神朮散이 알레르기 비염 유발 흰쥐 모델에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Shinchulsan on the Rat Model with Allergic Rhinitis)

  • Objectives : Allergic rhinitis is highly increased in these days. We aimed to investigate therapeutic effect ofShinchulsanby observing changes in blood cells and the protein expression level of IL-4 in spleen of Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with allergic rhinitis.Methods : Fifteen SD rats were divided into three groups: normal, control, and sample group. Allergic rhinitis was induced in the control and sample group by intraperitional and intranasal sensitization with 0.1% and 0.4% Ovalbumin solution. ThenShinchulsanwas orally administered only to the sample group for 28 days, while the rats in the control group was given normal saline.Results : 1.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased eosinophil level on the serum of the rat model.2.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased IgE level on the serum of the rat model.3.Shinchulsanshowed significantly decreased the protein expression levels of IL-4 in spleen of the rat model.4.Shinchulsanhad no hepatoxicity, according to AST and ALT on the serum.Conclusion : According to the above results, it is considered thatShinchulsanis helpful in treatment of allergic rhinitis.

알레르기 비염 환자에서 적색 및 근적외선 LED 광선 치료 효과 (Effect of Red and Infrared LED Light Therapy on Allergic Rhinitis)

  • As a non-invasive method for alleviating allergic rhinitis, there has been a recent ongoing research in the treatment of light from light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers. A total of 15 subjects diagnosed with allergic rhinitis were selected for this study. Red and near infrared light emitted from LEDs with wavelengths of 660nm and 940nm were illuminated three times daily (three minutes per cycle) for a total of two weeks. The degree of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing and nasal itching was evaluated by questionnaires before and after the test. Also, the serum IgE (Immunoglobulin E) was measured and compared before and after the test. As a result, the total score of symptoms of allergic rhinitis was decreased by 67% after the test (P<0.01). The level of IgE was decreased by 17% after the test (P<0.05). In conclusion, the non-invasive LED phototherapy method using red and near-infrared LED light was effective in alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis. There were no adverse effects or complications reported during and after the test.

아로마 에센셜 오일 적용이 알레르기 비염 대학생의 비염증상, 호산구 및 비염 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Aroma Therapy on Allergic Symptoms, Eosinophil, and the Quality of Life related to Rhinitis in University Students with Allergic Rhinitis)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of using aroma essential oils on allergic symptoms, eosinophils and quality of life related to rhinitis for university students with allergic rhinitis. Methods: A randomized controlled experimental design was used. There were 37 participants in the experimental group, and 30 in the control group. The experimental group applied the essential oils four times a day in the nasal area as well as using inhalation of the oils each night for four weeks. Rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire was composed of 28 questions regarding seven areas associated with allergic reactions. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: Rhinitis symptom index, nose itching (p<.001), sneezing (p<.001), watery rhinorrhea (p<.001), and nose congestion (p<.001) all had significant difference for the participants in the treatment group. Further there were significant differences in eosinophils both for measured time and interaction (p<.001). For the quality of life related to rhinitis, the results showed significant difference (p<.001). Conclusion: Using aroma therapy by applying essential oils turned out to be an effective nursing intervention that can be utilized in the easing of allergic symptom and the decrease of eosinophils, causing improvement in the quality of life related to rhinitis.

영감강미신하인탕이 Th 2 세포 분화 조절을 통해 알레르기성 비염에 미치는 효과 (The Treatment Effect of Younggamgangmisinhayin-tang through Control of Th 2 cell Differentiation in Allergic Rhinitis)

  • Objectives : Younggamgangmisinhayin-tang is clinically used for the treatment of the aller -gic rhinitis. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of Younggamgangmisinhayin -tang on allergic rhinitis. Methods : The thirty rats were divided into three groups : control group, AR(allergic rhinitis eliciated) group, YT(Younggamgangmisinhayin-tang treated after allergic rhinitis elicitation) group. To induce allergic rhinitis in AR group, YT group rats were sensitized intraperitoneally with 0.1% ovalbumin(OVA) solution 3 times at intervals of 1 week. Then intranasal sensitization was performed by diffusing 0.1% ovalbumin(OVA) solution 3 times at intervals of 2 days. After that time rats in YT group were oral administration treated by Younggamgangmisinhayin-tang for 7days. The change of the amounts of esinophil, PAS, ZO-1, MIP-2, COX-2, IL-4 were observed in each group. Th 2 skewed condition in EL4 cell was induced by using PMA and OPl. Younggamgangmisinhayin-tang was added into EL4 cell by density. And then IL-4 mRNA was observed. Results : In esinophil study YT group was proved significant inhibitary effect. In PAS and ZO-1 YT group were preserved well. In MIP-2, COX-2 study YT group was proved significant inhibitary effect. In IL-4 and IL-4 mRNA study YT group was proved significant inhibitary effect. Conclusion :According to the above results, it is considered that Younggamgangmisinha- yin-tang has inhibitory effects on the allergic rhinitis rat models.

두시하태독법의 Th2 분화 조절을 통한 알레르기 비염 완화 효과 (Reduction of Allergic Rhinitis by Controlling the Th2 Differentiation of Douchi Hataedock)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the effects of Douchi Hataedock on Th2-skewed conditions to control allergic rhinitis. Methods: NC/Nga mice were divided into three groups: 10 mice were assigned to the control group (CTRL; no treatment), 10 mice to allergic rhinitis-induced (ARE) without treatment group, and 10 mice to the allergic rhinitis-induced (FGT) after Douchi Hataedock treatment group. The 3-week-old mice of the FGT group were given one 10 mg/kg dose of Douchi Hataedock extract and resensitized to allergic antigens at weeks four, five, and six. Allergic rhinitis was induced primarily in mice nasal cavities for five days after one week of final sensitization. The second induction used the same method one week after the first induction was completed. After one week, the nasal mucosal tissues of each group were observed. Immunohistochemical staining for IL-4, STAT6, CD40, $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$, substance P, MMP-9, $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65, p-IkB, and iNOS in the nasal mucosa was also performed. Results: The FGT group had less respiratory epithelial damage and less mucin secretion in goblet cells than the ARE group and showed a 62% decrease in IL-4, 85% decrease in STAT6, 71% decrease in CD40, 69% decrease in $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$, 43% decrease in substance P, 49% decrease in MMP-9, 43% decrease in NF-kB p65, 38% decrease in p-IkB, and 73% decrease in iNOS compared to the ARE group. Conclusions: Douchi Hataedock lessens inflammation in epithelial and goblet cells and reduces inflammatory mediator secretion in a mouse allergic rhinitis model.

두시 하태독법이 시행된 비만 생쥐에서 Th2 분화조절을 통한 알러지성 비염 유발 감소 효과 (Effects of Douchi Hataedock Treatment on Induction of Allergic Rhinitis in Obese Induced NC/Nga Mice)

  • Objectives This study investigated the effects of Hataedock treatment with Douchi on induction of allergic rhinitis in obese induced NC/Nga mice. Methods NC/Nga mice were divided into control group (Ctrl), allergic rhinitis induced obese mice group (ARE), and allergic rhinitis induced obese mice group with Douchi Hataedock treatment (FGT). The 3-week-old mice of the FGT group were given one 10 mg/kg dose of Douchi Hataedock extract and sensitized with allergic antigens at weeks 4, 5, and 6. After 1 week of final sensitization, allergic rhinitis was induced primarily in mice nasal cavities for five days. After one week of the completion with the first induction, the second induction was introduced by the same method. After 1 week, few samples of the nasal mucosal tissues of each group were prepared. The factor of Th2 differentiation and inflammation control such that IL-4, STAT6, CD40, $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$, substance P, MMP-9, $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65, p-IkB, iNOS and COX-2 were observed by immunohistochemistry. Also, the difference in nasal mucosal injury was observed by histochemical method (PAS staining). Results The FGT group showed that reduced IL-4 production, STAT6 expression and CD40 expression by regulating excessive Th2 differentiation. Also, production of substance P and MMP-9 and activity of $Fc{\varepsilon}RI$ in mast cells were decreased. Inhibition of $NF-{\kappa}B$ p65 activity was induced by inhibition of p-IkB, and the production of inflammatory enzymes iNOS and COX-2 were decreased. In addition, the damage of intramural respiratory epithelium was low and excessive mucin secretion in goblet cells was low. Conclusions This study confirmed the possibility of controlling the allergic rhinitis in obese children who are expected to have an overactive inflammation.

방풍(防風)의 난알부민 유도 알레르기 비염 마우스에서의 항알레르기 효능 연구 (Effects of Saposhnikoviae Radix on allergic responses in OVA-induced Allergic rhinitis mice)

  • Objectives : In this study, we investigated the effect of Saposhnikoviae Radix on allergic responses in ovalbumin(OVA)-induced Allergic rhinitis(AR) mice. Methods : BALB/c mice were orally administrated with Saposhnikoviae Radix water extract (SRW, 50 mg/kg) or anti-histamine drug, Ketotifen (10 mg/kg) as a reference drug, followed by sensitization and challenge of OVA. Mice were measured clinical symptoms and the serum levels of histamine, IgE, IL-4, and IFN-${\gamma}$, and observed histopathological changes of nasal mucosa H&E staining. Results : SRW significantly decreased rubs and the serum levels of histamine, IgE, and IL-4, and then increased the serum levels of IFN-${\gamma}$ in OVA-induced AR mice, and inhibited histopathological changes of nasal mucosa with inflammation and the eosinophils infilteration. Conclusions : These data suggest that SRW has anti-allergic effect through the inhibitory property of Saposhnikoviae Radix against allergic responses in allergic rhinitis.

알레르기 비염치료에 대한 보중익기탕춘방의 작용 해석 (Interpretation on Effects of Boiungikgitangchunbang on Allergic Rhinitis Treatment)

  • This study was designed to understand the patho-physioloigcal mechanism of effects of Bojungikitangchunbang on Allergic Rhinitis. The mechanism was examined in three parts of concept of allergic rhinitis, composition of prescription, and concept of ascending and descending principle. And the relationship between the thoracic cavity and the abdominal cavity during respiration was also explored. The mechanism of Bojungikgitangchunbang on rhinitis treatment was systematically analyzed from the pathophysiological perspectives, and it was found to treat nose, spleen and lungs related to the ascending and descending principle. The water-dampness and edema causing allergic rhinitis are formed by disturbed ascending and descending mechanism when the Junggi goes down. The Bojungikgitangchunbang eliminates water-dampness and edema by ascending the troubled Junggi.

석창포가 알레르기성 비염 유발 동물 모델에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Acorus gramineus on Changes of Nasal Tissue in Allergic Rhinitis Model)

  • Background & Objectives : Rhinitis is an inflammation of nasal mucosa. The major symtoms are watery rhinorrhea, sneezing, itchy nose, and nasal obstruction. Allergic rhinitis is an immune reaction by allergen. So, we aimed to determine therapeutic effects of Acorus gramineus by observing changes in IL-4, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and the nasal mucosal tissue. Materials and Methods : Fifteen BALC/c mice were divided into three groups : m group(which ate low concentrated herbal medicine ), M group(which ate high concentrated herbal medicine) and control group. Control and experimental group were induced allergic rhinitis by Ovalbumin as the method of Levin and Vaz. Experimental group was orally administered the Acorus gramineus extract for 28days. We observed changes in IL-4, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and trans aminase(AST, ALT) in blood and nasal mucosa and submucosa. Results : There were no significant changes statistically in IL-4 and $IFN-{\gamma}$ in blood(p<0.05). And there were no hepatotoxicity with Acorus gramineus extract. Histologically, almost no inflammatory response in treatment group(m,M) against that there were inflammatory response(increased goblet cells, dilated vessels, edema of bowman's glands and injured olfactory hairs) in control group. Conclusion : According to above results, it is supposed that Acorus gramineus has no immunological effects on allergic rhinitis.

알레르기 비염 유발 생쥐에 대한 형개연교탕(荊芥連翹湯)의 iNOS 생성 억제 효과 (The Effects of Hyunggaeyungyo-tang of Suppression of iNOS Production on Mice with Allergic Rhinitis)

  • Background and Objectives : Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common diseases in the otorhinolaryngology area. in oriental clinic, Hyunggaeyungyo-tang(HYT) has been used as a primary prescription to treat allergic rhinitis. However, there have been no studies so far performed on the effect of this HYT use. The purpose of this study was find out therapeutic effects of its exclusive use on the rat with allergic rhinitis. Material and Methods : Thirty BALB/c mice were divided into three group : normal group(NOR), control group(CON) inoculated with allergic rhinitis and sample group(SAM) treated with the HYT extract after it was treated the same as the control group. Rats were sensitized intraperitoneally with ovalbumin solution 4times at intervals of 2 days. After that time, rats in SAM were administered by HYT to treat the inflammation. Results : 1. The number of eosinophil in SAM noticeably decreased than CON and this decrease had probability. The inhibition of eosinophil distribution. The infiltration of eosinophil in SAM noticeably decreased than CON. 2. The damaged mucosa as disruption of cilia in respiratory cell, vacant mucose secreting cell and infiltration of inflammation intricate cells in CON were increased than NOR, but SAM same as normal configuration. Decrease of icthing and sneezing intricate neurotransmitter (substance P). Decrease of angiogenesis intricate cytokine(MIP-2). 3. Transcription factor(NF-${\kappa}B$ p65) was decreased. 4. Transcription factor inhibitor(p-$I{\kappa}B$) was decreased. 5. Inflammation cytokine(iNOS) was decreased. Conclusion : The results suggest that HYT is significantly effective in the treatment of inflammation caused by allergic rhinitis through the suppression of NF-${\kappa}B$ activation and iNOS production.
