The direct conversion method is classified into the structure using the mixing technology and six-port scheme. In the view point of complexity and integration the direct conversion method using the six-port scheme is superior to that with mixing technology. Expecially, the six-port direct conversion technology provides the low power consumption and the broad-band characteristic. In this paper, the six-port direct conversion receiver with the branch-line coupler and the ring hybrid coupler is desisted respectively. The performances of the designed six-port schemes are analyzed and the six-port scheme with superior performance characteristics is proposed.
Streptomyces venezuelae ATCC 15439 is notable in its ability to produce two distinct groups of macrolactones. It has been reported that the generation of two macrolactone structures results from alternative expression of pikromycin (Pik) polyketide synthase (PKS). It was previously reported that the hybrid pikromycin-tylosin PKS can also produce two different macrolactones but its mechanistic basis remains unclear. In order to address this question, a series of site-directed mutagenesis of tentative alternative ribosome binding site and translation start codons in tylGV were performed. The results suggest that macrolactone ring size is not determined by the alternative expression of TylGV but through other mechanism(s) involving direct interaction between the PikAIII and TE domain or skipping of the final chain elongation step. This provides new insight into the mechanism of macrolactone ring size determination in hybrid PKS as well as an opportunity to develop novel termination activities for combinatorial biosynthesis.

This paper describes the design of size-reduced ring hybrid couplers (RHC) using a common defected ground structure (CDGS). The proposed RHC consists of double-sided microstrip line and the CDGS patterns which are placed in the common ground plane of the double-sided microstrip line. The effects of DGS as a periodic structure are imposed on both microstrip lines, so the advantages of the existing DGS are doubled. The normal RHC is designed first and folded by the half reference plane with the CDGS realized on the common ground plane. So another trial for size-reduction is performed by folding the RHC and inserting CDGS besides to the conventional DGS. In order to show a design example, a 2GHz RHC is designed and miniaturized using CDGS. The size of the miniaturized RHS is around 50% of the normal one, while the performances are well preserved even after the size-reduction.

Similarity and diversity of various quantum ring structures are investigated by classifying energy dispersions of three different structures: an electrostatic quantum ring, a magnetic quantum ring, and a magnetic-electric quantum ring. The wave functions and the eigenenergies of a single electron in the quantum ring structures are calculated by solving the Schrdinger equation without any electron-electron interaction. Magnetoconductance is studied by calculating a two-terminal conductance while taking into account the backscattering via the resonance through the states of the quantum rings at the center of a quasi-one dimensional conductor. It is found that the energy spectra for the various quantum ring structures are sensitive to additional electrostatic potentials as well as to the effects of a nonuniform magnetic field. There are also characteristics of similarity and diversity in the energy dispersions and in the single-channel magnetoconductance.

Seismic dissipation devices can play a crucial role in mitigating earthquake damages, loss of life and post-event repair and downtime costs. This research investigates the use of ring springs with high-force-to-volume (HF2V) dissipaters to create damage-free, recentring connections and structures. HF2V devices are passive rate-dependent extrusion-based devices with high energy absorption characteristics. Ring springs are passive energy dissipation devices with high self-centring capability to reduce the residual displacements. Dynamic behaviour of a system with nonlinear structural stiffness and supplemental hybrid damping via HF2V devices and ring spring dampers is used to investigate the design space and potential. HF2V devices are modelled with design forces equal to 5% and 10% of seismic weight and ring springs are modelled with loading stiffness values of 20% and 40% of initial structural stiffness and respective unloading stiffness of 7% and 14% of structural stiffness (equivalent to 35% of their loading stiffness). Using a suite of 20 design level earthquake ground motions, nonlinear response spectra for 8 different configurations are generated. Results show up to 50% reduction in peak displacements and greater than 80% reduction in residual displacements of augmented structure compared to the baseline structure. These gains come at a cost of a significant rise in the base shear values up to 200% mainly as a result of the force contributed by the supplemental devices.

The four-port coupler circuit consists of input port, isolation port and two output ports. When it inserts a signal at the input port and the isolation port, the magnitude and phase of the output signal at two output ports are decided by the magnitude and phase of the input signal. This paper analyzes the output signal characteristic of two output ports due to the input signal magnitude and phase of two input ports using the typical 4-port coupler circuit, Branchline hybrid coupler and Ring-hybrid coupler. And, it studies about new way to use branchline hybrid coupler and ring-hybrid coupler on the basis of the this information.
A hybrid finite element analysis was used to analyze the influence of ring gear rim thickness and spline number on the static properties of an epicyclic gear system with manufacturing errors. Both of these parameters affected the bearing force and critical stress. The effect of changes in the rim thickness on the load sharing between the gears depended on the type of manufacturing error. Ring flexibility improved the load sharing between planetary gears only in systems with planet tooth thickness or planet tangential errors; for other types of error, ring flexibility worsened the load sharing. To improve load sharing, rim thickness and spline number should be controlled within a specific range. The effect of the ring gear boundary condition was more apparent in a system with errors than in a normal system.
Ab initio and extended Huckel calculations have been applied to discuss the electronic structure, ring inversion barrier, and geometry of the $Cp_2TiS_3$ compound. The deformation of four membered ring in the planar geometry is originated from a second-order Jahn-Teller distortion due to the small energy gap between HOMO and LUMO on the basis of extended Huckel calculations. The puckered $C_s$ geometry is stabilized by the interaction of the $x^2-y^2$ metal orbital with the hybrid orbital in sulfur. Ab initio calculations have been carried out to explore the ring inversion process for the model $Cl_2TiS_3$ compound. We have optimized $C_s$ and $C_{2v}$ structures of the model compound at the RHF level. The energy barriers for the ring inversion are sensitive to the used basis set. With 4-31$G^*$ for the Cl and S ligands, the barriers are computed to be 8.41 kcal/mol at MP2 and 8.02 kcal/mol at MP4 level.

Fast inspection of solder ball bumps in ball grid array (BGA) is an important issue in the flip chip bonding technology. Particularly, semiconductor industry has required faster and more accurate inspection of micron-size solder bumps in flip chip bonding, as the density of balls increase dramatically. In this paper, we describe an inspection approach of BGA balls by using 5-step ring illumination device and normalized cross-correlation (NCC) method. The images of BGA ball by the illumination device show unique and distinguishable characteristic contours by their 3-D shapes, which are called as "iso-slope contours". Template images of reference ball samples can be produced artificially by the hybrid reflectance model and 3D data of balls. NCC values between test and template samples are very robust and reliable under well-structured condition. The 200 samples on real wafer are tested and show good practical feasibility of the proposed method.
