  • In this paper, it is proposed the adaptive-sliding mode control technique which is new approach to implement the robust control of industrial robot manipulator with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Over the past decade, the design of advanced control systems for industrial robotic manipulators has been a very active area of research and two major design categories have emerged. Sliding mode control is a well-known technique for robust control of uncertain nonlinear systems. The robustness of sliding model controllers can be shown in continuous time, but digital implementation may not preserve robustness properties because the sampling process limits the existence of a true sliding mode. Adaptive control algorithm is designed by using the principle of the model reference adaptive control method based upon the hyperstability theory. The proposed control scheme has a simple structure is computationally fast and does not require knowledge of the complex dynamic model or the parameter values of the manipulator or the payload. Simulation results how that the proposed method not only improves the performance of the system but also reduces the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Consequently, it is expected that the new adaptive sliding mode control algorithm will be suited for various practical applications of industrial robot control system.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of neural control system using digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness. Robotic manipulators have become increasingly important in the field of flexible automation. High speed and high-precision trajectory tracking are indispensable capabilities for their versatile application. The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The TMS320C31 is used in implementing real time neural control to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In this control scheme, the networks introduced are neural nets with dynamic neurons, whose dynamics are distributed over all the network nodes. The nets are trained by the distributed dynamic back propagation algorithm. The proposed neural network control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the neural controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.

  • In this paper, the dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator has been studied for producing of the high concentration ozone gas. Proposed plasma generator has the structure of extremely narrow discharge air gap(0.15mm) in order to realize the high electric field discharge. We investigate the performance of the dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator experimentally and the results show that the generator has very high ozone concentration characteristics of 13.7[wt%/$O_2$] at the oxygen flow rate of 1[${\ell}$/min] of each discharge cell. So, we confirmed that the proposed plasma generator is suitable for the high concentration ozone production facility of the eco-friendly ozone functional water cleaning system in the electronic components cleaning process.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. A fuzzy logic composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In tile synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult, SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules.

  • Parallel robots are usually used for performing pick-and-place motion to increase productivity in high-speed environments. The present study proposes a high-speed parallel robot and a control approach to improve the tracking performance for the purpose of handling a solar cell. However, the target processes are not limited to the solar cell-handling field. Therefore, a delta-type parallel manipulator is designed, and a ball joint structure is specifically proposed to increase the allowed angle that would meet the required workspace. A control algorithm considering the synchronization between multiple joints in a closed-chain mechanism is also suggested to improve the tracking performance, where the tracking and synchronization errors are simultaneously considered. In addition, a prototype machine with the proposed ball joint is implemented. A satisfactory tracking performance is achieved by applying the proposed control algorithm, with a cycle time of 0.3 s for a 0.1 kg payload.

  • In this paper, the robust control scheme with the improved control performance within the boundary layer is proposed. In the control scheme, the robust controller based on the traditional variable structure control method is modified to have the adaptation within the boundary layer. From this controller, the width of the boundary layer where the robust control input is smoothened out can be given by an appropriate value. But the improved control performance within the boundary layer can be achieved without the so-called control chattering because the role of adaptive control is to compensate for the uncovered portions of the robust control occurred from the continuous approximation within the boundary layer Simulation tests for circular navigation of an underwater wall-ranging robot developed for inspection of wall surfaces in the research reactor, TRIGA MARK III, confirm the performance improvement. • This paper deals with a strategy of gain optimization for the kinematic control algorithm of a wire-driven surgical robot. The proposed controller consists of the closed-loop inverse kinematics with the back-calculation method. The closed-loop inverse kinematics has 18 PID control gains, and the back-calculation method has 6 gains. An efficient strategy is designed to optimize 18 values first and then the remaining 6 values. The optimal gain sets are searched under the step input with performance indices. In this gain optimization, the objective function is defined as the minimum value of signal-to-noise ratio of the performance indices for 6 DoF (Degree-of-Freedom) motion that is based on the Taguchi method, and the constraints are applied to obtain stable responses for each motion evenly. The gain sets obtained are verified by simulations using the test trajectories. In comparative results, the optimal gain value based on the performance index combined with ISE (integral of square error) and settling time showed the best control performance.

  • This paper proposes a quasi-optimal linear DOA (Direction-of-Arrival) estimator which is necessary for the development of a real-time robot auditory system tracking moving acoustic source. It is well known that the use of conventional nonlinear filtering schemes may result in the severe performance degradation of DOA estimation and not be preferable for real-time implementation. These are mainly due to the inherent nonlinearity of the acoustic signal model used for DOA estimation. This motivates us to consider a new uncertain linear acoustic signal model based on the linear prediction relation of a noisy sinusoid. Using the suggested measurement model, it is shown that the resultant DOA estimation problem is cast into the NCRKF (Non-Conservative Robust Kalman Filtering) problem [12]. NCRKF-based DOA estimator provides reliable DOA estimates of a fast moving acoustic source in spite of using the noise-corrupted measurement matrix in the filter recursion and, as well, it is suitable for real-time implementation because of its linear recursive filter structure. The computational efficiency and DOA estimation performance of the proposed method are evaluated through the computer simulations.

  • According to the Korea Robotics Industry Association, the number of robots companies, sales and production are steadily increasing until 2016, and the global robot market outlook is expected to continue to increase until 2025. We need to develop more attention to robots that can make life easier for us and can replace human tasks that we cannot do. It is predicted that robots will be more developed in the future with the above statistics, and future robots will be more activated by robots that can depend on each other, fix each other, and adapt to the changing environment without humans. Therefore, the shape of the robots in the future will be developed as a group robot(swarmbot) that cooperate with each other while the robot works. These robots have been studied for a longtime, but there are only two community robots that are applied in real life, only two of which are jailbreaking robots made in KAIST and KIVA robots made in Amazon company. In the future, as these robots develop more and more, and environment where robots can live without human intervention is created, so that a plurality of robots can collaborate and do individual work.

  • A pressure compensated chamber of a pilot mining robot isolates and protects an electrical-electronic system from the ambient highly pressured water. Since the inner pressure of the chamber is compensated with outer water pressure using hydraulic oil and pressure compensator, there exists a pressure difference, less than 1 bar, between outer and inner surface. The structural safety of the chamber is obtained relatively easier than the canister type which inner pressure is kept as the atmospheric pressure. However, due to the adoption of box shape for space efficiency and usage of the transparent engineering plastic viewport for checking inner circumstance, the viewport can be largely deformed. This large deformation can cause an additional tensile force, called the prying force, to the bolt-flange connection parts of the viewport. In this paper, we suggest the structural design equation considering the prying action for designing the structure of a box-shape pressure compensated chamber.
