An adaptive load balancing method for RFID middlewares based on the Standard Architecture (RFID 미들웨어 표준 아키텍처에 기반한 적응적 부하 분산 방법)

  • Because of its capability of automatic identification of objects, RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) technologies have extended their application areas to logistics, healthcare, and food management system. Load balancing is a basic technique for improving scalability of systems by moving loads of overloaded middlewares to under loaded ones. Adaptive load balancing has been known to be effective for distributed systems of a large load variance under unpredictable situations. There are needs for applying load balancing to RFID middlewares because they must efficiently treat vast numbers of RFID tags which are collected from multiple RFID readers. Because there can be a large amount of variance in loads of RFID middlewares which are difficult to predict, it is desirable to consider adaptive load balancing approach for RFID middlewares, which can dynamically choose a proper load balancing strategy depending on the current load. This paper proposes an adaptive load balancing approach for RFID middlewares and presents its design and implementation. First we decide a performance model by a experiment with a real RFID middleware. Then, a set of proper load balancing strategies for high/medium/low system loads is determined from a simulation of various load balancing strategies based on the performance model.

  • The proposed system can achieve more safety of RFID system with the 2-step authentication procedures for the enhancement about the security of general RFID systems. After it has authenticated RFID tag, additionally, the proposed system extract the characteristic information in the user image for acquisition of the additional authentication information of the user with the camera. In this paper, the system which was proposed more enforce the security of the automatic entrance and exit authentication system with the cognitive characters of RFID tag and the extracted characteristic information of the user image through the camera. The RFID system which use the active tag and reader with 2.4GHz bandwidth can recognize the tag of RFID in the various output manner. Additionally, when the RFID system have errors. the characteristic information of the user image is designed to replace the RFID system as it compare with the similarity of the color, outline and input image information which was recorded to the database previously. In the experimental result, the system can acquire more exact results as compared with the single authentication system when it using RFID tag and the information of color characteristics.

  • In this study, a customized semi-passive RFID receiver module was implemented for in-VIVO deep tissue photo-therapy. A novel wireless technique is required due to a limitation of RF communication in body environment, as internal body has a complex structure such as, skin, fat, skeleton, water, and so on. Recently, coherently incoherent beamforming (CIB) based on RFID was introduced and it is able to transmit wireless signal with high reliability under the incoherent condition such as in-VIVO deep tissue. The proposed miniature photo capsule based on RFID consists of miniature controller, ultra small LED array and wireless RFID chip. RF Reader can access with standard RFID protocol (ISO 18000-6c) using UHF RFID antenna, a control command is wirelessly writtern on USER Bank memory. With received control command, therapy LED array dims with mulilevel under timer control. The signal process of designed RFID photo therapy capsule is analyzed and evaluated under the various environments in detailed.

  • 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경에서 공통적으로 필요로 하는 요구는 사물의 이동을 자동으로 인식하고 위치론 파악하는 것이고 이를 위해서 현재 RFID를 통한 사물의 인식이 각광을 받고 있다. 하지만 RFID에 기반한 어플리케이션은 일반 어플리케이션과는 달리 태그 인식에 의한 실시간 이벤트의 처리가 가장 중요하며, 이로 인해서 RFID 어플리케이션에는 실시간 이벤트 모니터링과 실시간 이벤트 처리, 비동기 이벤트 처리, 멀티 쓰레딩, 분산 처리 등이 반드시 필요하다. 이러한 RFID 어플리케이션의 특성 때문에 RFID 어플리케이션은 일반 어플리케이션과는 다른 구조가 요구된다. 이에 돈 논문에서는 RFID 어플리케이션에서 공통적으로 요구되는 컴포넌트들을 추출하고 이를 효과적으로 결합하기 위한 프레임웍을 설계, 구현하였다.

  • 본 논문은 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시대를 열어가는 유비쿼터스의 핵심 기술인 RFID 시스템의 구성요소 중 하나인 Type B RFID 태그를 설계하였다. RFID 태그는 전원공급 여부에 따라 능동형과 수동형으로 구분한다. 본 논문에서는 현재의 IT분야에서의 RFID 시장과 연구동향에 맞춰 수동형 Type B RFID 태그의 Digital 파트를 설계하고, 성능을 검증하였으며, 향후 RFID 시스템의 연구방향에 대해서도 제시하였다.

  • 최근 UHF 대역에서 동작하는 RFID 시스템이 활발히 연구되고 있으며, 유통물류 분야를 시작으로 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 특히, 국내에서는 휴대폰과 RFID를 결합한 모바일 RFID 시스템을 도입하고 있으므로 가까운 미래에 RFID의 도입이 크게 확대될 것으로 기대되고 있다. 하지만 UHF RFID 시스템의 경우 Link Unbalance특성에 의해 주파수 간섭 등의 문제가 대두되어 전세계적으로 Dense 모드의 도입 및 기술기준 개정 움직임이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 고에서는 UHF RFID 시스템에서 발생하는 주파수 간섭에 대해 알아보고, 국내외 UHF RFID Air Interface 기술의 최신 동향을 살펴보고자 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 의류 산업에 있어서의 RFID 응용에 대해 고찰한다. RFID의 유래 및 정의, 특성을 고찰하고, RFID의 국내외 동향을 검토한후, RFID 응용 서비스의 고도화 모델에 대해 논한다. 그리고 나서, 지금 위기에 빠져 있는 국내의 섬유 산업과 유사한 환경에 처했던 미국 등 선진국의 대처 방법을 논한 후에, 의류 산업에 있어서의 RFID 응용성을 검토한다.

  • RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is use of an RFID tag applied to object for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Recently, it is being actively researched and introduced in logistics and manufacturing. RFID portals in supply chains are meant to identify all the tags within a given interrogation zone. Hence the hardware and software mechanisms for RFID tag identification mostly focus on successful read of multiple tags simultaneously. Such mechanisms, however, are inefficient for determining moving direction of tags, sequence of consecutive tags, and validity of the tag reads from the viewpoint of workflow. These types of problems usually cause many difficulties in RFID portal implementation in manufacturing environment, there by having RFID-system developers waste a considerable amount of time. In this research, we designated an RFID portal system with SDO(Sequence, Direction, and Object-flow)-perception capability by using fundamental data supplied by ordinary RFID readers. Using our work, RFID system developers can save a great amount of time building RFID data-capturing applications in manufacturing environment.

  • RFID has substituted for a Bar Code to conduct real time data collection and data process in various fields including logistics, electronic, medical treatment, car, textile, steel industry at the business level. Although implementation and use of RFID has been facilitated constantly, the majority of businesses hesitate to implement RFID system. Hence in this study, we conducted a performance evaluation through quantitative/qualitative analysis on case studies in various industries. This study results could be utilized as basic data for RFID system diffusion, and it will primarily contribute to spread of RFID system implementation.

  • As a key technology of U-health, RFID can be applied to the hospitals in a variety of cases such as patient tracking, medical instrument management, and so on. However, adoption of RFID in healthcare does not reach expectations because of huge cost. Exact estimation of cost and effectiveness will boost adoption of RFID in healthcare. This study proposes a novel simulation technique to evaluate cost and effectiveness of RFID in hospital environment. To do this, this study proposes a technique for modeling patients' movements in a hospital. Based on the model, this study provides how to obtain tag event dataset by means of simulating identifications of RFID tags that are attached to patients.
