corrects of each sensor are as follows: 1) As for the output character of the three axis magnetic sensor, the magnetic field showed a cosine curve on the X axis, a - sine curve on the Y axis, and constant figures on the Z sensor. The horizontal component H and the vertical component V of the terrestrial magnetism calculated from the output voltage were 33.2${\mu}$T and 23.95${\mu}$T respectively. 2) When the fiber optic gyro sensor is fixed on the electromotive rotation transformation and has made a clockwise rotation with the speed of 10/sec, 20/sec, and 30/sec, the relationship between the output and the rotation angle of the fiber optic gyro sensor showed proportionally constant values. 3) When the magnetic field was induced with a magnet, the deviation before the correction was significant at a high of 25. However, the deviation after the correction using Poisson correction was in the 2 range, significantly lower than before the correction. It was confirmed that automatic deviation corrects are possible with the electronic compass made as a pilot model in this research.

The convergence study on patient position and exposure dose in abdominal CT examination using AEC (AEC를 적용한 복부 CT 검사 시 환자 자세와 피폭선량에 대한 융합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dose and image quality according to the rotation of the X-axis direction in the abdominal CT scan, and to find ways to reduce the exposure dose. The phantom was scanned by rotating in the X-axis direction at 0, 5, 10, and 15 degrees, respectively. The CTDIvol value, HU, noise, and signal-to-noise ratio were measured at each rotation. ANOVA analysis was performed using the SPSSWIN (ver 19.0) program. The radiation exposure dose was 5.44mGy, 5.70mGy, 5.98mGy and 6.38mGy at 0, 5, 10 and 15 degrees, respectively. HU, noise, and signal-to-noise ratio were not statistically significant. In the CT scan, if the patient is located in the isocenter of the gantry aperture and there is no rotation in the X-axis direction, the exposure dose is reduced.

A Method of Pose Matching Rate Acquisition Using The Angle of Rotation of Joint (관절의 회전각을 이용한 자세 매칭률 획득 방법)

  • Recently, in rehabilitation treatment, the situation that requires a measure of the accuracy of the pose and movement of joints is being increased due to the habits and lifestyle of modern people and the environment. In particular, there is a need for active automated system that can determine itself for the matching rate of pose Basically, a method for measuring the matching rate of pose is used by extracting an image using the Kinect or extracting a silhouette using the imaging device. However, in the case of extracting a silhouette, it is difficult to set the comparison, and in the case of using the Kinect sensor, there is a disadvantages that high accumulated error rate according to movement. Therefore, In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the accumulated error of matching rate of pose getting the rotation angle of joint by measuring the real-time amount of change of 9-axis sensor. In particular, it can be measured same conditions that unrelated of the physical condition and unaffected by the data for the back and forth movement, because of it compares the current rotation angle of the joint. Finally, we show a comparative advantage results by compared with traditional method of extracting a silhouette and a method using a Kinect sensor.

Rotation Angle Estimation Method using Radial Projection Profile (방사 투영 프로파일을 이용한 회전각 추정 방법)

  • In this paper, we studied the rotation angle estimation methods required for image alignment in an image recognition environment. In particular, a rotation angle estimation method applicable to a low specification embedded-based environment was proposed and compared with the existing method using complex moment. The proposed method estimates the rotation angle through similarity mathcing of the 1D projection profile along the radial axis after converting an image into polar coordinates. In addition, it is also possible to select a method of using vector sum of the projection profile, which more simplifies the calculation. Through experiments conducted on binary pattern images and gray-scale images, it was shown that the estimation error of the proposed method is not significantly different from that of complex moment-based method and requires less computation and system resources. For future expansion, a study on how to match the rotation center in gray-scale images will be needed.
