A Study on the design of Database for photograph of Road Facilities (도로시설물 관리를 위한 Photo Database 설계에 관한 연구)

  • For effective management of information about establishment and repair of road and road facilities, we built GPS-Van mapping system that CCD Cameras, GPS receivers and INS are integrated and using it surveyed test area. Suggested a scheme that possible put acquired data into photo database systematically. Prototype of road facilities management system using the database shows us that extraction of qualitative information and management are possible through relation attribute information. And it raise cognitive faculty of user about objects using field photographs.

  • In this paper which it is relating to the DSRC system based road side equipment, we propose the protocol stack architecture of road side equipment and the process structure of the main RM, L7 and LLC layers which is road side equipment device as well. And also we design the signal flow and data-transfer process as well between road side equipment and on board equipment to describe the installation process between road side equipment and von board equipment based on DSRC system. Thus, it is possible to provide various application services between intelligent transportation systems of road side equipment and local server, as well as it enables the local server managing the memorys of on board equipment which entry in service area thru the road side equipment.

  • This study is aimed at the development of ubiquitous based road disaster management system. The fundamental technologies used for developing this system are classified into three modules - wireless internet communication module, mobile module and server module. These fundamental technologies can be used not only for developing road disaster management system but also for developing various mobile or ubiquitous systems. With this system, workers can download many DB (Digital map, Attribute information etc.) from server to the field in realtime. The accuracy and objectivity of the DB could be improved with these informations collected at fields because these data can be used as basic data for road disaster information collection. Because in the web based server module - Web based Road Disaster Management System (URDMS) - field disaster information was showed link up with exist DB on road by absolute coordinate, the decision making with all of the field information was made and it sent to a field staff in realtime. The problems of current road disaster management rule ran be solved by this URDMS.

  • After insufficient road facilities are expanded, it is more important to maintain performance of road facilities the time according to passing. When the road facilities are maintained optimally through proper maintenance, the total amount of investment can be minimized and national competitiveness is improved. Individual maintenance research of road facilities such as PMS or BMS was in progress until currently, but it is difficult to joint ownership and share information between systems, and it is impossible to use as the decision-making. Therefore, Asset Management System for road facilities is enforced to solve the inefficiency of existing systems, maintenance the road facilities systematically under the limited budget and get the maximum benefits against the cost from the view point of long-term. In this paper, the concept of Asset Management System explained, and research plan from KICT in order to introduce the Asset Management System of road facilities from 2008 hereafter for 5 years accounted.

Insights for Improving Road Safety : Focusing on Vehicle Accidents in Daegu Metropolitan City

  • Road accidents not only caused loss of human lives but also costed 3% of gross domestic product in most of the countries. The road accidents pose significant challenges to public safety and urban transportation management. There is a need to identify the high-risk area of accidents along with the critical day of week and vulnerable time period in order to implement effective preventive measures and optimizing the resource allocation. We collected 5,012 accident data from 대구교통종합정보. This study identified the high-risk locations, days of week, and time periods for accidents in Daegu and estimated the conditional probabilities of accidents occurring based on combinations of location, day of the week, and time period. The result is visualized in the form of dashboard in Tableau. This study holds substantial practical significance for urban planners, transportation authorities, and policymakers in Daegu to strategically allocate resources for traffic management, law enforcement, and targeted safety campaigns.

  • Recently, advances in mobile communication and location identifying technology of the moving object is evolving. Therefore, the location-based services based on request for service have increased and a variety of the indexing for the position management of moving objects has been studied. Because the index based on Euclidean space are no restriction of movement, it is difficult to apply to the real world. Also, there is additional cost to find adjacent road segments in road networks-based indexing. Existing studies of fixed static objects such as buildings or hospitals are not considered. In this paper, we propose an efficient road networks-based indexing for management of current positions. The proposed indexing partitions road networks by grids and has integrated road connection informations and manage separated extra indexing for fixed static objects. Through the experiment, we show that the proposed indexing based on road networks improves the performance of operation for search or update than existing indexing.

  • To construct road spatial information database, it is the main object of this study that an analysis of road factors and furthermore this is used to the rescue activities in case of urban disasters. When urban disasters such as earthquake or explosion cause fire and collapses people of the affected region happen to evacuate. But only to manage roads and monitor traffic volume, the road data is designed and managed using digital topographic map so it is short that the design of road spatial data to prevent disasters. In this study, we tried to suggest the evaluative factors of evacuation to design database : road width, traffic volume, the fixed or movable obstacles installed, the surrounding environments that dominate the land-use planning, the uses, materials, structures, sizes, and densities of the buildings. Thus, these could provide fundamental data to determine the disasters management planning for evacuation and rescue activities, to evaluate the riskiness, and to draw up hazard information map.

  • A risk analysis on the cutting slope of roads near Cheongju area was carried out with the data from geological map, field investigation, and laboratory test and with the Geographic Information System. A risk analysis method on the cutting slope of road using the Geographic Information System was developed with the data from geological map, field investigation and laboratory tests. In the GIS, road factors which are safety factor, class of road, slake index, slope-protection works, and height of slope in the cutting slopes are classified into some ranks, and their weighting factors were taken into account. This method can be applied effectively to a road management.

  • According as the drivers increase who have their cars, the comprehensive studies on the automobile for the traffic safety have been raised as the important problems. Visual Recognition System for radio-controled driving is a part of the sensor processor of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle System. When a driver drives his car on an unknown highway or general road, it produces a model from the successively inputted road traffic information. The suggested Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board is to recognize and distinguish automatically a Road Traffic Safety Information Board as one of road traffic information. The whole processes of Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board suggested in this study are as follows. We took the photographs of Road Traffic Safety Information Board with a digital camera in order to get an image and normalize bitmap image file with a size of $200{\times}200$ byte with Photo Shop 5.0. The existing True Color is made up the color data of sixteen million kinds. We changed it with 256 Color, because it has large capacity, and spend much time on calculating. We have practiced works of 30 times with erosion and dilation algorithm to remove unnecessary images. We drawing out original image with the Region Splitting Technique as a kind of segmentation. We made three kinds of grouping(Attention Information Board, Prohibit Information Board, and Introduction Information Board) by RYB( Red, Yellow, Blue) color segmentation. We minimized the image size of board, direction, and the influence of rounding. We also minimized the Influence according to position. and the brightness of light and darkness with Eigen Vector and Eigen Value. The data sampling this feature value appeared after building the learning Code Book Database. The suggested Recognition System of the Road Traffic Safety Information Board firstly distinguished three kinds of groups in the database of learning Code Book, and suggested in order to recognize after comparing and judging the board want to recognize within the same group with Nearest Neighborhood Decision Making.

  • In this paper, a PMS(Pavement Management System) application is presented to control the LCC(Life Cycle Cost) of road pavement. The aim of this paper is to provide the decision makers with the planning information regarding maintenance strategies for efficient road pavement management. The validity of PMS application presented in this paper is investigated through case studies for conducted for 22 national highway road sections in Korea.
