  • A poled lead zirconate titanate (PZT) cube specimen is subjected to impulse-type compressive stress with increasing magnitude in parallel to the poling direction at four room and high temperatures. During the ferroelastic domain switching induced by the compressive stress, electric displacement in the poling direction and longitudinal and transverse strains are measured. Using the measured responses, linear material properties, namely, the piezoelectric and elastic compliance coefficients, are evaluated by a graphical method, and the effects of stress and temperature are analyzed. Finally, the dependency of the evaluated linear material properties on relative remnant polarization is analyzed and discussed.

  • Viscoplastic response and densification behaviors of Ti-6AI-4V powder compacts under uniaxial compression are studied at room and high temperatures with various initial relative densities and strain rates. The yield function and strain-hardening law proposed by Kim and co-workers were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare experimental data with finite element calculations for porous Ti6A14V powder compacts. Displacement-relative density, displacement-load relations and deformed geometry of Ti-A14V powder compacts were compared with finite element results. Density distributions in Ti-6AI-4V powder compacts were also measured and compared with finite element results.

  • The success of warm forming of Mg alloy sheets is very dependent on its frictional behavior at elevated temperatures. The effects of contact pressure and sliding length on the frictional characteristics of AZ31B Mg alloy sheet were investigated at elevated temperature and at room temperature. The contact pressure range for the friction test was determined through FE analysis of the roof panel which is a candidate for Mg alloy application. According to the experimental results, the frictional behavior of the Mg alloy sheet is equally highly influenced by both sliding length and contact pressure at room temperature. At elevated temperatures, however, the sliding length has a more dominant influence on the frictional characteristics of the Mg alloy sheet than the contact pressure, if the contact pressure is lower than a certain level.

  • CdS films were deposited on glass substrates by R.F. magnetron sputtering method and the films were annealed at various substrate temperatures ranging from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$. Structural properties of the films were studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. The structural parameters as crystallite size have been evaluated. The crystallite sizes were found to increase, and the X-ray diffraction patterns were seen to sharpen by increasing substrate temperatures. X-ray diffraction patterns of these films indicated that they contain both cubic (zincblende) and hexagonal (wurtzite) structures as a mixture. Optical properties of the films were measured at room temperature by using UV/VIS spectrometer in the wavelength range of 190 to 1100nm and optical absorption coefficients were calculated using these data. The energy gap of the films was found to decrease, and the band edge sharpness of the optical absorption was seen to oscillate by annealing. The results show that heat treatments under optimal annealing condition can provide significant improvements in the properties of CdS thin films.

  • A new oscillator configuration is presented and tested for Josephson voltage standard operated at the cryogenic(4.2K) temperature. Features of active devices are investigated in aspects of 1/f noise, output power, and current collapse at low temperature. The output power of oscillator is optimized by a nonlinear design approach called Harmonic Two Signal Method(HTSM). The embedding newworks of the generalized six oscillators with tow loads are derived. A HEMT oscilliator is designed in X-Band for the Josephson voltage standard and tested at room and cryogenic(4.2K) temperatures. Oscillation frequency, output power, C/N ratio, and fequency stability are compared at room and low temperatures.

  • Changes in polarization and thermal expansion coefficients during temperature increase of a poled lead zirconate titanate (PZT) cube specimen switched by an electric field at room temperature are measured. The measured data are analyzed to construct governing differential equations for polarization and strain changes. By solving the differential equations, an experimental formula for the high temperature behavior of ferroelectric materials is obtained. It is found that the predictions by the formula are in good agreement with measures. From the viewpoint of macroscopic remnant state variables, it appears that the processes of electric field-induced switching at different temperatures are identical and independent of temperature between $20^{\circ}C$ and $110^{\circ}C$.

  • The paper provides the test results and analysis on the behavior of steel 1.7147 at different temperatures. Mechanical uniaxial tests were used to determine mechanical properties, resistance to creep and Charpy impact tests to determine impact energy. Test results are presented in the form of engineering stress-strain diagrams, creep curves as well as numerical data related to impact energy. The results show that the tensile strength has the highest value at room temperature, and the same goes for the yield strength as well as for modulus of elasticity. After room temperature both of mentioned properties decrease with temperature increasing. Some of creep curves were modeled using rheological models and analytical equation. Based on Charpy impact energy an assessment of fracture toughness was made.

  • To get a comfortable sleep, the most improtant thing is how well we do thermorgulate during the rest in bed before sleeping as well as during sleep. In other works, the ambient temperature of the sleeping room is very improtant in the organization of human sleep. In recent years, the effect of ambient temperature on human sleep has been increasingly stueided. These studies were primarily concerned with the relation between thermorgulatory processes and sleep, and more precisely with the findings that various thermoregulatory processes are inactivated or severly curtailed during REM sleep in a number of animals, also that panting and shivering in heat and cold, respectively, cease during REM sleep in cats. Haskel et al. noted that although REM sleep latency was increased at thigh and low temperature. REM sleep was depressed to a greater extent by lower than by higher temperatures whereas the reverse was obseved for SWS. It has also been found that a load omposed upon thermoregulatory mechanisms should markedly affect sleep processes, and that conversely, sleep in conditions of thermic stress should interfere with adequate thermorgulatory reactions. Sleep in an animala under thermic stress is, on the whole, both shorter and less deep than under normal thermic conditions.

  • In this study, the uniaxial ratcheting effect of Z2CND18.12N austenitic stainless steel at room and elevated temperatures is firstly simulated based on the Ahmadzadeh-Varvani hardening rule (A-V model), which is embedded into the finite element software ABAQUS by writing the user material subroutine UMAT. The results show that the predicted results of A-V model are lower than the experimental data, and the A-V model is difficult to control ratcheting strain rate. In order to improve the predictive ability of the A-V model, the parameter γ2 of the A-V model is modified using the isotropic hardening criterion, and the extended A-V model is proposed. Comparing the predicted results of the above two models with the experimental data, it is shown that the prediction results of the extended A-V model are in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • The mechanical properties of mechanically alloyed Al-4wt%Mg alloys dispersed with $MgAl_2O_4$ dispersoilds at room and elevated temperatures were investigated. The powders in steady state during mechanical alloying consisted of Mg-supersatu rated Al solid solution and $Al_4C_3$ which resulted from the reaction of Al with C in process control agent (methanol). The hot-extruded materials consisted of uniformly dispersed fine $MgAl_2O_4$, ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$ and matrix with extremly fine substructure. Tensile specimens prepared from the extruded bars were tested at room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$ under different strain rates. The tensile strength of alloys at room temperature ranged from 500 to 594MPa. At elevated temperatures, the tensile strengths and elongations decreased with increasing temperature. Adding 3% $MgAl_2O_4$ to Al-4wt%Mg increased the tensile strength of 50MPa at rowan temperature and 20MPa at $400^{\circ}C$.
