In case of the axial line bikeway, the residents in the riverside use it frequently but those in the city center hardly do as the axis is formed along the riverside of the Han river. This situation happens due to the inefficient connectivity between the bikeway that leads to the riverside and that in the city center, which means the administrative policies have been focused on the facilities rather than on raising connectivity of the bikeway networks in the south of the Han River. Also, this is the point of time when a reasonable improvement plan is needed to raise the accessibilities of the bikeways in Seoul, not just a utilization of those in the south of the Han River. This study intends to analyse the connectivity between Gangseo (west of the Han River) and Gangdong (East of the Han River) districts by comparing the current spatial structure in the southern areas of the Han River and that after the installation of the axial line, and that after installation of the ordinary bikeway respectively with use of the Space Syntax Model, and to predict resultant changes there of. The Space Syntax Model was used as the major method of analysis in this study to find out characteristics of the bikeways in the south of the Han River. Consequently, as the analysis shows that when the bikeways in the Gangseo and Gangdong-gu districts are connected, the accessibility of the bikeways in the south of the Han River will improve while the spatial structure intelligibility will be lowered, it can be said the prediction rate in the all areas is low compared with the current status. It is analyzed that the intelligibility of the current bikeways in the south of the Han River appeared highest when compared with those of plans for installation of the axial line and ordinary bikeway because they don't interconnect with other areas.

This study aims to examine what factors citizens value in urban parks and green spaces in terms of usage and aesthetic value and to find ways to deal with the changing patterns of user satisfaction for these various green elements. To achieve this, the study developed a dynamic model employing a transactional approach to evaluate environmental quality for 1999 and 2007 in Anyang City as well as a conceptual model of parks and greens satisfaction. This study relied on an empirical study method including the 1999 and 2007 green conditional survey and citizen questionnaires totaling 573 in the year 1999 and 982 in the year 2007. As a result, first, the factor 'urban parks' is the most important factor and 'cityscape' is the second most important factor in parks and greens satisfaction(PGS). Second, PGS in turn causes environmental quality satisfaction(EQS), which is related to two items--'urban livability' and 'aesthetic quality'--in the model. This means that PGS is the intervening variable of urban livability. Third, the factor analysis resulted in six factors: cityscape, urban green, linear facilities, urban parks, riverside green, and urban forest. 'Riverside green' emerged as a factor in 2007 as a result of public participation in the 'Anyang River Revitalization Project'. Fourth, through a transactional view, the environmental changes result in either a change in or stability of public attitude. The levels of satisfaction were elevated but patterns of satisfied-unsatisfied items remained unchanged for most factors. The perception of riverside a greenway and linear surface facilities(pedestrian walkways, biking and jogging trails, etc.) have changed positively. PGS changed significantly in 2007, as a result of urban events and development, including parks, rivers and greenways which were built through the joint effort of the local government and civic participation.
This study conducted a survey on forest and shrub vegetation in the riverside of the main stream of the Nakdong River on the southeastern part of Korea based on the method of ZM school of phytosociology. As a result, this study identified the vegetation units as ten associations and communities belonging to three classes, and four communities unclear to the upper units. The identified vegetation units were as follows: A-1 Acero-Fagetea class group, Fraxino-Ulmetaria, undecided alliance: 1) Fraxinus mandshurica community; Zelkovetalia(prov.), Zelkovion(prov.): 2) Zelkova serrata community, A-2 Salicetea sachalinensis, Salicetalia koreensis, Salicion koreensis: 3) Salicetum koreensio-chaenomeloides, 4) Salicetum koreensis, 5) Hemipteletum davidii, 6) Salicetum gracilistylae, 7) Salicetum graciliglandis, 8) Salicetum subfragilis, A-3 Rosetea multiflorae, Dioscoreo-Puerarietalia lobatae, Actinidio-Vition coignetiae: 9) Stephanandra incisa community, 10) Lycium chinense community, A-4 unclear upper units: 11) Clerodendron trichotomum community, 12) Ailanthus altissima community, 13) Robinia pseudo-acacia community. 14) Amorpha fruticosa community. The community units identified by the study corresponded with the result of cluster analysis quite nicely while the result of PCA analysis in multivariate analyses showed less correspondence with cluster analysis result, but it was interpreted as a degree of aggregation according to anthropogenic influence. The vegetation unit of forests and shrubs, unlike the herbal community in highly common with those of Japan, included five vegetation units unique to Korea at a collective level. On the basis of the above synecological study, this research discussed the relation between each community and environment, and natural environment, etc.

The purpose of this study is an analysis of the risk of soil erosion before and after the maintenance of riparian area using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model based on GIS and digitizing data. To analysis of soil erosion loss in the study area, land cover maps, topographical maps, soil maps, precipitation and other data were used. After digitizing the riparian area of the Geumhogang, the area is divided into administrative district units, respectively. Amount of soil loss was classified into 5 class according to the degree of loss. Totally, 1 and 5 class were decreased, and 2-4 class were increased. Daegu and Yeongcheon decreased the area of 5 class, and Gyeongsan did not have area of 5 class. The reason for this is thought to be the decrease of the 5 class area due to the park construction, expansion of artificial facilities, and reduction of agricultural land. Simplification of riverside for river dredging and park construction has increased the flow rate of the riverside and it is considered that the amount of soil erosion has increased.

To improve the accuracy of frost warning system for pear orchard in a complex terrain in Naju area, the daily minimum temperature forecasted by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) was interpolated using a regional climate model based on topoclimatic estimation and optimum scale interpolation from 2004 to 2005. Based on the validation experiments done for three pear orchards in the spring of 2004, the results showed a good agreement between the observed and predicted values, resulting in improved predictability compared to the forecast from Korea Meteorological Administration. The differences between the observed and the predicted temperatures were $-2.1{\sim}2.7^{\circ}C$ (on average $-0.4^{\circ}C$) in the valley, $-1.6{\sim}2.7^{\circ}C$ (on average $-0.4^{\circ}C$) in the riverside and $-1.1{\sim}3.5^{\circ}C$ (on average $0.6^{\circ}C$) in the hills. Notably, the errors have been reduced significantly for the valley and riverside areas that are more affected by the cold air drainage and more susceptible to frost damage than hills.
Water management agencies under the Ministry of Environment produce and accumulate qualified basic data for major rivers. However, the integrated management of the river water has been weak since the artificial water circulation process, such as the intaking and drainage of agricultural water, has not been examined in the basin, which includes many agricultural land. In this study, a study was conducted on how the power usage method (operating time method) based on the running time can be applied and improved among indirect flow rate measurement methods used to investigate flow rates collected by the riverside for agricultural water purposes, and thus the resultant data of high reliability can be obtained at low cost. The operation time method is suitable for small-scale water pumping stations where it is difficult to secure real-time power supply data. The reliability of the data was verified through the correlation analysis with the actual flow rate, and it was found that the flow rate calculated by the operation time method reflecting the level of the stream to which the inlet of the pumping station is connected can be reasonably matched with the actual flow rate. In addition, it was confirmed that the investment cost at the time of initial installation of the facility was highly efficient by generating qualified flow data at low cost through comparison with direct flow rate measurement methods. If flow data is secured by applying the operation time method to large and small water farms located along the riverside, it is expected that more quantitative and integrated stream water management will be possible.

Aims: This study was carried out to find the prevalence of human clonorchiasis and to know epidemiological features in a Clonorchis sinensis-endemic area in Korea. Methods and materials: The EHSA was applied for the serodiagnosis of clonorchiasis. A total of 2,591 inhabitants at Soonchang-gun county adjacent to the Sumjin River were screened through the assay. The questionnaire survey was performed for several epidemiological points related to C. sinensis infection. Data from 95 inhabitants were processed for the statistical analysis. Results: The prevalence of human clonorchiasis in Soonchang-gun was 16.1% in average from 33.6% to 7.0% according to the villages of the survey. In the riverside villages to the Sumjin River the prevalences were higher than those in other villages located far from the river. The odd ratio (OR) between men and women was 2.76, indicating that the clonorchiasis was 2.76 times more prevalent in man than woman. The ORs were 2.14 in alcoholic group, 2.40 in the group of raw-eating of fresh-water fishes, 2.44 in the people who thought they were healthy, 5.23 in the people who knew well about the clonorchiasis, and 3.32 in the people who had again raw-eating of the fishes following medication. Conclusions: These results suggested that human clonorchiasis was still highly endemic in riverside area of the Sumjin River and some predisposing factors such as raw-eating of fresh-water fishes were significantly related to the human clonorchiasis.
This numerical study is to investigate the seepage characteristics of the side of the structure in the event of leakage from the structural connection part of the drainage structure installed through the enlarged levee, and to analyze the effect of piping on the stabilization of the levee by the lateral penetration behavior. To take into account lateral seepage behavior, 2D and 3D numerical analyses were performed on the same model, and the effect of lateral seepage was analyzed to assess the validity of the numerical analysis. As a result, when leakage occurs and a lateral seepage is considered with the gate located on the riverside land, the maximum pore water pressure near the leakage point of the structure has been reduced by half compared to the normal seepage state where no leakage occurred. Excessive variation in the pore pressure was shown at the lower part of the structure, especially if lateral seepage is not considered. As a water level rises to the high water level, it shows the hydraulic gradient was larger than the critical hydraulic gradient, which will be vulnerable to long-term piping. If a gate is located in the inland and side seepage is not considered, the effect of the seepage water such as hydraulic gradient and seepage velocity is underestimated compared with the case of considering side seepage. The maximum hydraulic gradient is relatively small when lateral seepage is neglected if a gate is located in the riverside land and there was might be a risk of piping or loss of material. In addition, the period exceeding the critical hydraulic gradient was interpreted as a short time zone. As a result, it is considered that the possibility of piping can be underestimated if side seepage is ignored.
In order to clarify ecological survival strategy of Rumex crispus community dominating under contaminated area of lower region of Kumho riverside including Chimsangyo (CS), Paldalgyo (PD), Talseochon (TS) and Kumhogyo (KH), we analyzed the content of heavy metals and inorganic matter and vegetative growth. R. crispus showed rapid formation of community by high growth rate, high T/R ratio and showed maximum T/R ratio at the contaminated area Talseochon. Nitrogen and phosphorus contents in R. crispus showed high value in shoot than that of root. T/R ratio of nitrogen and phosphorus showed 3.1∼3.6 and 1.5∼4.5 for the early growth stage, and 6.7∼17.3 and 3.9∼8.3 for the late one, respectively. The absorbed heavy metals by riot were translocated to shoot, the heavy metal content in shoot higher than those in root of Cu, Zn, Fe, and Pb for 3.6, 1.7, 1.5 and 4.8 times, respectively. Distribution ratio of the heavy metals in each organ showed 61∼85% and 15∼39% for shoot and root, respectively. R. crispus accumulated heavy metals in the order of Fe>Zn>Cu>Pb in shoot, and showed maximum values of Cu, Zn, Fe and Pb for 89.7, 376.6, 2946.1 and 13.2 ㎍/g dw, respectively at Talseochon in April. A physiological and morphological characteristics of R. crispus showed thickened leaf, increased water content above 80% and rapid growth of shoot. R. crispus showed ecological adaptation to the contaminated area by transportation of heavy metals and inorganic matter to shoot, and by accumulation of Ca ion in root.

This study facility use and satisfaction of the users of Han River Citizen's Park in Ttuksum district in order to provide foundational data necessary for planning and designing to enhance general user satisfaction when building new riverside parks or reorganizing existing riverside parks. In order to do so, the study surveyed and analyzed the user satisfaction of 374 men and women who use Ttuksum district located in Han River Citizen's Park. For this study, data were collected by self-administration method from 374 samples selected by the convenience sampling method. The results are as follows. 1) Users of Ttuksum district than male. The distribution of related accessibility, those residing within 5 kilometers the site it frequently. 2) Use it for walk, relaxation, or exercise. Are often accompanied by friends or family. Also, about the facility use by the purpose of use or characteristics of conpany, the grass square was utilized the most. 3) About user satisfaction with the park facilities in Ttuksum district, it was higher in the grass square(3.95), sport facilities(3.73), and music fountain(3.72) in order. Regarding the specialized park facilities, satisfaction was mostly low except for the music fountain. Also, about the satisfaction with the usability or view, accessibility(4.03) and night view(3.90) were. Based on the results of this study, it to proceed with positive verification processes in the follow-up research order to enhance reliability of those results.
