  • The purpose of this study is to find the light intensity which induced maximum gathering rate and to observe the variation of the gathering rate both at daytime and night by using Sea-bass, Epinephelus septemfasciatus (Thunberg). An experimental tank (360 L×50 W×55H cm) was set up in a dark room. An illumination system was attached to the end of one side of the tank to control horizontal light intensity. Eight artificial light sources were prepared by combination of three with white light bulbs (10W, 60W, 100W) and eight filters. During the experiment water depth was maintained 50cm level in the tank. The tank was marked into six longitudinal sections each being 60cm long to observe the distribution of fish. The fish were acclimatized in dark condition for 50 minutes before the main experiment. Upon turning on the light, the number of fish in each section was counted 60 times every 30 seconds, and the gathering rate was obtained from the average number of fish in each section. The light intensity inducing maximum gathering rate was 24.13 lux (15.25~35.93 lux) at daytime and 0.41 lux (0.25~0.63 lux) at night. The variation of the gathering rate of fish in illumination time was great and did not show any definite pattern but fluctuated irregularly. Its different between daytime and night is remarkable.

Effects of Electron Beam Irradiation on Microbiological and Organoleptic Qualities of Powdered Red Pepper and Ginger (Electron Beam 조사가 고추 및 생강 분말의 미생물학적 및 관능적 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Electron beam (EB) was applied to study the sterilizing techniques for powdered red pepper and ginger by determining their quality over gamma radiation (GR) from the microbiological and organoleptic points of view. The samples showed high microbial loads, such as $10^5{\sim}10^6\;CFU/g$ in total aerobic bacteria, negligible levels in yeasts & molds and $10^2\;CFU/g$ in coliforms. EB irradiation at 5 kGy resulted in the reduction of microbial loads by 2 to 3 log cycles, thereby decreasing the levels of total bacteria to $10^2{\sim}10^3\;CFU/g$ and resulting in negative in coliforms. Decimal reduction doses $(D_{10})$ value on the initial bacterial loads in red pepper were $1.50{\sim}1.54\;kGy$ in EB and $1.68{\sim}1.80\;kGy$ in GR, while powdered ginger showed $1.30{\sim}2.27\;kGy$ in EB and $1.45{\sim}2.77\;kGy$ in GR, respectively. EB and GR showed a similar effect on microbial decontamination for both samples. Microbial populations in stored samples for 4 months at room temperature were not remarkably different from the initial loads in all samples. Irradiation caused little changes in Hunter's color parameters, but that were changable during storage. Sensory evaluations on color and odor of powdered samples indicated that no significant differences were observed among the all samples compared. These results revealed that EB irradiation at optimal dose levels for microbial control was not detrimental to the sensory quality of powdered red pepper and ginger.

  • In this paper, a minimum rotation radius was designed and fabricated to overcome the threshold so that elderly or disabled people who have difficulty moving can move and transfer safely and conveniently in a narrow room. In the indoor environment, where the sedentary culture develops, this study aimed to provide convenience for passengers with fracture diseases, geriatric diseases, and other knee and waist diseases. First, links, seats, armrests, covers, motors, batteries, chargers, controllers, etc. were attached to the frame so that they could be moved and lifted indoors. The product design and structure were designed considering the user's environment and physical characteristics, and IoT functions were added. A driving experiment was performed to confirm the operating performance of the manufactured indoor moving and lifting wheelchair. The performance tests, such as continuous running time, turning radius, maximum actuator load, maximum lift height, sound pressure level, minimum sensing distance of the driving aid sensor, interworking of server and app programs, device compatibility, and duty cycle error rate, were performed. As a result of the test, the built-in wheelchair could achieve the performance test target of each item and operate successfully.

Effects on postoperative nausea and vomiting of nefopam versus fentanyl following bimaxillary orthognathic surgery: a prospective double-blind randomized controlled trial

  • Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) frequently occurs following bimaxillary orthognathic surgeries. Compared to opioids, Nefopam is associated with lower incidences of PONV, and does not induce gastrointestinal tract injury, coagulopathy, nephrotoxicity, or fracture healing dysfunction, which are common side effects of Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. We compared nefopam- and fentanyl-induced incidence of PONV in patients with access to patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) following bimaxillary orthognathic surgeries. Methods: Patients undergoing bimaxillary orthognathic surgeries were randomly divided into nefopam and fentanyl groups. Nefopam 120 mg or fentanyl $700{\mu}g$ was mixed with normal saline to a final volume of 120 mL. Patients were given access to nefopam or fentanyl via PCA. Postoperative pain intensity and PONV were measured at 30 minutes and 1 hour after surgery in the recovery room and at 8, 24, 48, and 72 hours after surgery in the ward. The frequency of bolus delivery was compared at each time point. Results: Eighty-nine patients were enrolled in this study, with 48 in the nefopam (N) group and 41 in the fentanyl (F) group. PONV occurred in 13 patients (27.7%) in the N group and 7 patients (17.1%) in the F group at 8 hours post-surgery (P = 0.568), and there were no significant differences between the two groups at any of the time points. VAS scores were $4.4{\pm}2.0$ and $3.7{\pm}1.9$ in the N and F groups, respectively, at 8 hours after surgery (P = 0.122), and cumulative bolus delivery was $10.7{\pm}13.7$ and $8.6{\pm}8.5$, respectively (P = 0.408). There were no significant differences in pain or bolus delivery at any of the remaining time points. Conclusion: Patients who underwent bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and were given nefopam via PCA did not experience a lower rate of PONV compared to those that received fentanyl via PCA. Furthermore, nefopam and fentanyl did not provide significantly different postoperative pain control.

Effect of commercial wheat flour addition on retrogradation-retardation of rice cake (garaetteok) (시판 밀가루를 첨가한 가래떡의 노화 지연효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the retardation effect of commercial wheat flours on starch retrogradation using a model system, the rice cake (garaetteok). Rice cakes were prepared with four different commercial wheat flours in various concentrations (0.1-0.7%). The rice cakes were vacuum-packed and stored for 4 days at room temperature. The rice cakes containing > 0.3% wheat flour were not able to maintain their original appearance due to enzymatic decomposition, whereas the rice cakes containing 0.1% wheat flour did not reveal any retrogradation-retardation effect. Garaetteok containing 0.2% wheat flour maintained its shape well and showed considerably lower hardness than that of the control, thereby demonstrating a retrogradation-retardation effect. The commercial wheat flours clearly showed the retardation effect on starch retrogradation, and thus, it is important to use a proper amount. On the other hand, the retrogradation-retardation effect of the different wheat flours was not significantly altered possibly due to the same origin of wheat grain.

Cultural characteristics of Auricularia polytricha 'Geoni' in a high temperature growth room (고온기 재배시설에 따른 털목이 '건이'의 생육 특성)

  • We assessed the growth characteristics of Auricularia polytricha 'Geoni' cultivated in a simple greenhouse constructed of polyethylene (PE) without air conditioning (high temperature) and in an air conditioned mushroomhouse. The successful cultivation of A. polytricha 'Geoni' at high temperatures can reduce energy and facility investment costs. The comparison of growth characteristics of the fungi grown under the different temperature conditions revealed that fruit bodies were larger in the higher temperature condition, but were brighter in the lower temperature condition. Additionally, fruit body physiology was found to be not affected by temperature. In the PE greenhouse, the fresh weight of fruit body was higher in mid-June and early July. Therefore, it was possible to effectively control the growth period of the mushrooms during a high-temperature period. The findings indicate the potential to cultivate A. polytricha 'Geoni' in a simple PE greenhouse that is not cooled in summer, thus reducing energy costs.

Production and evaluation of PRRS resistant pigs (PRRS 저항성 유전형 자돈의 생산 및 평가)

  • Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is economically the most important and challenging disease in swine industries worldwide and caused by PRRS virus (PRRSV). Previous studies reported that pigs with heterozygous genotypes in the guanylate-binding proteins (GBP1 and GBP5) exhibited increased resistance against PRRSV infection. The present study was conducted to produce higher numbers of the heterozygous pigs based on the PRRS resistant polymorphisms found in GBP1 (GBP1E2 and WUR) and GBP5, and evaluate the resistance of heterozygous pigs against challenge with a type 2 PRRSV (JA142) in comparison with homozygous pigs. In the challenge study, 12, 4 week-old PRRSV-negative piglets were selected based on the genotypes of the 3 polymorphisms (GBP1E2, WUR and GBP5). Among them, 8 piglets [homozygous (n=4) and heterozygous (n=4)] were challenged with JA142 and kept in the same room, and the remaining 4 piglets were kept separately as a negative control. In results, the sperms collected from the boars of GBP1E2-GG genotype produced approximately 28~41% higher numbers of heterozygous piglets as compared with those from the boars of GBP1E2-AG genotype. In the challenge study, we found that heterozygous piglets showed the significantly lower levels of viremia than homozygous piglets at 14, 21 and 28 dpc. Consistently, these heterozygous piglets also exhibited significantly higher ADWG than homozygous piglets. Therefore, in the current study, selection of boars based on SNP markers could increase the production of PRRS resistant piglets and the PRRS resistant pigs were found to be more resistant to PRRSV infection.

  • The aim of this study, a traditional residential area in the environmentally friendly design techniques to identify the techniques and principles that have been carried out to reestablish the principles. To do this, through literature review environmental performance is reflected in the traditional residential area side of resources conservation, locational aspects, spatial configuration, and how cases were selected looking for ways to apply modern. Are examples of upper class housing in the Chosen Dynasty Period period construction relatively well-preserved round and a good building with a clear housing Dokrakdang year were selected. Locational aspects of the terrain with minimal changes to the building and construction techniques were entirely in terms of environmental conservation and environmental temperature was adjusted to regulate the room temperature technique could be seen. In terms of cycling in natural materials were recycled. and water make used of positive through water cycling technique & water control. In addition, the importance of landscape views overlooking the landscape from inside to outside through the regulation of the various internal and external space technique was used to attract and expand. Traditionality in the pursuit of modern space, simply cut off because of tradition rather than to restore or recover the organizing principle inherent in the traditional space, and extraction of the contemporary social, cultural and environmental understanding of space is acceptable in basis. Environmentally-friendly design techniques in a traditional residential area for a long time to be developed by the experience of its application of modern environmental and energy problems and pleasant environment to the creation of human life and are subject to significant swings in that.

Increasing Root-mat Formation by Plant Growth Regulators in Machine Transplanting with Infant Seedling of Rice (생장조절제를 이용한 벼 기계이앙 어린모 맷트형성 촉진)

  • This experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of plant growth regulators (PGR) on the root -mat formation of infant seedling (8- to 10-day-old seedling) of rice in machine transplanting. The rice seeds of Odaebyeo were socked in water with different concentrations of PGRs for 48 hours at room temperature. Seeding rate was 220 g per seed tray (30x60x3cm). Metalaxyl (25% wettable powder) was used for a fungicide. Generally, the metalaxyl-treated seeds markedly promoted the root growth of the rice seedling, while tetracy-cle, pachlobutrazol and NTN -821 reduced the seedling height and root length, and thickened the shoot diameter at higher concentation levels. Tetracycle decreased root length of the rice seedlings but increased root number per seedling, and root-mat formation was poor. Whereas, metalaxyl concentrations of 200 and 1,000 ppm markedly increased root length and number of root hairs without decreasing root number, thus root-mat formation was excellent. The optimum concentration of metalaxyl seed treatment to increase the root-mat formation of infant seedling of rice was about 200 ppm. Metalaxyl seed treatment could be advanced one to two days of the duration of root-mat formation compared with control.
