A Characteristics of Heat Affected Zones of the Damaged Rod Type Cast Steel Coupler According to Repair Weldment Conditions (손상된 Rod Type Coupler 주강재의 보수용접에 따른 열영향부특성)

  • Cast steels have been mainly in rod type couplers which connect railway vehicles. These components, as important members, are exposed to repeat to repeated stresses and impact loading during stop and departure service for a long tie. The coupler suffers fatigue crack initiations and demage that cause need to repair weldment due to these loading conditions. Therefore, the heat affected zone of cast steel couple in rod type were evaluated in view of metallurgical weld characteristics after repair welding at laboratory. The specimens with two different welding techniques were evaluated after several welding conditions and post-heat treatments. Micro-vickers hardness and tensile tests and microstructural observations were conducted on heat affected zone of the weldment according to repair weld and post-heat treatment.

  • In this paper, a simple idea is proposed to change the compliance center of the Remote Center Compliance (RCC) by adjusting the elasticity of the Elastomer Shear Pad (ESP). To vary the elasticity of the ESP, a hole is made in the ESP along its stiffness axis, and a stiffness adjusting rod (SAR) is inserted into the hole. By adjusting the insertion depth of the rod, lateral stiffness of the ESP can be varied, and the compliance center of the VRCC can be controlled accordingly. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed idea, a prototype VRCC is designed and, the position of the compliance center with various lengths of the inserted rod are measured.

  • This paper describes a prototype expert system to aid operation in rod consolidation process. The knowledgebase is composed of three database groups and 60 rules with production, and object oriented techniques that correlates database groups. The expert system is designed to track the transitions of nuclear materials through the operation areas of the rod consolidation process, to diagnose current status in any operating conditions, normal and off-normal, and to advise operators to properly recover off-normality. The expert system can give efficient management of nuclear material accountability and process operation in the rod consolidation.

  • The propose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional external power in 2-dimensional impinging air jet. The passive heat transfer augmentation method tried in this experimental study is placement of rod bundles with the clearance, 2mm, in front of the heat transfer surface. The effects of pitch distance among rods and nozzle-to-target plate distance are investigated. The overall heat transfer rate of flat plate with rods reaches maximum at H/B=10 and P=40mm, and for H/B=2 and P=40mm the augmentation rate of heat transfer becomes maximum to a value which is about 1.57 times that of the flat plate without rods.

  • In this investigation, fracture mechanism of the pre-cracked beams strengthened with FRP-Rod and GSP(Glass Fiber-Steel Plate) were experimentally studied by the repeating load test according to the three different loading speeds. In the experiments, it was identified that pre-crack in the damaged beams led the significant fracture type of the strengthened beams and loading speed did not influence the behaviors of the fractures. On the other hand, strengthened beams by GSP have more large increasing effects of the strength comparing to beams strengthened with FRP-Rod, but they have a brittle behaviors in fracture.

  • This paper describes the touch voltages and potential distributions according to the distance between distribution concrete pole and ground rod when the current is injected to a ground rod through overhead ground wire. Touch voltage is measured in four directions. The touch voltage and ground potential distribution per 1 A are analyzed. The touch voltage was the highest at the around surface just above the ground rod.

  • To reduce the earth resistance, earth electrode are installed horizontally or vertically in the earth. There are two kinds of vertical earth electrode methods, one is a deep-driven rod and another is slight-driven parallel rods. Bibliography have so far analyzed the earth resistance calcalation of a rod type electrode and parallel rods type for the multi-layered earth. Befor long, We are going to study earth resistance of deep-driven rod and slight-driven parallel rods in the multi-layered earth with reference to bibliography.

Oblique Impact Analysis of Long Rod Penetrator against Metallic Plate using NET3D (NET3D를 이용한 긴 관통자와 금속 판재의 경사충돌 해석)

  • Using the dynamic explicit program NET3D, oblique impact between long rod penetrator and metallic plate was analyzed. Compared with an experiment and AUTODYN-3D analysis result, the accuracy of NET3D program was examined. It was proved that NET3D program could analyze comparatively exactly oblique impact phenomenon between long rod penetrator and metallic plate. The final deformed configuration of penetrator predicted by NET3D program was more close to experimental result than commercial program AUTODYN-3D. But, in order to increase the reliability of NET3D program in the simulation of tensile fracture phenomenon, the additional research is required.

  • This paper describes the results of reliability prediction analysis of control rod control system, which is being developed as part of KNICS project. The results of reliability prediction indicate MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure) of cards for control rod control system. A purpose of reliability prediction is to evaluate MTBF of cards, identify the design drawbacks of cards, and propose design improvement to a designer to help design the more reliable control rod control system. This reliability prediction analysis used the the part count and part stress method in the basis of MIL-HDBK-217F.

  • This paper describes the results of RBD(Reliability Block Diagram) analysis of control rod control system, which is being developed as part of KNICS project. The results of RBD indicate unavailability of control cabinet for control rod control system. A purpose of RBB is to evaluate unavailability of control cabinet, identify the design drawbacks of control cabinet, and propose design improvement to a designer to help design the more reliable control rod control system. This RBD defines the logical interaction of failure within a system.
