Assessment of the Resistance Performance of Hull Appendages Attached to Fishing Vessels Using CFD (CFD에 의한 어선 선체 부가물의 저항성능 평가)

  • A variety of appendages are attached to coastal and offshore fishing boats to improve stability during navigation or fishing operations (stability performance and roll reduction). These appendages are generally classified into three types, which are shown in Fig. 1. The numerical calculations were conducted for the following eight cases: one case of a bare hull, three cases where a single appendage attached, three cases of a pair of appendages attached, and one case where all three appendages were attached. Table 1 presents the main dimensions of the bare hull and Table 2 describes the main dimensions of the three appendages. The fluid dynamic performance with regard to the three hull appendages was evaluated via CFD for the following cases: each of the appendages attached independently, a pair of appendages attached, and all three appendages attached simultaneously. The No. 1 appendage showed that pressure resistance was proportionally greater than friction resistances. Both Nos. 2 and 3 appendages showed comparable levels of pressure and friction resistances. The correlation between appendages was minimal in the case of pairs and Comparing the cases of the No. 2 appendage attached and all appendages attached, at 11 kn, the EHP showed an difference of 9 %.

Vacuum Web-coater with High Speed Surface Modification Equipment for fabrication of 300 mm wide Flexible Copper Clad Laminate (FCCL) (초고속 대면적 표면 처리 장치가 부착된 300 mm 폭 연성 동박적층 필림 제작용 진공 웹 코터)

  • Prototype of $800{\ell}$ vacuum web coater (Vic Mama) consisting of ion source with low energy less than 250 eV for high speed surface modification and 4 magnetron sputter cathodes was designed and constructed. Its performance was evaluated through fabricating the adhesiveless flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL). Pumping speed was monitored in both upper noncoating zone pumped down by 2 turbo pumps with 2000 l/sec pumping speed and lower surface modification and sputter zone vacuumed by turbo pumps with 450 1/sec and 1300 1/sec pumping speed respectively. Ion current density, plasma density, and uniformity of ion beam current were measured using Faraday cup and the distribution of magnetic field and erosion efficiency of sputter target were also investigated. With the irradiation of ion beams on polyimide (Kapton-E, $38{\mu}m$) at different fluences, the change of wetting angle of the deionized water to polyimide surface and those of surface chemical bonding were analyzed by wetting anglometer and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After investigating the deposition rate of Ni-Cr tie layer and Cu layer was investigated with the variations of roll speed and input power to sputter cathode. FCCL fabricated by sputter and electrodeposition method and characterized in terms of the peel strength, thermal and chemical stability.

Design Optimization for Kinematic Characteristics of Automotive Suspension considering Constraints (구속조건을 고려한 자동차 현가장치 기구특성의 최적설계)

  • This paper deals with the design optimization of the kinematic characteristics of an automotive suspension system. The kinematic characteristics of the suspension determine the attitude of the wheels, such as the toe and camber, which not only relates to tire wear during driving, but also greatly affects the control of the vehicle and its stability, which corresponds to the motion performance of the vehicle. Therefore, it is very important to determine the characteristics of the suspension mechanism at the initial stage of the design. In this study, a displacement analysis is performed to determine the kinematic properties of the suspension for the McPherson strut suspension. For this purpose, a set of constraint equations for the joints constituting the suspension mechanism was established and a program was developed to solve them. We also used ADS, a design optimization program, to obtain the desired kinematic characteristics of the suspension. As the design variables for optimization, we used the coordinates of the hard points, which are the points of attachment of the suspension to the vehicle body, and are defined as the summation of the toe-in for the up and down movement of the wheel as the objective function. As the constraint functions, the maximum camber angle and minimum roll center height, which are design requirements, are considered. As a result of this study, it was possible to determine the optimal locations of the hard points that satisfy both constraint functions and minimize the change of the toe-in.

Development of a Self Balancing Electric Wheelbarrow (자기 균형 기능이 있는 외발 전동 손수레 개발)

  • In this paper, a new type of electric wheelbarrow is proposed and developed. The developed electric wheelbarrow is equipped with an attitude reference system(ARS) sensor, which consists of 3-axis acceleration sensor and 2-axis Gyro sensor so that it can estimate pitch angle and roll angle. When an operator tilts the wheelbarrow up and down, the pitch angle is detected. The sign of the pitch angle is interpreted as the operator's intention for moving the wheelbarrow forward or backward and the controller drives the wheel of the wheelbarrow with the velocity according to the magnitude of the detected pitch angle. A cargo box of the wheelbarrow is designed to rotate and is controlled to maintain level always, so an operator can handle the electric wheelbarrow easily and safely. The wheelbarrow consists of an in-wheel motor, a DC motor, motor drives, an ARS sensor considering economical use in industrial field. Three experiments are performed to verify the feasibility and stability of the electric wheelbarrow.

Performance Assessment of Navigation Seakeeping for Coastal Liquified-Natural-Gas Bunkering Ship (연안선박용 LNG 벙커링 전용선박의 내항성능 평가에 대한 연구)

  • Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea is trying to support the "Building Project for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering Ship," centered on the Korea Gas Corporation, while the Ministry of Maritime Af airs and Fisheries is pushing to construct an LNG bunkering terminal at Busan New Port. LNG bunkering ships are essential for supplying LNG fuel from the terminal to the ships, resulting in the need for safety operation procedures. Therefore, in this study, the stability of a coastal LNG bunkering ship operating from Busan New Port to the anchorage in Busan Port was assessed to investigate the need for operational procedures for coastal LNG bunkering ships. Seakeeping analysis of the LNG bunkering ship was performed for each significant wave height by combining the response amplitude operator from the ship motion analysis under the potential flow theory with the actual observed sea data for five years and Texel, Marsen, and Arsloe (TMA) spectrum suitable for the Busan coast. The results showed that the roll and horizontal acceleration were the main risks that affected the navigation seakeeping performance above a significance wave height of 2 m. The operational periods of the LNG bunkering ship ranged from 83.3% to 99.9% of the total observation period.

Comparison of Characteristics of Electrodeposited Lithium Electrodes Under Various Electroplating Conditions (다양한 전착조건에서 제작된 리튬 전극의 특성 연구)

  • A lithium is the lightest metal on the earth. It has some attractive characteristics as a negative electrode material such as a low reduction potential (-3.04 V vs. SHE) and a high theoretical capacity ($3,860mAh\;g^{-1}$). Therefore, it has been studied as a next generation anode material for high energy lithium batteries. The thin lithium electrode is required to maximize the efficiency and energy density of the battery, but the physical roll-press method has a limitation in manufacturing thin lithium. In this study, thin lithium electrode was fabricated by electrodeposition under various conditions such as compositions of electrolytes and the current density. Deposited lithium showed strong relationship between process condition and its characteristics. The concentration of electrolyte affects to the shape of deposited lithium particle. As the concentration increases, the shape of particle changes from a sharp edged long one to a rounded lump. The former shape is favorable for suppressing dendrite formation and the elec-trode shows good stripping efficiency of 92.68% (3M LiFSI in DME, $0.4mA\;cm^{-2}$). The shape of deposited particle also affected by the applied current density. When the amount of current applied gets larger the shape changes to the sharp edged long one like the case of the low concentration electrolyte. The combination of salts and solvents, 1.5M LiFSI + 1.5M LiTFSI in DME : DOL [1 : 1 vol%] (Du-Co), was applied to the electrolyte for the lithium deposition. The lithium electrode obtained from this electrolyte composition shows the best stripping efficiency (97.26%) and the stable reversibility. This is presumed to be due to the stability of the surface film induced by the Li-F component and the DOL effect of providing film flexibility.
