  • The significant aim of this research is to suggest the applicable data for the future urban ecological restoration of rivers' activity and the direction of the future eco-experience program found by analyzing the state and progress of the restoration of the river ecological experience program. For this purpose, we researched the eco-experience program's outline and details of its operation and method from six rivers among all of the rivers going through restoration. We also carried out telephone interviews and in-depth interviews with the office staff that takes care about each river at the district office to investigate the specific details not revealed by our analysis, the number of operations, and the number of participants. We compared the number of operations to the number of participants and the frequency of participation of each river in a year. As a result, they have revealed that the participants of the eco-experience program ranged in variety including local students, families, and local citizens as a whole. Also the intimate observation and experience with nature gave the participants a better understanding of the ecosystem. In addition, it is revealed that the cheonggye river goes through its own standard of strict inspections and management daily. It is quite easy to notice that the cheonggye river shows a higher level of participation and operating activity than other rivers.

  • In The study, is to investigate the spatial characteristics of the Miho stream, which is the main tributary of the Geum River system, and to identify the main factors influencing the water quality using water quality analysis and multivariate analysis. The survey subjects were selected as 7 main sites in the Miho stream water system, From 2012 to 2017, 16 items including weather temperature and weather data were used for multivariate analysis. As a result of the water quality analysis, the average concentration of BOD and COD for 6 years was 3grade (normal) compared with the water quality environmental standard (river) of conditions. The concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus were highest at th upstream site, then decreased and then increased again by the hydrogeological and geomorphological effect. Cluster analysis of spatial and water quality characteristics, it was evaluated as three clusters and the pollution sources is the greatest impact. As a result of principal component analysis and factor analysis on each cluster and mainstream, three to four major components were extracted. Main stream and the Cluster 1, Cluster 3 first principal factor included nitrogen and seasonal factors, first factor of Cluster 2 included nitrogen and water temperature. Nitrogen is the principal factor which affects water quality in Miho stream.

  • The objective of this study was to reconstruct spatial information using the results of the investigation and evaluation of the health of the living organisms, habitat, and water quality at the investigation points for the aquatic ecosystem health of the Nakdong River basin, to support the rational decision making of the aquatic ecosystem preservation and restoration policies of the Nakdong River basin using spatial analysis techniques, and to present efficient management methods. To analyze the aquatic ecosystem health of the Nakdong River basin, punctiform data were constructed based on the position information of each point with the aquatic ecosystem health investigation and evaluation results of 250 investigation sections. To apply the spatial analysis technique, the data need to be reconstructed into areal data. For this purpose, spatial influence and trends were analyzed using the Kriging interpolation(ArcGIS 10.1, Geostatistical Analysis), and were reconstructed into areal data. To analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of the Nakdong River basin health based on these analytical results, hotspot(Getis-Ord Gi, $G^*_i$), LISA(Local Indicator of Spatial Association), and standard deviational ellipse analyses were used. The hotspot analysis results showed that the hotspot basins of the biotic indices(TDI, BMI, FAI) were the Andong Dam upstream, Wangpicheon, and the Imha Dam basin, and that the health grades of their biotic indices were good. The coldspot basins were Nakdong River Namhae, the Nakdong River mouth, and the Suyeong River basin. The LISA analysis results showed that the exceptional areas were Gahwacheon, the Hapcheon Dam, and the Yeong River upstream basin. These areas had high bio-health indices, but their surrounding basins were low and required management for aquatic ecosystem health. The hotspot basins of the physicochemical factor(BOD) were the Nakdong River downstream basin, Suyeong River, Hoeya River, and the Nakdong River Namhae basin, whereas the coldspot basins were the upstream basins of the Nakdong River tributaries, including Andong Dam, Imha Dam, and Yeong River. The hotspots of the habitat and riverside environment factor(HRI) were different from the hotspots and coldspots of each factor in the LISA analysis results. In general, the habitat and riverside environment of the Nakdong River mainstream and tributaries, including the Nakdong river upstream, Andong Dam, Imha Dam, and the Hapcheon Dam basin, had good health. The coldspot basins of the habitat and riverside environment also showed low health indices of the biotic indices and physicochemical factors, thus requiring management of the habitat and riverside environment. As a result of the time-series analysis with a standard deviation ellipsoid, the areas with good aquatic ecosystem health of the organisms, habitat, and riverside environment showed a tendency to move northward, and the BOD results showed different directions and concentrations by the year of investigation. These aquatic ecosystem health analysis results can provide not only the health management information for each investigation spot but also information for managing the aquatic ecosystem in the catchment unit for the working research staff as well as for the water environment researchers in the future, based on spatial information.

  • In this study, both habitat use analysis by rumen contents of Eurasian river otter (Lutra lutra) were carried out to investigate the preference of habitat environment and diet using their fecal samples. As the target sites, two streams (the Naechon-cheon and the Koonup-cheon) were selected in the upstream of the Hongcheon river, Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province. A total of 478 track samples (e.g., feces, scent and footprint) were found during the survey periods (May to November, 2009 and November, 2010). The dominant points, where the tracks of river otters were observed, were areas with the low depth(0.5-1m) and the slow flow velocity (5m/sec). Also, both rocks and rock-beds were preferred but artificial facilities were avoided. This ecological study of river otters using habitat use analysis and diet analysis by rumen contents will be useful fundamental information to conserve the river otter populations, and to protect their habitats.

  • The Hoelyongpo in the Naeseong River as tributary basin of the Nakdong River is broadly well-known a tourist attraction, which is made of sandy beach, and is called "Island of Inland". But Construction of the Dam was planned at upstream of river. In other words, an influx of sediment is blocked from upstream of river. In this situation, through sediment discharge coming from tributary of the Naeseong river, the whether to go ahead of sand beach of the Hoelyongpo is analyzed by using 1-D and 2-D model. The sediment discharge is estimated through ratio raw with basin area, and the instream flow requirement of river coming from dam and the flow rate and sediment coming from tributary are inputted for model. The 1-D model uses HEC-6 and the 2-D model uses SMS(RMA2 and SED2D). The analysis using the HEC-6 is performed from cross section data 10 year ago to the present cross section. Consequently, Yang equation presenting similar result to the present cross section data is determined, using this, the prediction is conducted for the cross section after 20 years. The 2-D analysis is conducted for the present cross section data. The value of distinction between a deposition and erosion with the results presented in the 1, 2-D models is occur, however, the appearance between the deposition and the erosion is similar.

  • This study aimed to analyze water cycle at Taehwa river, Dongcheon, Hoiya river and Cheongryang cheon in Ulsan city using CAT model developed by Korea Institute of construction technology. To apply CAT model, we separated Teahwa river into 25, Dongcheon into 11, Hoiya river into 17 and Cheongryangcheon into 5 subbasins and discriminated between contribution runoff basins and source basins. The results of water cycle analysis performed using rainfall datas measured from 1975 and 2008 and hydrologic datas of change of land use etc. were that surface runoff increase and interflow decrease, caused by the increase of impervious area. The increases of surface runoff at the basin of Taehwa river and Dongcheon which is a tributary of Taehwa river were small and similar to each other respectively as 1.7% and 2.4%, and increased high rate of 3.2% and 7.7% in Hoiya river and Cheongryangcheon including subbasins which are having high rate of urbanization.

  • In this study, the characteristics of bed elevation changes of the Nakdong River when weir gates are opened were analyzed using the Hydrologic Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). The study area was 292.37 km downstream of the Gudam Bridge to the Nakdong estuary of the Nakdong River. The HEC-RAS program, which is a 1D numerical analysis model, was used to simulate bed elevation changes. Simulations were conducted under two scenarios from 2017 to 2019. Scenarios 1 and 2 were devised under the conditions of a fully opened gate and during gate installation, respectively. Results confirmed that, under the conditions of Scenario 1, deposition occurred in most sections from the Hapcheon-Changnyeong weir to the Changnyeong-Haman weir (a distance of approximately 40 km). In addition, it was predicted that the flow that included sediments in the main stream of the Nakdong River was not interrupted by the weir structure and regularly produced changes in the river bed.

  • Water quality analysis in the midstream of the Nakdong river is studied. Deterministic model RQ1 which contains two code, RQ1-1 for hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and RQ1-2 for water quality analysis are developed. Monthly mean and minimum discharges in the basin (from Waegwan to Jindong) are estimated. A varied flow analysis is performed based on the geometric data of channel and RQ-1 model. The maximum concentration of BOD and minimum concentration of DO are occurred at the confluence of Keumho river and immediately downstream of Hyunpoong, respectively. The computed concentrations of BOD at several points have good agreements with observed data. Maximum allowable BOD loads from the Keumho River are provided to attain the goal of water quality in the basin.
