  • The $I_c$ degradation behavior of critical current in differently processed YBCO and SmBCO CC tapes with IBAD template has been investigated. It has been known that the residual strain in the CC tape will influence the shape of the $I_c$-strain window; $I_c$ may show a peak value if there exist a residual strain induced in the tape during manufacturing. The difference of residual strain may be resulted from the adopted different deposition techniques. In this study, bending test of CC tapes has been done using the Goldacker bending test rig which can produce both compressive and tensile bending strain continuously or alternately to the sample. For SmBCO CC tapes, in continuous compressive bending test, $I_c$ showed a minimal increase and did not degrade up to the largest strain that can be applied using the bending rig equivalent to 1.15% based on the sample thickness. However, in the case of alternate application of compressive and tensile bending strain, $I_c$ showed a larger degradation and a lower reversible limit when compared with the case of continuous application of the bending strain. When $I_c$ started to degrade significantly at the tension side, the reversibility ended, also at the compression side which is resulted from the permanent deformation like delamination or cracks that was induced due to tensile bending strain.

To move naturally, the fish are tested for movement. Because 2,4 family role information although some, but the study of fish (0 family) action information is not much. As the diversity and complexity of fish production increases, inefficient time and capital are required. How to build a fish-like skeleton system depends on how to build an efficient and agile rigging program. The aim of this study is to compare the Advanced Skeleton-based animation process with Maya Rig, which can solve the high time-cost rigging problem, and to explore the best automatic plug-in based on the advantages of Advanced Skeleton, broadening the research scope of fish animation.

  • Smart materials, such as magnetorheological (MR) fluid, have received considerable research attention in recent years due to their unique capabilities. MR fluid, which possesses a magnetic field controllable viscosity, has been extensively studied for vehicular applications with the aim of synthesizing optimal MR fluids, designing optimal MR dampers, and developing control strategies. However, a comprehensive study that primarily focuses on developing a cost-effective semi-active suspension system for a commercial vehicle in a developing nation is still lacking. This study addresses this gap by synthesizing an in-house MR fluid and studying its rheological properties. Subsequently, a novel single-sensor-based controller is developed and closed-loop simulations are conducted on a quarter-car semi-active model. Finally, the overall semi-active quarter-car suspension system is experimentally tested using a suspension test rig. The performance of the proposed system in terms of ride comfort and road holding is evaluated and is compared with simple control strategies. The dynamic range of the developed semi-active MR damper is found to be around 2.3, indicating a significant MR effect. The results suggest an intermediate response using the proposed acceleration-driven controller (ADV) at lower frequencies and similar performance to that of the skyhook controller at higher frequencies. The cost-effective methodology proposed in this study is effective and can be adapted for other semi-active engineering applications.

  • Jack-up drilling rigs are widely used in offshore oil and gas exploration industry. It is originally designed for use in the shallow waters less than 60m of water depth; there is growing demand for their use in deeper water depth over 150m and harsher environmental conditions. In this study, global in-place analysis of jack-up rig leg for North-sea oil well is performed through numerical analysis. Firstly, environmental conditions and seabed characteristics at the North-sea are collected and investigated measurements from survey report. Based on these data, design specifications are established and the overall basic design is performed. Dynamic characteristics of the jack-up rig for North-sea are considered in the global in-place analysis both leg and hull and the basic stability against overturning moment is also analyzed. The structural integrity of the jack-up rig leg/hull is verified through the code checks and the adequate safety margin is observed. The uncertainty in jack-up behaviour is greatly influenced by the uncertainties in the soil characteristics that determine the resistance of the foundation to the forces imposed by the jack-up structure. Among the risks above mentioned, the punch-through during pre-loading is the most frequently encountered foundation problem for jack-up rigs. The objective of this paper is to clarify the detailed structure and installation engineering matters for prove the structural safety of jack-up rigs during operation. With this intention the following items are addressed; - Characteristics of structural behavior considering soil effect against environmental loads - Modes of failure and related pre-loading procedure and parameters - Typical results of structural engineering and verification by actual measurement.

  • In this study, a system to measure continuously the fuel concentration in a steady flow rig on the basis of Rayleigh scattering is presented. The system can be employed to measure both the temporal and the spatial distribution. Also, it is possible to calibrate the system for the measurement of accurate absolute concentration. Firstly, the system was tested at a calibration chamber for the determination of scattering cross section from propane, butane, acetylene, Freon-12 and Genetron 143a. After this, the system was adapted to a steady flow rig to measure the temporal and spatial fuel concentration. The rig is composed of cylinder head, intake manifold, injector, and transparent cylinder which can simulate internal combustion engine. To cope with the interference of Mie scattering, which is main obstacle of the measuring concentration with Rayleigh scattering, a hardware filter was installed for reducing the number density of particles. Furthermore a software filter was developed, which is based on the rise time and the time constant of the photomultiplier-amplifier system. In addition, background noisy was reduced by adjusting the optical array and applying the pin hall and beam trap. The results show that LRS can provide useful information about concentration field and the software filter is very effective method to remove Mie interference.

  • Curved squeal noise may result when railway vehicles run on curved tracks. Contact between the wheels and the rails causes a stick-slip phenomenon, which generates squeal noise. In order to identify the mechanism of the squeal noise systematically, a scaled test rig has been fabricated. Knowledge of the contact forces between the wheels and the rail rollers is essential for investigating the squeal noise characteristics; however, it is difficult to measure there contact force. In this study, contact forces have been calculated indirectly according to the modal behavior of the subframe that supports the rail roller and the responses at specific positions of that subframe. In order to verify the estimated contact forces, the displacements at the contact points between the wheels and rail rollers have been calculated from the estimated forces; the resulting values have been compared with the measured displacement values. The SPL at the specific location has been calculated using the estimated contact forces and this also has been compared with the SPL, measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The comparisons in displacements and SPLs show good correlation.

  • In this study, a running performance evaluation and roller rig test was conducted to evaluate the applicability of a composite bogie frame, which has the role of the primary suspension. The composite bogie frame was made of a GEP224 glass/epoxy prepreg. Vehicle dynamic analysis was carried out on the composite bogie with three different kinds of side beam thicknesses (50 mm, 80 mm, and 150 mm). From the results, the composite bogie with a side beam thickness of 80 mm satisfied all the dynamic design requirements. Although the composite bogie with the side beam thickness of 50mm also met the design requirements, its critical speed was just a 2% margin to the requirement. In contrast, the model of the side beam thickness of 150mm did not meet the ride comfort. In addition, a composite bogie frame with the side beam thickness of 80 mm was fabricated and installed on a complete bogie. Moreover, the roller rig test using the fully equipped bogie was performed to evaluate the critical speed. During the test, the lateral excitation was imposed on the wheelsets to realize the rail irregularity. There was no divergence of the lateral displacement of the wheelsets while increasing the speed. The measured critical speed was similar to the predicted result.

  • Jack-up drilling rigs are mobile offshore platforms widely used in the offshore oil and gas exploration industry. These are independent, three-legged, self-elevating units with a cantilevered drilling facility for drilling and production. A typical jack-up rig includes a triangular hull, a tower derrick, a cantilever, a jackcase, living quarters and legs which comprise three-chord, open-truss, X-braced structure with a spudcan. Generally, jack-up rigs can only operate in water depths ranging from 130m to 170m. Recently, there has been an increasing demand for jack-up rigs for operating at deeper water levels and harsher environmental conditions such as waves, currents and wind loads. All static and dynamic loads are supported through legs in the jack-up mode. The most important issue by society is to secure the safety of the leg structure against collision that causes large instantaneous impact energy. In this study, nonlinear FE -analysis and verification of the requirement against collision for 35MJ recommended by DNV was performed using LS-Dyna software. The colliding ship used a 7,500ton of shore supply vessel, and five scenarios of collisions were selected. From the results, all conditions do not satisfy the class requirement of 35MJ. The loading conditions associated with chord collision are reasonable collision energy of 15M and brace collisions are 6MJ. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the identical collision criteria by DNV need to be modified based on collision scenarios and colliding members.
