This study pertains to the extraction of the road noise component of signals from a vehicle's interior noise via the traditional frequency domain and time domain system identification methods. For road noise extraction based on the frequency domain system identification method, the appropriate matrix inversion strategy is investigated and causal and non-causal impulse response filters are compared. Furthermore, appropriate data lengths for the frequency domain system identification method are investigated. In addition to the traditional road noise extraction methods based on frequency domain system identification, a new approach to extract road noise via the time domain system identification method based on a parametric input-output model is proposed and investigated in the present study. In this approach, instead of constructing a higher order model for the full-band road noise, input and output signals are processed in the subband domain and lower order parametric models optimal to each subband are determined. These parametric models are used to extract road noises in each subband; the full band road noise is then reconstructed from the subband road noises. This study shows that both the methods in the frequency domain and the time domain successfully extract the road noise from the vehicle's interior noise.

This paper presents a study on the system identification of the in-situ output shaft torque measurement system using a non-contacting magneto-elastic torque transducer installed in a vehicle drivline. The frequency response (transfer) function (FRF) analysis is conducted to interpret the dynamic interaction between the output shaft torque and road side excitation due to the road roughness. In order to identify the frequency response function of vehicle driveline system, two power spectral density (PSD) functions of two random signals: the road roughness profile synthesized from the road roughness index equation and the stationary noise torque extracted from the original torque signal, are first estimated. System identification results show that the output torque signal can be affected by the dynamic characteristics of vehicle driveline systems, as well as the road roughness.

The road name address is a two-dimensional location marking method for naming each road and assigning a number to each building. However, the road name address only shows the necessary parts for administrative and legal acts, and it does not properly display the main characteristics of various roads and non-residential areas. This has become more and more difficult to standardize different location identification methods, merely as a separate location identification method. This paper proposes road-based 3D location identification code to overcome the difficulties of integrating different location identification methods in Korea and to overcome the limit of 2D plane. This is a method to integrate various location identification methods based on roads and to identify spatial coordinates. It is a study on 3D digital coding of the land suitable for the 4th Industrial Revolution era.

It is important for identification of noise and vibration problem of tire to consider influence of interaction between road and tire. A quantification of road noise is a challenging issue in vehicle NVH due to extremely complicated transfer paths of road noise as well as the difficulty in an experimental identification of input force from tire-road interaction. A noise caused by tire is divided into road noise(structure-borne noise) and pattern noise(air-borne noise). Pattern noise is caused by pattern shape of tire, which has larger than 500 Hz, but road noise is generated by the interactions between a tire and a vehicle body. In this paper, we define the quantitative analysis for road noise caused by interactions between tire and road parameters. For the identification of road noise, the chassis dynamometer that is equipped $10mm{\times}10mm $ square cleat in the semi-anechoic chamber is used, and the tire spindle forces are measured by load cell. The vibro-acoustic transfer function between ear position and wheel center was measured by the vibro-acoustic reciprocity method. In this study three tires with different type of mechanical are used for the experiment work.

The purpose of this study is to identify the risk factors, analyze the risk factors and make a risk check list of survey in road construction. Generally. the risk management is consisted of 3 steps: risk identification, Risk analysis, Risk hedge. This study is focused on the identification of risk and analysis of risk. To identify the risk factors of survey, we used the specifications of road construction, law of survey, and check list of road construction. This study provides the risk check list of survey for road construction. This research was undertaken to analyze risk factors being determine by the FGI(Focus Group Interview) method with survey specialists.
The Imperial Road is Jean Rhys s unfinished manuscript, rejected by publishers for its openly racist tone. Although it describes Rhys s actual visit to Dominica in 1936, it is not a transparent recollection of the travel but a recreation informed by racial dynamics of the 1970s when she wrote the text. This paper examines the manuscript as a troubled (and troubling) response to what Rhys perceived as racial rejection from Dominica at the wake of political independence. Rhys s representation of white Creole womanhood significantly depends on an interwoven configuration of racial dynamics and sexual politics, where an oppressive white European man facilitates a white Creole woman s cross-racial identification with Afro-Caribbeans. However, the political and literary landscape of the West Indies in the 1970s made such cross-racial identification untenable. As a result, The Imperial Road is full of disturbing racial hatred, prejudice, and resentment. And yet, it also reflects Rhys s honest and serious concern over a white Creole s racial identity in postcolonial Dominica, raising a difficult question: How would a postcolonial age change a white Creole identity that belongs neither to the colonized nor to the colonizer (or both)? In The Imperial Road, unable to identify with Afro-Caribbeans, the white Creole is disoriented in time and space, lost at home, stuck between the past and the present, not knowing how to participate in a postcolonial homeland. Through the narrator s racial disorientation, The Imperial Road exposes the white Creole s fundamental dependence on other Creoles.

In this paper, a semi-active suspension adapting to road variation which also considers the frequency snesitivity of human is proposed. First, a road adapting controller composed of system identification and LQG control is designed. Using the extended least squares method, the road property is estimated by system identification as it varies, and the LQG controller considering the estimated road property and the frequency sensitivity of human is designed. Next, the semi-active suspension is made, which tracks the performance of the active suspension with the road adapting controller. Through numerical simulation, the performance of the proposed semi-active suspension is compared with that of a non-adaptive semi-active suspension with frequency-shaped performance index. As a result, we see that the road adapting semi-active suspension has better performance.
PURPOSES : Ambiguous decision on whether rural or urban area for road design can increase the construction cost and restrict the land use of surrounding area. However, administrative classification on rural and urban area is not directly related to road design because of this classification is not based on the engineering viewpoint, so method which can explain the road design context is required. METHODS : Method which enables to identify the area for road design is suggested based on the deceleration expected to be experienced by drivers who use the road section concerned. Deceleration rate corresponding to the area such as rural or urban suggested in Road Design Guideline is used as the criteria to identify the area by comparing this value with the estimated deceleration rate at the road section concerned. Speed profile method is utilized to derive the deceleration rate, and speed estimation way for reflecting both road geometry and intersection is suggested using stopping sight distance concept. RESULTS : The procedure of the method application is suggested, and the design example utilizing the method is provided. CONCLUSIONS : The method is expected to be used to identify the area for road design with engineering viewpoint, and design consistency among the roads with similar driving environment can be made.

A method to recognize unpaved road region using a 3D depth measurement system is proposed for mobile robots. For autonomous maneuvering of mobile robots, recognition of obstacles or recognition of road region is the essential task. In this paper, the 3D depth measurement system which is composed of a rotating mirror, a line laser and mono-camera is employed to detect depth, where the laser light is reflected by the mirror and projected to the scene objects whose locations are to be determined. The obtained depth information is converted into an image. Such depth images of the road region represent even and plane while that of off-road region is irregular or textured. Therefore, the problem falls into a texture identification problem. Road region is detected employing a simple spatial differentiation technique to detect the plain textured area. Identification results of the diverse situation of unpaved trail are included in this paper.

As the first step in developing the urban information system it is very important to identify the location of the street, and the feature of objects on it Also it is necessary to understand the relationship between objects concerned. In order to manage these information efficiently, the road information should be well organized and standardized for digital data. Because the road is the base place under which most urban utilities are buried. However, the present real situation is that even if we have unique numbers authorized by law for some parts of the road it is too ambiguous to figure out the spatial location of the specific area because the assigned area is so large and incoherent. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a road location identication scheme, to apply this scheme at Kangnam-ku Seoul, and finally to propose the guideline in developing the road management information system in Korea. The road identification scheme developed in this study are as follows: (1) The road is defined as a fixed factor, and was given the identification number which repressents the funtion, relationship, and direction of the road without the road section and absolute coordinates. (2) The parcel identification nutter was given to each route to understand it possible to understand the location of the road itself and surroundings. (3) To update the md information using the scheme developed in this study relative coordinate method(Dynamic Segmentation) based on the road centerline was applied.
