  • Purpose: As the improvement in quality of medical environment and the spatial consideration for the prevention of infection in the hospital have become increasingly important in the recent years, specific and practical planning for air conditioning room's area has become a major issue accordingly. However, the air conditioning room tends to be discussed focusing on technical factors such as air conditioning systems that are irrelevant to building plans, while discussions of most departments related to the medical functions have actively taken placed. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors influencing the planning for the air conditioning room area, and through subsequent analysis of the area of the air conditioning room, to propose a way to improve effective planning for the air conditioning room area. Methods: This study examines the case hospitals that fall into two types: each floor supply system and concentrated supply system, and compares and analyzes the air conditioning room area-related factors and the characteristics of changes in the interior of air conditioning room before and after remodeling through air conditioning floor plan of those case hospitals. Results: The air conditioning room can be classified into the net area of the functional space such as duct passages, and the public area such as aisle space, and of those the public area is an important factor in calculating the area of the air conditioning room. The public area of the air-conditioning room should not be planned considering only the spaces for mobile passage or maintenance activities, but should be planned taking into account internal changes such as expansion and replacement of equipment in the future from the beginning. Implications: When planning a medical facility, it is used as basic data for the planning of the air conditioning room area, which is a significant fixed factor in the initial setting.

  • The facilities of exhibition and collection for cultural properties is affected by environmental pollution. In order to accumulate a store of basic data, we was investigated eight points(three points at exhibition room and five points at collection room) at four institutes, from December 2000 to March 2001.As a result of investigation, the temperature of A-Exhibition room measured low because of don’t moved HVAC(Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) System, B Exhibition room is dry for the effect of air-conditioner and the air pollutants concentration of C-Exhibition room is high for the kind of an exhibition room. The air-condition was varied within the open period. The air pollutants concentration of A-Collection room is measured high because the air-pollutants is generated in a new buildings and the air pollutants concentration of C-1 & C-2-Collection room is high for the kind of an collection room. It is necessary to ventilate sufficiently.

  • The transfer of air pollutants between passenger room and service room in train are investigated by the computational analysis. The effects of service room temperature, inlet velocity, initial concentration and heating are studied. The flow induced by the difference of density between two rooms is found to take the major role in transfer of polluted air. Low temperature of service room enhances the polluted air flow into passenger room along the floor. Exhaust fan above the door between two rooms is not effective for this case. Strong inlet flow is found to suppress polluted air flow from service room. The heating of passenger room can promote air pollution.

  • Air quality in hospitals has always concerned hospitals' health officials due to its dangerous particles and gases. Because of the importance of air conditioning in the operating room, a system must be embedded in operating rooms to direct the contaminated air outside, and inject fresh filtered air from outside back into the room. In this study, laminar flow air conditioning system is implemented in the operating room by slot linear diffusers and with the help of air curtain. For this, stimulation Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) was used due to its efficiency. The aim of the present study was to find a proper solution to overcome the unfavorable factors, namely, contamination, humidity, and also temperature, velocity and pressure inside the room. These factors were implemented with different values and then stimulated through FLUENT software program. Results showed that the aforementioned factors can be overcome using air curtain and slot linear diffusers.

  • In a room air conditioning cooling system, if the room-sensible-heat-factor as plotted on a Psychrometric Chart intersects the saturation curve below the apparatus leaving air dewpoint, reheat must be used to maintain the design room air conditions. However, if the design room humidity is permitted to be raised to some degree, the cooling system will not require reheat as a new room-sensible-heat-factor line is developed between the apparatus leaving air dew-Point and the adjusted design room air conddition point. The advantages to this are the cost of reheat equipment and operation can be avoided. The cycle of this system can be shown on a Psychrometric Chart to plot the design condition points.

  • This study aims to design and develop AirDeep-Room, a multi-sensor system for monitoring air quality in various indoor environments. The system measures CO2, TVOC, particulate matter, temperature, and humidity in real-time. By integrating multiple sensors, AirDeep-Room allows convenient correlation analysis using low data format in real-time. The sensor system was installed in a server room and a classroom. Data analysis showed a negative correlation of -0.24 between temperature and humidity in the server room, and a positive correlation of 0.43 in the classroom, indicating different interactions. A high correlation (r=0.69) between the number of students and concentrations of CO2 and TVOC demonstrated the significant impact of occupancy on air quality. AirDeep-Room effectively manages air quality across various environments and provides essential data for improving air quality in densely populated areas.

  • CFD simulation is a very useful tool to predict the concentration of contaminant generated from the building materials in a single room. However, there is a limitation on analyzing air movement and contaminant concentration in a multi-room when the door of each room is closed. In this study, network based simulation was coupled with contaminant simulation for the multi-room condition, using an network simulation tool 'ESP-r'. The coupled simulation was first validated with experimental measurements which performed to define the characteristics of the analyzed space prior to the simulation, and indoor air flow and contaminant concentration between rooms were then analyzed when the door of each room was open and closed in the case of natural and forced ventilation.

  • The performance of the condenser installed in the air-conditioning plant room of a high-rise building was studied numerically. The effect of the draft direction on the performance of an air-conditioner was analyzed. The on-coil temperature of the condenser was investigated by varying the arrangement and location o( the condenser in the air-conditioning plant room. The performance of an air-conditioner was also evaluated by using COP (coefficient of performance) and CGPI (condenser group performance indicator). The condenser in an air-conditioning plant room should be arranged in such a manner that the fan of the condenser is facing the outside of the building to exhaust the hot air directly, The model by which the condenser is located at the lower-left end of an air-conditioning plant room can prevent the hot air from reentering, and allow indrafting of fresh air. When the direction of draft is to the frontal face of the building, the performance of the condenser above 30th floor is degraded.

  • In this study, the effect of the air purifier located in the living room on the reduction of PM2.5 concentration in the living room and bedroom was investigated. Measurements were carried out in real-life for about 2 weeks in a Korean apartment building where a 3-person household had lived and the exclusive private area was 84.9 m2. When the air purifier in the living room was operating, the change in PM2.5 concentration was measured when the door to the bedroom connected to the living room was opened and closed. In the case of living with the bedroom door open, the average PM2.5 concentrations in the living room and bedroom were almost the same. When living with the bedroom door closed, the average PM2.5 in the living room was higher than in the bedroom. The ventilation and cooking effects in the living room mainly affected the PM2.5 concentration in the living room. Only one air purifier in the living room was able to keep the PM2.5 concentration in the living room and bedroom low.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an optimized Artificial Neural Network(ANN) model to predict the descending time of room air temperature. For this, program for predicting room air temperature and ANN program using generalized delta rule were collected through simulation for predicting room air temperature. ANN was trained and the ANN model having the optimized values-learning rate, moment, bias, number of hidden layer, and number of neuron of hidden layer was presented.
