  • In this paper, we propose the color-temperature conversion system with compensated X-chromaticity coordinate. It uses a linear regression to improve the error of color-temperatue calculation in conventional systems. It also extend the color-temperature range from 1,667K to 25,000K to Provide a wider color-temperature range. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing the performance of the proposed method with those of the Robertson's and the existing methods. The proposed method is experimetally verified by displaying the results on a TV system through the Xilinx FPGA XCV2000E-BG560.

  • In this study, the method by Robertson which has been most commonly used for classifying soils, using piezocone test results, was compared with that by Schneider which was most recently proposed. Both methods were applied to the soils in Gyeonggi province and the classifying results were investigated. It has been found that the difference between the results according to the methods was not so large and Schneider's method showed slightly better results for clay region and vice versa. Such factors as large field database, normalized tip resistance, pore water pressure, and drain condition were found to need further research for more reliable soil classification.

  • In this Paper, we propose the color-temperature conversion method using an one-dimensional illuminant chromaticity. It also presents the design and the implementation of the proposed method. The performance of the method is compared with that of two-dimensional conversion method in Robertson's algorithm based on calculated color temperatures. The proposed method is demonstrated experimentally for color temperatures in the range of 3,000OK to 25,000OK with the Xilinx Virtex-E FPGA XCV2000E-6BG560.

  • Recently, adjustable CCT(Correlated Color Temperature) luminaire for the human circadian rhythm and room atmosphere has been developed. Accurate CCT control is needed in the luminaire for the human circadian rhythm. Therefore, appropriate CCT calculation method for each of fluorescent lamps and white LEDs was examined using three CCT calculation methods in this study. To make accurate CCT combination, CCT for two different CCT lamps was separately measured. And this study compared and analyzed proportionally calculated CCT value with measured value from the compounded luminaire with the two lamps.

  • Recently, probiotics is applied for aquaculture management as an alternative method of antibiotics. Probiotics is defined as a live microbial feed supplement which a good effect to the host animal by improving its microbial condition of gastrointestinal tract (Fuller, 1989). Generally, probiotics affect growth and survival of cultured fish, water quality, immune system and so on (Rengpipat et al, 2000, Robertson et al, 2000). (omitted)

  • This paper introduces an encoder design method of Turbo TCM (Trellis Coded Modulation) with symbol puncturing. TTCM consists of two simple trellis codes in parallel and modulator. To obtain an good encoder, we calculate the free distance by the assumption that the punctured symbol is transmitted from the subset that consist of signals with the same systematic bit at random. We develop a search program to find the component encoder which maximize the free distance. Especially, for 8-PSK with code rate 2/3, we search for the component codes. We find a new encoder which has better BER performance than that of Robertson′s encoder. We verify the results through the simulation."

  • Molecular imprinting, which was first proposed by Wulff and Sarhan in 1972 [1], is a facile way to construct molecular recognition sites by applying a simple radical polymerization [2]. Since 1994, the authors have proposed an alternative molecular imprinting method in which polymeric materials are directly converted into molecular recognition materials [3].(omitted)

  • Horizontal consolidation characteristics of Busan marine clay were investigated by computing coefficient of horizontal consolidation from Piezocone data and comparing their results with those of standard consolidation test. It is well known that current prediction models of $c_h$ for high plastic soils have large uncertainties, and show a great difference between the predicted and the measured values. However, the spherical models and expanding cavity theory of Torstensson(1977), and Burns & Mayne(1998) based on modified Cam-Clay model with critical limit state concepts have relative reliability in estimating $c_h$ and good applicability in highly plasticity soils. In this paper, a normalization technique was used to evaluate $c_h$ using the Burns and Mayne's method based on the dissipation test, and their normalized consolidation curves give 0.015 of time factor($T_{50}$) when 50% degree of consolidation is completed. Comparison study using Piezocone data obtained at other similar ground site shows 1.5 times less systematicality than that of standard consolidation test, which indicates considerable approximation with the measured values because standard consolidation test gives the difference of three to few times compared with the measured values. In addition, design chart for estimating $c_h$ based on the chart from Robertson et al.(1992) and using the other method of the direct prediction from the of dissipation test was newly proposed. It is judged that new proposed chart is very applicable to Korean marine soils, especially in very high plastic soils.

  • Predicting the settlement of soft ground is an important aspect of soft ground design. In this study, a method is proposed that increases the reliability of settlement predictions based on-site investigation data, including piezocone penetration test results, at the Gimhae-Jinyoung district, adjacent area to the Nakdong River. Soils in the area waweres classified using the Robertson Chart (1986, 1990), and theoretical settlement was calculated using the equations proposed by Terzaghi (1925) and Sanglerat (1972). SPSS was used to obtain the correlation between theoretical and measured settlements. Results produced settlement prediction errors for the Terzaghi and Sanglerat methods of 17.28% and 26.96%, respectively. A correction factor calculated by SPSS correlation analysis for the relation between and theoretical and measured settlements is proposed that improves the reliability of settlement prediction in soils of the classification examined.
