Tensile stress occurs and random crack develops in concrete pavement slab when it contracts by variation of temperature and humidity. The tensile stress decreases and the random crack is minimized by sawcutting the slab and inducing the crack with regular spacing. The random crack, joint damage, decrease of load transfer efficiency are caused by too wide joint spacing while too narrow joint spacing leads to increase of construction cost and decrease of comfort. A mechanistic-empirical joint spacing design method for the concrete pavement was developed in this study. Structurally and environmentally weakest sections were found among the sections showing good performance, and design strengths were determined by finite element analysis on the sections. The joint width for which the load transfer efficiency is suddenly lowered was determined as allowable joint with referring to existing research results. The maximum joint spacing for which the maximum tensile stress calculated by the finite element analysis did not exceed the design strength were found. And the maximum joint width expected by the maximum joint spacing were compared to the allowable joint width. The new method developed in this study was applied to two zones of Hamyang-Woolsan Expressway being designed. The same joint spacing as a test section constructed by 8.0m of joint spacing wider than usual was calculated by the design method. Very low cracking measured at 6 years after opening of the test section verified the design method developed in this study.
The purpose of this study targeting Choansan(Mt.) Neighborhood Park in Seoul of South Korea, whose level of visitation and use pressure has been recently increasingly high, was to understand distribution and damage status of forest trail and accordingly, set up direction of how to improve forest trail in urban area. With regards to current damage on forest trail in Choansan(Mt.) Neighborhood Park, the damaged trail with road width of over 2m and with erosion depth of over 30cm amounted to 20.3% and 36.3% respectively. And the trail section with bare land erosion, root exposure or rock exposure and the section whose impact rating class exceeded IV occupied 47.0% and 70.6%, indicating the forest trail was severely damaged. The severely injured trail route mainly included the main forest trail formed along the main ridge, the byroad connected to the main forest trail and the steep forest trail in low-lying area. Based on the study results, five types of restoration of forest trail in Choansan(Mt.) Neighborhood Park were offered, including prevention of forest trail extension, stabilization of forest trail base, maintenance of forest trail surface, vegetation restoration after closing forest trail and maintenance. Ecological restoration was additionally offered. The prevention of forest trail extension was planned to prevent expanded width of forest trail where bare land was exposed. The stabilization of forest trail base was planned to prevent erosion in the forest trail and exposure of roots. The maintenance of forest trail surface was planned in a way to protect the severely damaged forest trail surface by using wood deck and wood stairs and surfacing the road.

This study is to trace the change of stream shape using the past series of aortal photographs and topographic maps, and to compare the land use changes of inland along the stream. For the Gyeongan first & second class of local stream, aerial photographs of 1966, 1981 and 2000 were selected and ortho photographs were made with interior orientation and exterior orientation, respectively. In addition, topographic maps of 1914 - 1915 were used to compare with stream of 1966, 1981 and 2000. As apparent changes of the stream, the consolidated reaches of stream with levee construction were straightened and their stream width widened. Especially the stream width of inlet part of Paldang lake was widened almost twice because of the rise of water level by dam construction in 1974. The land use maps (1966, 1981, 2000) of riparian areas were also made, respectively and classified into 6 categories (water, forest, agricultural land, urban area, road, sandbar) by digitizing, The main changes of land use were agricultural land, urban area, road and sandbar.

Currently our country has very serious problems of traffic congestion and urban environment due to increasing automobile ownership. Recently, our concern about environmentally sustainable transportation and green transportation is increasing, so the government is pushing ahead the policy of bicycle using activation. So it is needed to develop a model to analyze the service level of bicycle roads more realistically. In this study, a neuro-fuzzy inference model to analyze the service level of bicycle roads was built selecting the width of bicycle roads, the number of conflicts during cycling and pedestrian volume, which have fuzzy characteristics, as input variables. The predictability of the model was evaluated comparing the surveyed and the estimated. The values of the statistics, $R^2$, MAE and MSE were 0.987, 0.142, 0.032. Therefore, It may be judged that the explainability of the model is very high. The service levels of bicyle roads estimated by the model are 1~3 steps lower than KHCM assessments. The reason may be explained that the model estimates the service level considering the width of bicycle roads and the number of conflicts simultaneously besides pedestrian volume.
We recorded the movement of wildbirds nine times at Hoam 1st Tunnel, Kkachisan Park, Deungneung pass to compare the movement between eco-corridor and neighboring crossing road from June to September, 2006. Among three areas, birds did not prefer the eco-corridor at pass type such as Kkachisan Park and Deungneung pass, however number of species and individuals were high at the eco-corridor at Hoam 1st Tunnel. Over 90m width and the slope location of eco-corridors can be beneficial for wild birds to enhance the movement along eco-corridors between isolated two patches. Average foliage volume under two meters showed the relation with bush nesters, and that from 7 to 8m had the highest relationship with canopy nesters. In Seoul city, target species should be considered at the construction of eco-corridors according to site characteristics, but Paradoxornis webbianus could be suggested as a main target species at eco-corridors. To enhance the movement of diverse wildbirds, we would implement that eco-corridors could be located at the slope area with the size of 1ha (over 90m width), eco-corridors could be planted and managed with the high foliage volume of shrub layer under twometers and canopy layer over 8 meters.

This paper presents new pedestrian signal timings considering pedestrian demand Pedestrian characteristics, and land use which were obtained by Pedestrian characteristics field survey and pedestrian signal operation survey. Pedestrian signal timings suggested were compared to the existing pedestrian signal timings by using real field data. pedestrian characteristics field survey was conducted to collect pedestrian crossing speed data and reaction time data. Sixteen areas in Seoul were selected for the data collection. The average pedestrian crossing speed was 1.30m/sec and the 15th Percentile speed was 1.11m/sec. The average reaction time was 2.24 seconds. Pedestrian crossing speed differs by land use, road width. pedestrian age, sex, and number of Pedestrians. Reaction time also differs by road width, pedestrian age, and number of pedestrians. Statistical testing was performed to secure reliability of the collected data.

Since recently exhaust gas regulation for a non-road small engine as well as commercial vehicle engine has been enforced, a carburettor of a small engine should be replaced by an electronic fuel injection system. In this study, the spray characteristics of the 400cc gasoline small engine injector has been experimentally analyzed. Based on the experimental results, suitable injector for the small engine has been selected. Through the test rig measuring spray mass distribution, fuel distribution characteristics of 3 hole- and 6 hole-injector has been analyzed. Through the visualization equipment, injector spray angle, penetration length and spray width have been measured and analyzed. Considering spray characteristics and stability, 6 hole-injector is selected for the 400cc gasoline small engine.

In an effort to preserve biodiversity in increasingly fragmented green patches, Korea has been installing eco-corridors over or under some arterial or expressways. In a survey of 43 such eco-corridors installed up until the year 2003, some problems and issues were identified. Some selected overseas eco-corridors were also investigated to find implications for the improvements of future installations in Korea. Major findings are; - For most existing eco-corridors, target species are not specified and locations of the eco-corridors are not well considered, and consequently it is questionable if wildlifes are crossing them - Most of existing eco-corridors lack supporting facilities such as fences that guide wildlife to cross them and prevent them from running into the road - Planting on the eco-corridors is not sufficient, not diverse enough in species, and not very considerate of wildlife but designed and planted in a similar manner as in urban parks - Where target species are not well specified, the location, width, cross section, and other aspects of the eco-corridors can not be optimized - It is suggested that eco-corridors are planned at early stages of road planning so that the number and locations of eco-corridor(s) decided as necessary and even the alignment and design of roads consider the installation of eco-corridors in advance - Monitoring of wildlife crossings is needed for improved eco-corridor planning and design - Nationwide green network plan is desirable to be made first and eco-corridors fit into it.

To complement inaccurate edge information and detect correctly the boundary of a vehicle in an image, an extended edge analysis technique is presented in this paper. The vehicle is detected using the bottom boundary generated by a vehicle and the road surface and the left and right side boundaries of the vehicle. The proposed extended edge analysis method extracts the horizontal edge by merging or dividing the nearby edges inside the region of interest set beforehand because various noises deteriorates the horizontal edge which can be a bottom boundary. The horizontal edge is considered as the bottom boundary and the vertical edges as the side boundaries of a vehicle if the extracted horizontal edge intersects with two vertical edges which satisfy the vehicle width condition at the height of the horizontal edge. This proposed algorithm is more efficient than the other existing methods when the road surface is complex. It is proved by the experiments executed on the roads having various backgrounds.
PURPOSES : The noise, which is typically generated by fast moving vehicles, can be intercepted by installing a noise barrier with a soundproof panel. However, reflections from the panels cause secondary noise, and hence lower the effectiveness of the panels. In this study, the reduction of reflection noise by considering the shape, especially zigzag one, of the soundproof panel have been evaluated. METHODS : The simulation model used in this study was Nord2000, which simulates real-road situations effectively. Based on the simulation results, the joining angle of $133^{\circ}$ with the pattern width (a) equal to 2 m and the projection height (b) equal to 0.5 m was adapted in the zigzag shape as the best profit designing factors. RESULTS: The measuring results at middle height, 15 m showed reduction at all points except the point with average -1.6 dB. At a greater height of 30 m, 2 points showed reduction. A real-sized facility was constructed to investigate the reflected sound from a zigzag shaped panel up to the height of 5 m. CONCLUSIONS: The reduction effects were detected in all the receive points in the range of 2-6 m distances and 1-5 m heights comparing the plane panel. Compared to plane panel, the noises are reduced at an average of 2.4 dBA.
