When using robot manipulator to carry out autonomous tasks, the positioning accuracy of the robot manipulator relative to a reference coordinate frame is of greate importance. The task program, which is generated by off-line CAD-system and used in actual robot positioning, may cause serious amount of the absolute positioning error of the robot manipulator. In this study, a robot performance test and calibration algorithms are proposed in order to improve the absolute positioning accuracy of the robot end effector. Experiments were also carried out by utilizing the HYUNDAI Robot AE 7601 and KIM2-Tester, a three dimensional measurement system, which is developed in Robotics & Fluid Power Control Lab. at Korea Institute of Science and Technology.

Conventional robot manipulators actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as the harmonic drive have weakness in the load capacity, since the speed reducer does not have enough strength. To overcome this, a new type of the robot actuator based on the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw was proposed and constructed. Also, a new type of a revolute-jointed robot manipulator composed of the developed actuators was developed. The base axis is actuated by the motor with the conventional speed reducer, but the other axes are actuated by the proposed actuators. The kinematics and dynamics of the robot were analyzed, and the performance test of the robot was made. Through the test results, the performance of superior load capacity versus the robot weight is shown.

In this paper, a motion control algorithm is developed using a fuzzy control and the optimization of performance function, which makes a robot arm avoid an unexpected obstacle when the end-effector of the robot arm is moving to the goal position. During talc motion, if there exists no obstacle, the end-effector of the robot arm moves along the predefined path. But if these exists an obstacle and close to talc robot arm, the fuzzy motion controller is activated to adjust the path of the end-effector of the robot arm. Then, the robot arm takes the optimal posture far collision avoidance with the obstacle. To show the feasibility of the developed algorithm, numerical simulations are carried out with changing both the positions and sites of obstacles. It was concluded that the proposed algorithm gives a good performance for obstacle avoidance.
We present a cleaning robot algorithm that can be implemented on low-cost robot architecture while the cleaning performance far exceeds the conventional random style cleaning through human-robot interaction. We clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the two notable cleaning robot styles: the random and the mapping styles, and show the possibility how we can achieve the performance of the complicated mapping style under the random style-like robot architecture using the idea of human-aided cleaning algorithm. Experimental results are presented to show the performance.
The emotional interface is essential technology for the robot to provide the proper service to the user. In this research, we developed emotional components for the service robot such as a neural network based facial expression recognizer, emotion expression technologies based on 3D graphical face expression and joints movements, considering a user's reaction, behavior selection technology for emotion expression. We used our humanoid robots, AMI and AMIET as the test-beds of our emotional interface. We researched on the emotional interaction between a service robot and a user by integrating the developed technologies. Emotional interface technology for the service robot, enhance the performance of friendly interaction to the service robot, to increase the diversity of the service and the value-added of the robot for human. and it elevates the market growth and also contribute to the popularization of the robot. The emotional interface technology can enhance the performance of friendly interaction of the service robot. This technology can also increase the diversity of the service and the value-added of the robot for human. and it can elevate the market growth and also contribute to the popularization of the robot.

Recently, the small-size mobile robots with remote-control are rapidly growth which market of mobile is increased in the world. Especially, the smart-phones are widely used for interface device in the small size of a mobile robot. The research goal is control system design which is applied to miniaturization of a mobile robot using smart-phone and it can be confirmed performance for designed system. Meanwhile, the fabrication of mini-mobile robot can also be remote-control operation through the WIFI performance of a smart-phone. The smart-phone is used to remote-control for robot operation which control data transmit to robot via the WIFI network. To drive the robot, we can observe by the smart-phone screen and it can easily adjust the robot drive condition and direction by smart-phone button. Consequentially, there was no malfunction and images were printed out well. However, in drive, because of blind spot, robot was bumped into obstacle. Therefore, the additional test is necessary to sensor for blind spot which sensor can be equipment to mobile robot. In addition, the experiment with robot object recognition is needed.

Unmanned military vehicles (UMVs) are most commonly characterized as dealing with dull, dirty, and dangerous tasks with automation. Although most of the UMVs are designed to a high degree of autonomy, the human operator will still intervene in the robot's operation, and teleoperate them to achieve his or her mission. Thus, operator capacity, together with robot autonomy and user interface, is one of the most important design factors in the research and development of the UMVs. Further, communication may affect the operator task performance. In this paper, we analyze the operator performance and the communication effects on the operator performance by using the extended Petri nets, called OTSim nets. The OTSim nets was designed by the authors, being extended using pure Petri nets.
A differential drive wheeled robot is a kind of mobile robot suitable for indoor navigation. Model predictive control is an optimal control technique with various advantages and can achieve excellent performance. One of the main advantages of model predictive control is that it can easily handle constraints. Therefore, it deals with realistic constraints of the mobile robot and achieves admirable performance for trajectory tracking. In addition, the intention of the robot can be properly realized by adjusting the weight of the cost function component. This control technique is applied to the local planner of the navigation component so that the mobile robot can operate in real environment. Using the Robot Operating System (ROS), which has transcendent advantages in robot development, we have ensured that the algorithm works in the simulation and real experiment.
The nonlinear behavior and the high performance requirement are the main problems that appear in the design of manipulator robots and their controllers. For that reason, the simulation, real-time execution and comparison of the performance of controllers applied to a robot with three degrees of freedom are presented. Five controllers are prepared to test the robot's dynamic model: predictive; hyperbolic sine-cosine; sliding mode; hybrid composed of a predictive + hyperbolic sine-cosine controller; and adaptive controller. A redundant robot, a communication and signal conditioning interface, and a simulator are developed by means of the MatLab/Simulink software, which allows analyzing the dynamic performance of the robot and of the designed controllers. The manipulator robot is made to follow a test trajectory which, thanks to the proposed controllers, it can do. The results of the performance of this manipulator and of its controllers, for each of the three joints, are compared by means of RMS indices, considering joint errors according to the imposed trajectory and to the controller used.
Cutting process has been automated due to progress of CNC and CAD/CAM, but polishing process has been only depended on experiential knowledge of expert. Polishing work for a curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations but requires much time for its high precision. Therefore it is operated in the handiwork by skilled worker. However the workers intend to avoid gradually polishing work because of the poor environments such as dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and solve the problem of shortage of skilled workers, it has been done some research for an automation of polishing. To automate the polishing process, a 2 axes polishing robot which is attached to a 3 axes machining center has been developed by our previous research. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal on the curved surface of die. Therefore its performance of polishing is improved because of always keeping the tool normal on the surface. In this paper, the smaller sized polishing robot is developed to improve polishing performance. And the controller for 2 axes polishing robot is developed. The controller is composed of TMS320C31 with high speed which is 40-ns instruction cycle time, RAM memory with 64K words, digital input with 64 bits, digital output with 32 bits, and D/A converter with 4 channels, which is 12 bits resolution. To evaluate polishing performance of this developed robot, polishing experiment for shadow mask was carried out.
