탈립성(脱粒性), 단간종(短稈種)인 통일계품종(統一系品種)에 적합(適合)한 바인더의 개량(改良) 개발(開發)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究)(I) (Modification of the Existing Binders for Highly-Shattering, Short-Stem Rice Varieties (I))

  • The binders introduced in Korea were originally designed to be used for Japonica-type varieties which have relatively long stem and are highly resistant to shattering. In order to use it for Tongil varieties which are short and easy to be shattered, mechanical modifications are necessary to reduce a grain loss incurred during binder operation. This study was intended to investigate analytically and experimentally the major sources of grain losses caused by three kinds of binders now introduced in Korea. Actual modification for each of three binders was done and experimentally compared to see if any improvement on grain loss was achieved. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows; 1. It was required that the power transmission of binder should have a shifting mechanism so that velocities of pick-up and traveling units could be changed independently as desired according to the Japonica-type and Tongil varieties. In other words, the desired velocity of traveling unit should be obtained by shifting the transmission and the velocity of pick-up unit should be selected by reaping clutch according to the variety independent of the velocity of traveling unit as shown in Fig. 6. 2. To reduce grain loss it was desired that the moving parts of the pick-up unit should have the lowest possible velocities in harvesting Tongil varieties, unless the reduction of the speed be hindered the conveyance of the material. Based on the study, it was concluded that the velocities of pick-up unit be reduced by about 35% of those of the existing units. 3. It was found that the lug at the upper rotating section of pick-up case gave a severe impact on the ears of rice to increase grain loss. The optimum design of pick-up case to protect the ears from the protruding part of the lug was recommended by the result of analysis of the trajectory of the end-point of lug at the position. 4. It was proved analytically and experimentally that pick-up unit at the lower-rotating part was the other important source of grain loss in pick-up and divider assembly. In order to reduce a grain loss incurred by lugs at their lower-rotating section, it was suggested to improve it by (1) widening the space between right and left lower-rotating section, (2) shortening the length of lugs, (3) enlargement of the angle between the pick-up case and ground-level, and (4) attaching guard to right and left dividers so that the rotating lug could not give a high impact to the paddy hill. 5. Pick-up and divider assembly of the original binder of three models studied was modified according to the suggestions that were given by the preliminary study. Field test showed that the modified binders were able to reduce grain losses by about 0.4-0.7 percentage points compared to those without modification.

  • This paper presents the structural model development and verification processes of wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available is used for the study. The wind turbine assembled by blades, rotor, nacelle and tower. The wind blade connected to rotor. To make the whole turbine structural model, the mass and stiffness properties of all parts should be clear and given. However the wind blade, hub, nacelle, rotor and power generating machinery parts have difficulties to define the material properties because of the composite and assembling nature of that. Nowadays to increase the power generating coefficient and cost efficiency, the highly accurate aerodynamic loading evaluating technique should be developed. The Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is the emerging new way to evaluate the aerodynamic force on the rotating wind blade. To perform the FSI analysis, the fluid and structural model which are sharing the associated interface topology have to be provided. In this paper, the structural model of blade development and verifying processes have been explained for Part1. In following Part2 paper, the processes of whole turbine system will be discussing.

  • In this study, finite element modeling and structural vibration analyses of a gyrocopter have been conducted considering dynamic hub-loads due to rotating blades. For this research, 3D CATIA models for most mechanical parts are exactly prepared and assembled into the final aircraft configuration. Then the dynamic finite element model including several non-structural parts are constructed based on the exact 3D CAD data. Computational structural dynamics technique based on finite element method is applied using both MSC/NASTRAN and developed in-house code which can largely reduce the pre and postprocessing time of general transient dynamic analyses. Modal based transient and frequency response analyses are used to efficiently investigate vibration characteristics. The results include natural frequency comparison for different fuel and pilot conditions, fundamental natural mode shapes, frequency responses and transient acceleration responses of the present gyrocopter model.

시각센서를 이용한 축대칭 물체 측정 시스템 개발 (Development of a Measurement System for Axial-symmetric Objects Using Vision Sensor)

  • The dimension measurement problem of products has been a major concern in the quality control in the industrial fields. A non-contacting measurement system using the vision sensor is proposed in this paper. The system consists of a CCD camera for the image capture, a frame grabber for the acquired image processing, a laser unit for the illumination, scanning unit for the measurement, and a personal computer for the geometry computation. The slit beam which is generated by passing the laser beam through a cylin- drical lens is fired to the axial-symmetric object on the rotating plate. The image of objects reflected by the laser slit beam, acquired by the CCD camera, becomes much brighter than the other parts of objects. After the histogram of brightness for the captured image is calculated, low intensity pixels are filtered out by threshold method. The performance of proposed measurement system is obtained for several different axial symmetric objects. The proposed system is verified as a good tool for measuring axial-symmetric parts in a limited condition with a minor investment cost.

  • The transmission of tracked vehicles performs complex functions as steering, shifting, braking, etc. and the system level life time has been a key influenced by the number of sub-parts like as gear assembly, torque converter, clutches, bearings and so on. In particular, the mechanical type steering system in tracked vehicle has impact shock torques in steering shift and those kind of shock torques can effect on the durability of many sub-parts in power train system. The field failure modes of gear assembly, steering assembly and the bearings of output shaft appear as a very complex phenomenon. In this study, the actual failure, which may occur in field, of the transmission was investigated comprehensively and that the endurance test on the resulting output shaft bearing failure analysis and life assessment was performed. Life time test method used in this study, developed for the purpose of the internal usage, and under these testing techniques the impact of the each bearing damage, which used in tracked vehicle transmission left / right outputs of different structures, was analyzed.

  • The object of this study is to develope the program for analyzing the fluid flow and heat transfer of PMSM electric motor. The program will be mainly used for inexperienced users of CFD analysis. So it has to be performed using the geometry data and the heat source of each part only. Interface program for converting the given data to the instruction of pre-processor is developed. The conjugate heat transfer between a flow passage of the motor and inner parts consisting of rotor and stator is regarded. In order to reduce the computational time and memory storage, cyclic boundary condition is applied. For the numerical simulation, MRF(Multi-Reference Frame) method is used to consider rotating operation of the rotor and heat source is applied to the copper, wire, and magnetic parts in the motor. On the screen of computer, the users can show the velocity distributions and the contours such as pressure, turbulent kinetic energy, turbulent dissipation rate and temperature.

원추형(圓錐型) 탈곡기(脱糓機)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Study on Cone Type Thresher (I))

  • The major limiting factor on the determination of combine capacity is the frequent occurence of clogging over the some parts of machine when the crop is wet in the case of Japanese self-feeding type combine. And in the case of American conventional combine having big separating parts, the great grain loss and damage occur when the machine is used for rice harvesting. This experiment was carried out to develop the new type threshing and separating equipment. Proto-type thresher which consist of a conical threshing drum and a conical separating sieve rotating around the threshing cone was constructed and tested. In the case of 800 rpm of threshing cone speed, average threshing loss was below 1 percent, separating loss was about 1 percent, grain damage was about 0.4 percent, and average total power required was about 2.6 PS. This design has some problems such as higher power required or wrapping problems under the conditions of feeding long damp straw. But, compared with the conventional combine or thresher, this machine certainly has some potentials for this approach to combine development. The crop feed rate must be increased through improvement of the feeding portion of the threshing cone. And it is required to investigate further about some parameters causing wrapping phenomena.

35 kWh급 초전도 플라이휠 에너지 저장 시스템 프레임 설계 및 제작 (Design and Construction of 35 kWh Class Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System Main Frame)

  • A superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFES) is an electro-mechanical battery which transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy for storage, and vice versa. The 35 kWh class SFES is composed of a main frame, superconductor bearings, electro-magnetic dampers, a motor/generator, and a composite flywheel. The energy storing capacity of the SFES can be limited by the operational speed range of the system. The operational speed range is limited by many factors, especially the resonant frequency of the main frame and flywheel. In this study, a steel frame has been designed and constructed for a 35 kWh class SFES. All the main parts, their housings, and the flywheel are aligned and assembled on to the main frame. While in operation, the flywheel excites the main frame, as well as all the parts assembled to it, causing the system to vibrate at the rotating speed. If the main frame is excited at its resonant frequency, the system will resonate, which may lead to unstable levitation at the superconductor bearings and electro-magnetic dampers. The main frame for the 35 kWh class SFES has been designed and constructed to improve stiffness for the stable operation of the system within the operational speed range.

열에 의한 치아경조직의 변화에 관한 연구 (A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF HEAT ON DENTAL HARD TISSUE)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of heat generated by rotating bur on the dental hard tissue in vitro. Freshly extracted molar teeth with normal appearance from early 20's male were collected and experimental teeth were divided into 4 groups and the teeth in each group were prepared class I cavity with different clinical procedures as follows. The four methods were. I. 20,000rpm without coolant II. 20,000rpm with coolant III. 500,000rpm without coolant IV. 500,000rpm with coolant Five teeth were reserved intact as a control group. These teeth were longitudinally split into two parts by means of chisel after class I cavity preparation. In a control group 5 parts were boiled in water for 20 minutes and the other 5 specimens were not boiled. All specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution and the image of dye penetration was examined and photographed under stereomicroscope. Followings were the results obtained through the study. 1. In control group, dye penetration of the unboiled specimens was increased than with the boiled group. 2. The specimens prepared cavity without coolant showed decreased dye penetration than with the coolant group. 3. 20,000rpm without coolant group showed the least dye penetration. 4. 500,000rpm with coolant group showed similar level of dye penetration to the unboiled specimens from the control group.

동적 안정성 향상을 위한 밀링 머신의 구조개선 (Design Alteration of a Milling Machine Structure for the Improved Stability)

  • Inherent in machine tool structures are the vibrations which are generated by rotating parts such as motors, spindles and chucks. The vibrations not only hurt the precision machining but also damage the structures, and become more serious with time. Many of the old machine tools show severe vibrations for the desired accuracy of the modern industries. It is too much of a waste, however, to get rid of them as scraps. There have been many researches in order to suppress the vibrations of old machine tool structures using the tool post which utilizes actuators to compensate the existing vibrations and using the dampers or absorbers attached to some critical parts. In this paper, the dynamic properties are analyzed to obtain the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a machine tool structure which reflect the main reasons of the biggest vibrations under the given operating conditions. And the feasibility of improving the stability of the structure has been investigated with minor design changes and expenses. The result of the study shows that simple changes based on proper system identification can considerably improve the stability of the machine tool structure.
