Rayleigh wave velocity along a straight survey line on a concrete plate is measured in order to compare different non-destructive data acquisition techniques. Results from a rolling non-contact data acquisition system using air-coupled microphones are compared to conventional stationary accelerometer results. The results show a good match between the two acquisition techniques. Rolling measurements were found to provide a fast and reliable alternative to stationary system for stiffness determination. However, the non-contact approach is shown to be sensitive to unevenness of the measured surface. Measures to overcome this disadvantage are discussed and demonstrated using both forward and reverse rolling measurements.
Wave exciting force and moment generate the motions of a ship in waves. Since ship motion exerts the negative influences on a crew's operability, the safety of cargos, passenger's comfort, etc, the anti-rolling devices may be required to reduce such motion In this paper, the dynamics of the anti-rolling devices such as passive and active moving weight stabilizer and anti-rolling tank, and fin stabilizer are mathematically modeled While the effect of the motion of the anti-rolling device on a ship was taken into consideration in roll mode only in the past, the 6 DOF coupled equations of motion between a ship and the anti-rolling devices are constituted Finally the motion of a ship with anti-rolling devices in waves is simulated through the developed simulation program.
To predict rolling performance for a barge-type FPSO, the evaluation of correct nonlinear roll damping is critical. The square section of FPSO causes a considerable viscous damping effect. Free roll decay tests were carried out to estimate nonlinear roll damping for a barge-type FPSO, under three different conditions. The roll motion RAO was deduced from model tests in the wave condition of the wideband spectrum. In numerical calculation, the quadratic damping was considered as equivalent linear damping, using the results of free roll decay test. Tested roll performance in the JONSWAP wave spectrum was compared with numerical results. These two results shaw good agreement, in spite of the proximity of peak wave period and roll natural period.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the roll damping characteristics by bilge keels on the fishing vessel. Unlike other degree of freedom motions, roll motion is highly nonlinear. However the quantitative evaluation of roll damping combined with waves is very important for the fishing vessel. To reduce roll motion, roll motion stabilizers such as a bilge keel is used due to easy made and cheap cost rather than anti-rolling tank and fin-stabilizer. Authors paid attention to the shape of bilge keel and waves to grasp the roll damping for the fishing vessel and studied about the difference of tendencies of roll angle following the shapes of bilge keel. The model ship was the offshore large purse seiner and four types of bilge keel were used. The data from the experiments were provided and analyzed to investigate the rolling characteristics of the model ship being affected by the wave height, wave period and bilge keel shape. The results of the study showed that three types of the bilge keel have little effective, but only one has an effect on the roll damping. So bilge keel shape and its attachment method need to be a future study for the practical use in fishing vessel.
The performance of a wave energy converter (WEC) that uses the rolling motion of a partially submerged pendulum plate in front of a quay wall was analyzed. The wave exciting moment and hydrodynamic moment were obtained using a matched eigenfunction expansion method (MEEM) based on the linear potential theory, and then the roll motion response of a pendulum plate, time averaged extracted power, and efficiency were investigated. The optimal PTO damping coefficient was suggested to give the optimal extracted power. The peak value of the optimal extracted power occurs at the resonant frequency. The resonant peak and its width increase as the submergence depth of the pendulum plate decreases and thickness of the pendulum plate increases. An increase in the wave incidence angle reduces the efficiency of the wave energy converter. In addition, the WEC using a rolling pendulum plate contributes not only to the extraction of the wave energy, but also to a reduction in the waves reflected from the quay wall, which helps to stabilize ships going near the quay wall.

The preliminary study was carried out to utilize the rolling porous pendulum plate as a hybrid system combining blocking and extracting of wave energy. The Galerkin method suggested by Porter and Evans (1995) was used to solve the diffraction and radiation problems to obtain reflection and transmission coefficient, roll displacement, extracted power. The Galerkin method provides better convergence than the matched eigenfunction expansion method (MEEM), which improves the accuracy of the analytical solution even if the CPU time is shorter. The porous plate can not be said to be more effective than the impermeable plate in terms of wave energy extraction and wave blocking, but it has the advantage of reducing the wave load and exchanging seawater.

Hydrodynamic moments produced by the rolling oscillation on the free surface and the associated swaying force were exactly calculated by Ursell-Tasai method for the cylinders with Kim's chine form sections($a_1,\;a_7$). The coefficient of the added moment of inertia $K_{\varphi^{\tau}}$, the progressive wave height ratio $\bar{A}$, the coefficient of swaying forces $K_{RS}$, ${\alpha}_{RS}$ of rolling oscillations are shown in the several figures. The results of the computation were compared with those of lewis form sections. It is concluded that the effect of the section form on the added moment of inertia is significant for the cylinder with the section of same beam-draft ratio and sectional area coefficient, on the other hand, a little effect appears on the wave damping.
To find the influence of incident angle of wave on the moment of 3 storied steel moment resisting frame which is placed on the concrete rectangular pontoon, the fluid dynamic analysis is carried out, varying the period of wave from 5 to 15 second by 2 seconds. As increasing incident angle of wave to longitudinal axis, the influence of RAO-rolling is increased. The moment of longitudinal frame is increased apparently by the wave pressure when the incident angle is $0^{\circ}$. And the moment of the frame due to the wave pressure is decreased as the incident angle is increased. But the moment of frame due to acceleration caused from pitching and rolling is increased. It is shown that the increased moment when incident angle is $90^{\circ}$ is much greater than that of incident angle $0^{\circ}$.

The stochastic nonlinear dynamic behavior and probability density function of ship rolling are studied using the nonlinear dynamical systems approach and probability theory. The probability density function of the rolling response is evaluated through solving the Fokker Planck Equation using the path integral method based on a Gauss-Legendre interpolation scheme. The time-dependent probability of ship rolling restricted to within the safe domain is provided and capsizing is investigated from the probability point of view. The random differential equation of ships' rolling motion is established considering the nonlinear damping, nonlinear restoring moment, white noise and colored noise wave excitation.

This study investigated the dominant frequency of the elastic waves from the tensile test. The specimen was rolled with five different rolling degrees (10, 22, 33, 42 and 50%), which was treated subzero. The specimen was rolled at room temperature, which was transformed from austenite to martensite (only α'-martensite). The dominant frequency increased with an increase in the rolling degree regardless of the subzero temperature, and decreased after 33% of the rolling degree. On the other hand, higher frequency band was obtained at lower temperature and long time. The dominant frequency increased when the amount of α'-martensite increased and decreased with the α'-martensite amount between 50-65%. The lower subzero treatment temperature increased the amount of α'-martensite, which resulted in the higher dominant frequency. The longer treatment time at the same subzero temperature led to an increase in the amount of α'-martensite, leading to high dominant frequency.
