  • Flooding usually brings in disruptions and aggravated congestions to the roadway network. Hence, right information should be provided to road users to avoid the flood-impacted areas and for city officials to recover the network. However, the information about individual link congestion may not be conveyed to roadway users and city officials because too many links are congested at the same time. Therefore, more significant information may be desired, especially in a disastrous situation. This information may include 1) which places to avoid during flooding 2) which places are feasible to drive avoiding flooding. Hence, this paper aims to develop a framework to identify the flood-impacted areas in a roadway network and their criticality. Various impacted clusters and their spatiotemporal properties were identified with field data. From this data, roadway users can reroute their trips, and city officials can take the right actions to recover the affected areas. The information resulting from the developed framework would be significant enough for roadway users and city officials to cope with flooding.

  • As a research hotspot, pedestrian detection has a wide range of applications in the field of computer vision in recent years. However, current pedestrian detection methods have problems such as insufficient detection accuracy and large models that are not suitable for large-scale deployment. In view of these problems mentioned above, a lightweight pedestrian detection and early warning method using a new model called you only look once (Yolov5) is proposed in this paper, which utilizing advantages of Yolov5s model to achieve accurate and fast pedestrian recognition. In addition, this paper also optimizes the loss function of the batch normalization (BN) layer. After sparsification, pruning and fine-tuning, got a lot of optimization, the size of the model on the edge of the computing power is lower equipment can be deployed. Finally, from the experimental data presented in this paper, under the training of the road pedestrian dataset that we collected and processed independently, the Yolov5s model has certain advantages in terms of precision and other indicators compared with traditional single shot multiBox detector (SSD) model and fast region-convolutional neural network (Fast R-CNN) model. After pruning and lightweight, the size of training model is greatly reduced without a significant reduction in accuracy, and the final precision reaches 87%, while the model size is reduced to 7,723 KB.

  • The proportion of agricultural products handled through the Agricultural Products Processing Center (APC) is also steadily increasing every year, and in the case of Seongju Korean melon, a total of 10 APCs of Nonghyup and farming association corporations are in operation, and the distribution ratio is about 60% based on total production. In this study, Seongju Korean melon was selected as a target to analyze the environment load during carrying (production farm ~ APC) in the production area and the transport environment load during distribution of domestic fruits, and to analyze the environmental load for handling at APC. The vertical average vibration intensity (overall Grms of 1~250 Hz) of truck transport measured at three transport routes from Seongju Korean melon producer ~ APC, Seongju ~ Seoul and Seongju ~ Jeju was about three times larger than that in the lateral direction and 4.5 times larger than that in the longitudinal direction, respectively. The frequency of occurrence of high-amplitude events (G) in the vertical direction compared to the measuring time was deeply related to pavement conditions in the order of unpaved farm-roads, concretepaved farm-roads, and asphalt-paved main-roads, but overall Grms for the entire frequency band is believed to have a greater impact on vehicle traveling speed than road conditions. On the other hand, the difference in the size and direction of the vibration intensity measured by the forklift truck's main-body and the attachment (fork carrier) during handling at Seongju Korean melon APC was clear, and the vibration intensity of the forklift truck's main-body was largely affected by the stiffness of the fork and the mast according to the handling weight. Based on the field-data of the transport environment during domestic distribution measured through this study, it is believed that it is possible to develop a lab-based simulation protocol for appropriate packaging design.

  • The technology implementation method was diversified into an 'autonomous cooperative driving' method to overcome the limitations of a stand-alone autonomous vehicle with vehicle sensor-based autonomous driving. The autonomous cooperative driving method involves exchanging information between roadside infrastructure and autonomous vehicles. In this process, the concept of dynamic information (LDM), a target of cooperation, was established. But, evaluation methods and standards for dynamic information have not been established. Therefore, this study, a dynamic information evaluation method based on information on pedestrians within the moving objects. In addition, autonomous cooperative driving was demonstrated, and dynamic information was also verified through the evaluation method. The significance of this study is that it established the dynamic information evaluation methodology for autonomous cooperative driving for the first time. Based on this, this study is expected to contribute to the application of safe autonomous cooperative driving technology to the field.

  • Adopting cohesive soil as geocell-pocket infill materials is not fully accepted by researchers in the field of road engineering. The cohesion that may inhibit the lateral limitation of geocells is a common vital idea that exists within every researcher. However, the influence of infill materials' cohesion on geocell-reinforced performance is still not thoroughly determined. The mechanism behind this still needs to be studied in depth. This study initially discussed the relationship between subgrade bearing capacity, geocells' contribution to reinforced performance, and infill materials' cohesion (IMC). A law was proposed that adopting the soil with high cohesion as infill materials benefited the subgrade bearing capacity, but this was attributed to the superior mechanical properties of infill materials rather than geocells' contribution. Moreover, the vertical and lateral deformation of subgrade, coupling shear stress and confining stress of geocells, and deformation of geocells were deeply studied to analyze the mechanism that high cohesion can inhibit the geocells' contribution. The results indicate that the infill materials with high cohesion result in the total displacement of the subgrade toward to deeper depth, not the lateral direction. These responses decrease the vertical coupling shear stress, confining stress, and normal displacement of geocell walls, which weaken the lateral limitation of geocells.

  • In this study, we intended to present a class design plan that combines safety education and software education, which are very important in the school field, but are considered necessary for change. In order to realize safety education centered on indirect experience, the 12th class plan was devised as a "Smart Safety Commuter Road Production Project" using a physical computing tool called Bitbrick. Based on the 12th city's class plan, qualitative research was conducted with interviews with a total of five teachers, showing both the effectiveness and problems of applying them to the class. The effectiveness is that unlike conventional delivery-type safety education, indirect experience-oriented safety education centered on real-life situations is possible, and it can be expected that procedural thinking skills can be developed along with stimulating interest. However, the problem has been shown that the process of implementing the direct situation can be challenging and that even activities can be more efficient than group activities.

  • Field surveys were conducted at a total of 50 locations targeting naturalized plants on Ulleung-do. A total of 109 taxa were identified, including the list of naturalized plants in the preceding literature. The naturalized plants of Ulleung-do had a high proportion of Asteraceae, which appeared frequently in the habitat of the ruderal type. There were no naturalized plants that settled only on Ulleung-do, and all naturalized plants found on Ulleung-do first settled on the Korean Peninsula. This was proved by the high rates of epecophyten (90.8%) and the introduction period 2nd (70.6%). On the other hand, among ecosystem-disturbing species that have a great influence in the inland of the Korean Peninsula, Hypochaeris radicata and Rumex acetosella appeared in a limited area in Ulleung-do. On the other hand, Lapsana communis appeared in high density along the forest edge, requiring management of naturalized plants different from those in the Korean Peninsula. Naturalized plants on Ulleung-do showed a rapid increase in the 1990s after increased academic research, coastal road development, and other development projects. This highlights the necessity for continuous research on the pattern of naturalized plant occurrence after the completion of the Ulleung Airport, which is currently under construction.
