An improved convergent and economical method has been developed for the synthesis of erlotinib, a 4-anilinoquinazoline and an EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor for treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer. The final two steps for the formation of this 4-anilinoquinazoline from suitable 2-aminobenzonitrile intermediate and 3-ethynylaniline were modified and were performed in a simple one-pot reaction. The ring-closing mechanism for the formation of erlotinib from the suitable formamidine intermediate and 3-ethynylaniline was investigated and determined to proceed via the formation of phenyl benzamidine intermediate rather than involving Dimroth rearrangement reported earlier. The new benzamidine intermediate was isolated for the first time and characterized.
The rate constants for the formation and dissociation of nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with mandelate have been determined by the pressure-jump relaxation study. The forward and reverse rate constants for the mandelate complex formation reactions were obtained to be $k_f=3.60{\times}10^4\;M^{-1}s^{-1}$ and $k_r=1.73{\times}10^2\;s^{-1}$ for the nickel(II), and $k_f=1.75{\times}10^5\;M^{-1}s{-1}$ and $2.33{\times}10^3\;s^{-1}$ for the cobalt(II) in aqueous solution of zero ionic strength ($(\mu{\to}0)\;at\;25^{\circ}C$. The results were interpreted by the use of the multistep complex formation mechanism. The rate constants evaluated for each individual steps in the multistep mechanism draw a conclusion that the rate of the reaction would be controlled by the chelate ring closure step in concert with the solvent exchange step in the nickel(II) complexation, while solely by the chelate ring closure step for the cobalt(II) complex.
The enzymatic polymerization of 12-hydroxystearic acid (12-HSA) was carried out with Lipase $CA^{(R)}$ in benzene to produce poly(12-hydroxystearate) (PHS) with a low molecular weight. When this polymerization was continued for a long reaction time, the PHS once formed was depolymerized into a cyclic diester, 13,16-dihexyl-1,14-dioxacyclohexacosane-2,15-dione (12-HSAD). Similar polymerization and depolymerization were observed when 12-hydroxyoleic acid (12-HOA) was treated with Lipase $CA^{(R)}$, whereas only polymerization occurred when 12-hydroxydodecanoic acid (12-HDA) was treated in a similar manner. The preferential formation of cyclic diesters for 12-HSA was attributed to the structural requirements due to the bulky n-hexyl side groups stemming from the ring systems.
Using VLT/MUSE and ALMA data, we present a spatially-resolved analysis of the central part of NGC 5728. We find enhanced star formation (${\sim}1.8M{\odot}/yr/kpc2$) at a region where AGN gas outflows intersect the star formation ring. In contrast, significantly weaker CO emission (~3.5 times) is found at the same region compared to other regions in ring, suggesting positive AGN feedback on star formation. On the other hand, we detect gas outflows outside of the spiral arms, implying that the inflowing gas in the arms is removed (i.e., negative feedback). Even though the positive and negative feedback are expected at the central part of NGC 5728, the impact of the AGN feedback in galaxy scale may be insignificant.
This study investigated the yielding capacity and performance of seismic dampers constructed with steel ring plates using numerical and analytical approaches. This study aims to provide an analytical relationship for estimating the yielding capacity and initial stiffness of steel ring dampers. Using plastic analysis and considering the mechanism of plastic hinge formation, a relation has been obtained for estimating the yielding capacity of steel ring dampers. Extensive parametric studies have been carried out using a nonlinear finite element method to examine the accuracy of the obtained analytical relationships. The parametric studies include investigating the influence of the length, thickness, and diameter of the ring of steel ring dampers. To this end, comprehensive verification studies are performed by comparing the numerical predictions with several reported experimental results to demonstrate the numerical method's reliability and accuracy. Comparison is made between the hysteresis curves, and failure modes predicted numerically or obtained/observed experimentally. Good agreement is observed between the numerical simulations and the analytical predictions for the yielding force and initial stiffness. The difference between the numerical models' ultimate tensile and compressive capacities was observed that average of about 22%, which stems from the performance of the ring-dampers in the tensile and compression zones. The results show that the steel ring-dampers are exhibited high energy dissipation capacity and ductility. The ductility parameters for steel ring-damper between values were 7.5 to 4.1.
Hydrodynamic simulations of gas clouds in the central hundred parsecs region of the Milky Way that is modeled with a three-dimensional bar potential are presented. Our simulations consider realistic gas cooling and heating, star formation, and supernova feedback. A ring of dense gas clouds forms as a result of $X_1-X_2$ orbit transfer, and our potential model results in a ring radius of ~200 pc, which coincides with the extraordinary reservoir of dense molecular clouds in the inner bulge, the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ). The gas clouds accumulated in the CMZ can reach high enough densities to form stars, and with an appropriate choice of simulation parameters, we successfully reproduce the observed gas mass and the star formation rate (SFR) in the CMZ, ${\sim}2{\times}10^7\;M_{\odot}$ and ${\sim}0.1\;M_{\odot}/yr$. Star formation in our simulations takes place mostly in the outermost $X_2$ orbits, and the SFR per unit surface area outside the CMZ is much lower. These facts suggest that the inner Galactic bulge may harbor a mild version of the nuclear star-forming rings seen in some external disk galaxies. We also find that the stellar population resulting from sustained star formation in the CMZ would be enlogated perpendicularly to the main bar, and this "inner bar" can migrate the gas in the CMZ further down to the central parsecs region.

FtsZ, a tubulin homologue, is an essential protein of the Z-ring assembly in bacterial cell division. It consists of two domains, the N-terminal and C-terminal core domains, and has a conserved C-terminal tail region. Lateral interactions between FtsZ protofilaments and several Z-ring associated proteins (Zaps) are necessary for modulating Z-ring formation. ZapD, one of the positive regulators of Z-ring assembly, directly binds to the C-terminal tail of FtsZ and promotes stable Z-ring formation during cytokinesis. To gain structural and functional insights into how ZapD interacts with the C-terminal tail of FtsZ, we solved two crystal structures of ZapD proteins from Salmonella typhimurium (StZapD) and Escherichia coli (EcZapD) at a 2.6 and $3.1{\AA}$ resolution, respectively. Several conserved residues are clustered on the concave sides of the StZapD and EcZapD dimers, the suggested FtsZ binding site. Modeled structures of EcZapD-EcFtsZ and subsequent binding studies using bio-layer interferometry also identified the EcFtsZ binding site on EcZapD. The structural insights and the results of bio-layer interferometry assays suggest that the two FtsZ binding sites of ZapD dimer might be responsible for the binding of ZapD dimer to two protofilaments to hold them together.
The present paper concerns the age determination and growth of butter fish, Pampus argenteus from the southwestern waters of Korea by otolith reading. 743 specimens taken by stow-net in the southern part of the Yellow Sea and northeastern part of the East China Sea during the period from October 1972 to September 1973 were examined. Results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Sex ratio of females to males was found to be 2:1. 2. Ring marks on the otolith were found to be formed twice a year, once during the period of January-May and the other time in September. 3. The Lee's phenomenon was observed on the otolith sample. 4. The relationship between the radius of otolith(R) and fork length(L) was found to be as follows: R=0.3069+0.0133L 5. Calculated fork length at the time of otolith ring formation are found to be as follows:I-ring,71.67mm; II-ring, 125.05mm; III-ring, 168.65mm; IV-ring, 201.74mm; V-ring, 225.80mm; VI-ring, 240.84mm. 6. Maximum fork length calculated according to the diagram of Walford's growth transformation was found to be 281.5mm. 7. Growth curve, when related to the von Bertalanffy's equation, was laid out as $L_{t}=281.5[1-e$^{-0.674(t-0.128)}]$
The process design for large-scale ring rolling of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was performed by calculation method, processing map approach and FEM simulation. The ring rolling design includes geometry design and optimization of process variables. The calculation method was used to make geometry design such as initial billet and blank sizes, and final rolled ring shape. A commercial FEM code, SHAPE-RR was used to simulate the effect of process variables in ring rolling on the distribution of the internal state variables such as strain, strain rate and temperature. In order to predict the forming defects during ring rolling and the formation of over-heating above $\beta$-transus temperature due to deformation heating, the process-map approach based on Ziegler's instability criterion was used with FEM simulation. Finally, an optimum process design to obtain sound Ti-6Al-4V rings without forming defects was suggested through combined approach of Ziegler's instability map and FEM simulation results.
