  • In this research, we constructed a 3D riverbed surveying system that is able to acquire the topographical information of a riverbed in real-time. The system consists of a RTK-GPS receiver and a echo sounder for collecting simultaneously the position and the water depth information of riverbed. A program for data composition and transformation was designed to generate the 3D coordinates by combining data of a GPS receiver and a echo sounder and made GIS database construction easy. We extracted TIN, digital elevation model and cross sectional maps of the riverbed by using GIS software from 3D data constructed through test surveying. It was shown that the accuracy of the result was RMS error of 0.069m when compared with the existing methods which use a total station and staffs. It is expected that the 3D riverbed surveying system wiil be able to be utilized to various surveying for water resources management in rivers, sea, dams, storing reservoirs and so forth.

  • We intend to increase in eficiency of the topographic monitoring of seabed or riverbed by combinedwith DGPS, RTK GPS and echo sounder. For this study, we defined the error corection of the echo sounder with the experiment of water tank, which is considered the characteristic of estuary riverbedand then we developed the s/w for 3-dimensional monitoring of estuary riverbed and aplied the s/wto field test and improved the various problems. On analyzing topography of estuary riverbed by combinedby the movement of survey vessel to the end of the transducer was eliminated by geometrical rearangementand we defined the corection formula, . The sounding error about the echo sounder and characteristic of estuary riverbed was found by understanding the relation of average diameter and residual error and we defined corection formula, Y=-0.0474*ln(X) -0.045 by the regression analysis. and then we verified applicability of corection formula. This study that by Visual Basic must be useful applied in the topographic analysis of the estuary riverbed.

  • Riverbed Modeler, which is a commercial packet-level discrete event simulator is used to model, design, and simulate complicated communication protocols and large-scale network. Riverbed Modeler got credit for its reliability in field of network simulation. In the MANET simulation environment using Riverbed Modeler, it is very complicated to add a new routing protocol into existing architecture of routing protocols because it is required lots of modifications of protocol recognition. In this paper, we propose Routing Adding Framework which can reduce errors or mistakes during modifying the existing routing support architecture. Routing Adding Framework is provided as a adapter API for protocol recognition. and it is only minimum modifications for protocol identifiers when a new routing protocol is added to the child process of manet_mgr process which manages routing protocols for IP layer. With Routing Adding Framework, we can reduce less than half modification. Then, we shows an example of implementation of a hybrid routing protocol AntHocNet using Routing Adding Framework, and we verify its design and application of the Routing Adding Framework by obtaining simulation result with similar result given by AntHocNet.

  • Trying to estimate variations of the riverbed is basic and important for river management. When new dam constructed in upstream and a structure were planned, impact of the riverbed changes in downstream should be considered for stably maintained and sustained rivers in the future. In this study, long-term riverbed changes analyzed using aerial photographs in Naeseongcheon. Also applying one-dimensional numerical model, GSTARS analyzed the effects of bed deformation in critical points. Based on Changing Patterns of long-term riverbed, it is possible that after the dam was built, to explore how to manage Naeseongcheon.

  • With estmating drinking water demands of Ulsan city, the amount would be increased from 523,000ton/day in 2006 to 635,000 ton/day in 2016. Also, the dependence of Nakdong River on the Ulsan city as a source of drinking water will be very high up to 54.4% of total drinking water demands. Small-scale drinking water dam is no economical because of excessive construction cost and long construction period. However, development of riverbed and ground water of existing rivers is more economical than that of small-scale drinking water dam. In this study, to utilized Dongchun River as a drinking water resource, Modflow model was used to predict the amount of riverbed and ground water of Dongchun River basin. As a result, available amount of riverbed water was assumed in 6,000 ton/day by worst case (when perfect dry stream) and in case of ground water, it was assumed in 17,800 ton/day.

  • The scouring process is complex and subject to many factors. Recently, experiments for real-time bridge scour monitoring have been active as means for a more reliable scour prediction. Riverbed materials are an important factor in bridge scouring; therefore, an accurate estimation of riverbed material is critical in predicting a scour. As a part of this approach, an ultrasonic sensor, which can not only detect river bottom during floods but can also be installed lose to the underwater structures, was developed. This sensor is able to map the river bottom using an ultrasonic waves with the characteristics of the returning wave, reflected from an object or bottom ground. The reflected wave is unique according to the situations, or materials below. Therefore, it would be possible to identify the consisting materials of a riverbed if we could reveal each characteristic in the received signals. In this study, a preliminary experiment was performed in the laboratory to identify and classify received signals, which is unique to each material. The analysis of this experiment gives the graph, which makes it possible to identify materials of the river bottom through the ultrasonic signals. The proposed graph was verified through a comparison with the actual field data measured in river.

  • Riverbed filtration(RBF) system is used to develop ground water and infiltrated water supplies from permeable sand and gravel deposits. RBF plants are constructed with a reinforced concrete caisson that serves as a wet well pumping station. The lateral well screens are projected horizontally into waterbearing deposits from inside the caisson. Riverbed filtration(RBF) is a low-cost and efficient alternative water treatment for drinking-water applications.

  • Geothermal energy becomes to be one of the promising energy sources. In this study, technology using water thermal energy from riverbank filtration system(including alluvial and riverbed deposit) is reviewed and checked as an energy resources. The objects of this study are (1) long-term monitoring of alluvial and riverbed sites, (2) preliminary design of cooling and heating system at riverbank filtration facility, and (3) calculation of potential groundwater heat energy, including riverbank filtration system. Measuring data of alluvial and riverbank filtration show slight fluctuations comparing to temperature of atmospheric air which indicates that groundwater obtained from the riverbank filtration system have a sufficient potential as a source of cooling and heating energy.

  • A careful re-examination has been conducted on the applicability of the concept of equilibrium riverbed slope to river engineering practice and on the validity of Aki's and Mononobe's formulas that are widely used in Korea for determination of equilibrium riverbed slope. A stream in equilibrium is one in which, over a period of years, slope is naturally adjusted to provide, with available water discharge and with prevailing channel characteristics, just the velocity required for transportation of the sediment load supplied from the upstream. The equilibrium riverbed slope is the bed slope of such river. The present river engineering practice to analyze the riverbed characteristics by applying so called 'the equilibrium riverbed slope formula' to such rivers, therefore, should be avoided. Also, the validities of Aki's and Mononobe's formulas, that are presently used for determination of stable channel slope, are very dubious and should not be used in river engineering practice.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the pollutants removal characteristics of two types of RBFs(Riverbank filtration, Riverbed filtration) intake facilities installed in Nakdong River and in Hwang River respectively. The capacity of each RBF is 45,000 m3/d for riverbank filtration intake facility and 3,500 m3/d for riverbed filtration intake facility. According to data collected in the riverbank filtration site, removal rate of each pollutant was about BOD(Biochemical Oxygen Demand) 52%, TOC(Total Organic Carbon) 57%, SS(Suspended Solids) 44%, Total coliforms 99% correspondingly. Furthermore, Microcystins(-LR,-YR,-RR) were not found in riverbank filtered water compared to surface water in Nakdong River. DOC(Dissolved Organic Carbon) and Humics which are precursors of disinfection byproduct were also reported to be removed about 59% for DOC, 65% for Humics. Based on data analysis in riverbed filtration site in Hwang River, removal rate of each contaminant reaches to BOD 33.3%, TOC 38.5%, SS 38.9%, DOC 22.2%, UV254 21.2%, Total coliforms 73.8% respectively. Additionally, microplastics were also inspected that there was no obvious removal rate in riverbed filtered water compared to surface water in Hwang River.
