  • Short-range wireless communication and networking technologies are becoming increasingly important in enabling useful mobile applications. for example, ZigBee technology is expected to provide low cost and low power connectivity for equipment that needs battery life as long as several months to several years. In addition, ZigBee can be implemented in mesh networks larger than is possible with Bluetooth. The main features of this ZigBee standard are network flexibility, low cost, very low power consumption, and low data rate in an adhoc self-organizing network among fixed, portable and moving devices. Home network/Home automation is one of the key market areas for Zigbee, with an example of a simple network This paper investigates the effect of short range wireless channel on the performance of Zigbee system and DSSS-BPSK signal transmission in AWGN, interference and Rician fading environments. And we investigate performance degradation due to interference and fading effects in short range wireless channel. In particular, the impacts of the fading and interference level on the bit error probability is shown in BER performance figures.

  • This paper has investigated the PER performance and the packet throughput of Bluetooth multi-piconet in the presence of impulsive noise, Rician fading, and co-channel interference. Specially, it is simulated the effect of co-channel interference in Bluetooth multi-piconet. From the simulation results, it is obtained that the co-channel interference due to multi-piconet and impulsive noise affects performance of Bluetooth multi-piconet. And, we have known that the SAW-ARQ method is very efficient to improve the performance of Bluetooth packet transmission.

  • A basic access method about IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol using IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs is the DCF thatis based on the CSMA/CA. But, cause of IEEE 802.11 MAC layer uses original backoff algorithm (exponential backoff method), when collision occurred, the size of contention windows increases the double size Also, a time of packet transmission delay increases and efficienty is decreased by original backoff scheme. In this paper, we have analyzed TCP packet transmission time of IEEE 802.11 MAC DCF protocol for wireless LANs a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm. It is considered the transmission time of transmission control protocol (TCP) packet on the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) in additive white gaussian noise (A WGN) and Rician fading channel. From the results, a proposed enhanced backoff algorithm produces a better performance improvement than an original backoff in wireless LAN environment. Also, in OFDM/quadrature phase shift keying channel (QPSK), we can achieve that the transmission time in wireless channel decreases as the TCP packet size increases and based on the data collected, we can infer the correlation between packet size and the transmission time, allowing for an inference of the optimal packet size in the TCP layer.

  • UWB(Ultra-Wide Band) system is transmitted using Gaussian monocycle pulse of very short pulse duration less than 1 nsec. Therefore, transmission signal has ultra-wide band spectrum to GHz band of very low power and not interfere with the existing communication system. A collision of multipath waves in UWB system with tarrier frequency very different with general wireless communication system. In this paper, the BER(Bit Error Rate) performance of UWB system applying Binary Phase Shift Keying, Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation method under multipath channel using computer simulation is compared and analyzed.

  • In this paper, the performance of a hybrid DS/SFH-SS(direct-sequence/slow-frequency-hopped spread-spectrum) system with coherent BPSK modulation over Nakagami fading channel in the presence of multiple tone jamming is analyzed. Because the Nakagami m-distribution can describe not only Rayleigh fading but also more general fluctuations involving a specular component by adjusting the value of the fading index m. It is known that for m=1 corresponds to Rayleigh fading, for $1/2{\le}m{\le}1$ corresponds to the worst case fading condition, for m>1 corresponds to Rician fading, and for $m{\to}{\infty}$ corresponds to the nonfading condition. The bit error probability is derived over Nakagami model and numerical evaluations are presented for some combinations of system parameters. The results show that as m increases, the bit error probability is better. Also, at a low JSR(jamming-to-signal power ratio), a pure DS-SS system can achieve lower bit error probability than a hybrid DS/SFH-SS system. But at a high JSR, a hybrid DS/SFH-SS system is shown to be superior to a pure DS-SS system. Therefore, it is demonstrated that without increasing the total system bandwidth, the performance of a hybrid DS/SFH-SS is superior to that of a pure DS-SS system in the presence of multiple tone jamming.

  • In this paper, it is analyzed that WAP packet transmission time to improve performance of WAP using SAR-QT algorithm in Bluetooth channel. The order for SAR-QT algorithm to improve the transfer capability, it is fragmented in WTP total messages that are coming down from upper layer and then the packets are sent one at time in baseband. And it is studied that transmission time for WAP over Bluetooth according to DMI, DM3 or DM5 packet type using SAR-QT algorithm in Bluetooth piconet environment. This SAR-QT algorithm decreases WAP packet transmission time of L2CAP baseband packets by sending packet that are spanning multiple slots. From the results, in WAP over Bluetooth channels, it is found out that WTP packet size ought to be increased to decrease transmission time of WAP packet. In addition, considering BER in wireless channel, optimal WTP packet size is achieved for WAP over Bluetooth in a Rician fading environment.

  • In wireless ATM system, powerful FEC code is required for highly reliable data transmission. In this paper, we propose an adaptive hybrid ARQ scheme using RCPSCCC for WATM system. The code rate of RCPSCC is adjusted to match channel conditions and data types. By using only the effective free distances of outer and inner encoders, we derive upper bounds of the bit and word error probabilities over Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. By applying RCPSCC to the adaptive hybrid ARQ protocol, highly reliable data transmission can be achieved.

  • In this paper, perfodrmance of matched-filter (MF) acquisition scheme is analyzed for a direct-sequence/code-division-multiple-access (DS/CDMA) system in a microcellular environment. Mean acquistion time is used as a performance measure. It is demonstrated that acquisition performance is enhanced using interference suppression filter in a Rician fading channel. To apply for multiuser environments, multiple access interference is considered in the performance analysis. From the numerical results, it is shown that mean acquistion time decreases with the increasing SNR/chip, and acquisition performance is improved as the number of taps of interference suppression filter. It is also shown that mean acquisition time increases with the number of users in the system, and acquistion performance is degraded as the icrease of narrowband interference bandwidth. The analysis in this paper can be applied to a DS/CDMA overlay environment.
