  • A new displacement type web position control system for cold mills using QFT is presented. The control system features an inner-outer cascaded system in which the inner loop provides the position tracking control of the hydraulic system and the outer loop provides the position regulation control of the web. By the sensitivity analysis and computer simulation, it is verified that the proposed control system has better robust stability and performance than the conventional control system.

  • This paper presents an observer-based chattering free robust optimal control scheme to regulate the total power of a nuclear reactor. The non-linear model of nuclear reactor is linearized around a steady state operating point to obtain a linear model for which an optimal second order integral sliding mode controller is designed. A second order integral sliding mode observer is also designed to estimate the unmeasurable states. In order to avoid the chattering effect, the discontinuous input of both observer and controller are designed using the super-twisting algorithm. The proposed controller is realized by combining an optimal linear tracking controller with a second order integral sliding mode controller to ensure minimum control effort and robustness of the closed-loop system in the presence of uncertainties. The condition for the selection of gains of discontinuous control based on the super-twisting algorithm is derived using a strict Lyapunov function. Performance of the proposed observer based control scheme is demonstrated through non-linear simulation studies.

  • In this paper, a method of dynamic modeling and a dynamic control of a mobile robot are presented to show the superiority of the dynamic control comparing to the PD control. This dynamic model is derived from the cartesian coordinates using lagrange equations. Based upon the derived dynamic model, we implemented the dynamic control of the mobile robot using the computed torque method. Time varying non-linear friction terms are not incroporated in this dynamic model. Instead, those are considered as disturbances. This uncertainty in dynamic model of mobile robot is compensated by the outer loop controller using PD algorithm. The validity of this model and the control algorithm are confirmed through the experiments, where the dynamic control algorithm demonstrated robust velocity tracking performance against the unmodeled non-linear frictions. The superiority of this algorithm is demonstrated by comparing to classical PD control algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a new type of piezoactuator-driven valve system. The piezoceramic actuator bonded to both sides of a flexible beam surface makes a movement required to control the pressure at the flapper-nozzle of a pneumatic valve system. After establishing a dynamic model, an appropriate size of the valve system is designed and manufactured. Subsequently, a robust $H_{\infty}$ control algorithm is formulated in order to achieve accurate tracking control of the desired pressure. The controller is experimentally realized and control performance for the sinusoidal pressure trajectory is presented in time domain. The control bandwidth of the valve system, which directly represents the fastness, is also evaluated in the frequency domain.

  • In this pater, the QLQG/LTR control method is applied for the position control of the nonlinear timing belt driving sys-tem. Parameters fo the plant are identified by genetic algorithm and nonlinear elements, such as Coulomb friction and dead-zone, and quasi-linearized by RIDE method. Comparing with the LQG/LTR contro. the QLQG/LTR has similar structures of the LQG/LTR, but this method can consider nonlinear effects in designing the controller. Thus, the QLQG/LTR control system is robust to hard nonlinearities such as Coulomb friction, dead-zone, etc. Forma given hard non-linear system through experiments, it is shown that the tracking performance of the QLQG/LTR control system can be very improved that the LQF/LTR control system.

  • In this paper, a time-delayed controller for position control of humanoid robot arms is designed and implemented on a field programmable gate array(FPGA) chip. The time-delayed control algorithm is simple to implement, and robust to reject disturbances. The time-delayed control method uses the one sample time-delayed previous information to cancel out uncertainties in the system. Since the sampling time is so fast with the current hardware technology, the time-delayed controller can be implemented. However, inertia values should be correctly estimated to have the better performance. The position tracking tasks of humanoid robot arms are tested to compare performances of several control algorithms including the time-delayed controller.

  • This paper discusses the dynamic modeling and robust control development for a differentially steered mobile robot subject to wheel slip according to high load. Consideration of wheel slip is crucial for high load applications such as construction automation tasks because wheel slip acts as a severe disturbance to the system. It is shown that the uncertainty terms due to the wheel slip satisfy the matching condition for the sliding mode control design. From the full dynamic model of the mobile robot, a reduced ideal model is extracted to facilitate the control design. The sliding mode control method ensures the dynamic tracking performance for such a mobile robot. Numerical simulation shows the promise of the developed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present a magnetic levitation system which has not a gap sensor with sensor-less realization and stabilizing controller design. For measuring gap between magnet and levitated object we propose a gap sensorless method and adop two-degree-of-freedom controller for robust-ness and performence of the magnetic levitation system. From time responeses we confirm that the proposed sensorless method which can be applied to magnetic levitation system. Also the designed stabilizing controller has good disturbance rejection and reference tracking performance.

  • This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex uncertain single-input single-output nonlinear systems. The proposed method represents the nonlinear system using a Takagi-Cugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controllers with a sliding mode controller. Unlike the commonly used parallel distributed compensation technique, we can design a global stable fuzzy controller without finding a common Lyapunov function for all local control systems, and can obtain good tracking performance by using sliding mode control theory. Furthermore, stability analysis is carried out not for the fuzzy model but for the real nonlinear system with uncertainties. Duffing forced oscillation sysmte is used as an example to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes the MIMO indirect adaptive fuzzy controller to control the two-link manipulators. The input-output linearization technique, equivalent control input plus integral term, augmented error model and recursive least square adaptive law are used fer the controller. The linear type of fuzzifier-defuzzifier fuzzy logic system used for nonlinear function makes easy to farm the error model and able to follow the adaptive system approach. Such that control approach, the control system is not required joint speed and accerelation measurement and easy to implement and tune. The simulation results showed that the proposed controller has good control performance, stability, very small tracking error, decoupling, fast convergence, robust to parameter variation and load.
