심화독서용 서평에 관한 연구 (A Study on Book Reviews for Further Readings)

  • 서평은 도서의 내용과 서지정보를 제공하여 자료선택의 기회를 제공하고, 더 나아가 독자들에게 풍부한 독서의 경험을 지원하여 독자지원서비스의 기능을 수행한다. 특히 어린이 독서분야는 문학 장치를 활용하여 지식과 정보를 전달하는 특수성으로, 한 권의 독서에서 그치는 것이 아니라 풍부한 비교독서를 통하여 문학적 상상력이 확대될 수 있도록 추가적인 읽기를 지원하여야 한다. 이에 어린이문학작품 중 "빨간 모자"를 사례로, 독서 심화로의 안내를 위한 서평의 '문헌적 비교' 항목 부문에서 다루어야 할 사항은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대상 도서의 내용을 객관적으로 기술한다. 둘째, "빨간 모자"의 문학사적 가치와 담론을 제시하여 여타의 작품들과의 차이와 독창성을 분석할 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, "빨간 모자"의 서사 구조가 변용된 여타의 작품군(群)에 관한 서지정보를 제공한다. 넷째, 서사적 구조뿐 아니라 물리적 형태의 변용된 작품이 있을 경우 함께 소개하여 선택과 독서로의 접근의 폭을 넓힌다.

과학문장 읽기를 통한 학생들의 과학적 이해 과정 분석 - 문헌 연구를 중심으로 - (Analysis of Processes in Students' Scientific Understanding Through Reading Scientific Texts -Focused on Literature Review-)

  • 과학문장은 과학적 이해를 위한 중요한 정보원이고 따라서 과학문장 읽기는 과학적 이해를 위해 중요한 학습활동 중의 하나이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 국내에서는 과학문장 읽기에 대한 연구가 거의 없었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 문헌 연구를 통해 6개(소항목 10개)로 구성된 과학문장의 구성요소와 5개 (소항목 18개)로 구성된 과학문장의 기능에 대한 종합적인 리스트를 제안하였다. 그리고 과학문장의 구조와 흥미, 친숙도, 비유 등이 과학문장 이해에 미치는 영향을 문헌 조사하여 종합 정리하였다. 본 연구는 과학문장 읽기에 대한 일련의 연구의 첫출발이다. 따라서 어떠한 후속연구가 진행되고 또 진행될 것인지도 함께 소개하였다.

A Review of an Enhancement Course for College Students' Standardized English Test

  • This study reviews an English enhancement course implemented for medical and nursing college students of 2011 to improve their standardized English test scores. A total of 117 first-year students underwent the pre-test and the post-TOEIC in November 2011. After the pre-test, lectures on listening enhancement strategies and problem solving tactics on reading comprehension were supplemented with 4 times of enhancement-tests. Their pre- and post-TOEIC results were compared to see if such enhancement strategies were effective to improve their TOEIC scores. It was further to investigate, through survey questionnaires, how the subjects felt about a number of pre-test-type TOEIC exercise with what-to-listen and how-to-infer listening strategies and pattern-drill practices for reading comprehension. It was found that the scores of listening comprehension improved significantly for both major students whereas reading scores showed slight decrease among nursing majors. It is concluded that administering numerous pre-test-type-TOEIC exercise is effective for students to improve their listening scores supplemented with listening strategies Also, students' response showed positive toward the enhancement course.

장내세균에서 ${\beta}$-lactam 항균제의 내성기전별 항균제 감수성검사의 해석 (Interpretation of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test According to Resistance Mechanism of ${\beta}$-lactam in Enterobacteriacae)

  • It is important to select appropriate antimicrobials for the treatment of infection according to the results of antimicrobial susceptibility tests (ASTs), yet the clinical isolates are sometimes susceptible to antibiotics that are clinically ineffective or this is due to technical error of the ASTs. So, interpretive reading of ASTs is needed and especially for the ${\beta}$-lactams for treating $Enterobacteriacae$. This review describes the interpretive reading of ASTs according to natural antimicrobial resistance and the mechanisms of mechanisms, with giving special attention to the antibiotics phenotypes for $Enterobacteriacae$. Further, as all the diffent tissues have a different antimicrobial concentration for identical antimicrobials, more information is needed on the antimicrobial tissue distribution for the appropriate treatment of infection. 온라인 리뷰의 경제적 효과, 유용성과 유용성 투표수에 영향을 주는 결정요인 (The Determinant Factors Affecting Economic Impact, Helpfulness, and Helpfulness Votes of Online)

  • More and more people are gravitating to reading products reviews prior to making purchasing decisions. As a number of reviews that vary in usefulness are posted every day, much attention is being paid to measuring their helpfulness. The goal of this paper is to investigate firstly various determinants of the helpfulness of reviews, and intends to examine the moderating effect of product type, i.e., search or experience goods on the product sales, helpfulness and helpfulness votes of online reviews. The determinants include product data, review characteristics, and textual characteristics of reviews. The results indicate that the direct effect exists for the determinants of product sales, helpfulness, and helpfulness votes. Further, the moderating effects of product type exist for these determinants on three dependent variables. The results of study will identify helpful online review and design review sites effectively.

『동의수세보원(東醫壽世保元)』 해석의 몇 가지 문제들 (Some Problems of Reading Donguisusebowon)

  • Objectives Two conflicting readings of "Donguisusebowon" so far have been presented that Sasang Constitutional Medicine inherited the traditional Five Elements theory and that it was a new perspective on its own right. The main purpose of this paper is to review the theoretical ground of Sasang Constitutional Medicine to see whether it has inherited the Traditional Korean Medicine, and show that it had been developed as an original view independent of the Five Elements theory. Methods To do this, I inquired into the theoretical background of Sasang Constitutional Medicine as well as its philosophical premises and its leading ideas. Results and Conclusions As a result, I have found that Sasang Constitutional Medicine is an original medical theory developed in empirical terms on its own right, divorced from the transcendental view of the Five Elements theory, while borrowing some concepts from I-Ching and Neo-Confucianism only for technical tools. In short, Sasang Constitutional Medicine may well be put as calling for a reappraisal of the Han-medical and Confucian accounts of human being, and a transition from speculative method based on the Five Elements theory to a verifiable empirical method. In this vein, my reading of Sasang Constitutional Medicine in empirical perspective may well be appraised as presenting a new way to further inquiries into the theoretical nature of it, and to getting itself across with Western medicine as well.

Dynamics of ARF regulation that control senescence and cancer

  • ARF is an alternative reading frame product of the INK4a/ARF locus, inactivated in numerous human cancers. ARF is a key regulator of cellular senescence, an irreversible cell growth arrest that suppresses tumor cell growth. It functions by sequestering MDM2 (a p53 E3 ligase) in the nucleolus, thus activating p53. Besides MDM2, ARF has numerous other interacting partners that induce either cellular senescence or apoptosis in a p53-independent manner. This further complicates the dynamics of the ARF network. Expression of ARF is frequently disrupted in human cancers, mainly due to epigenetic and transcriptional regulation. Vigorous studies on various transcription factors that either positively or negatively regulate ARF transcription have been carried out. However, recent focus on posttranslational modifications, particularly ubiquitination, indicates wider dynamic controls of ARF than previously known. In this review, we discuss the role and dynamic regulation of ARF in senescence and cancer.

The translational landscape as regulated by the RNA helicase DDX3

  • Continuously renewing the proteome, translation is exquisitely controlled by a number of dedicated factors that interact with the ribosome. The RNA helicase DDX3 belonging to the DEAD box family has emerged as one of the critical regulators of translation, the failure of which is frequently observed in a wide range of proliferative, degenerative, and infectious diseases in humans. DDX3 unwinds double-stranded RNA molecules with coupled ATP hydrolysis and thereby remodels complex RNA structures present in various protein-coding and noncoding RNAs. By interacting with specific features on messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA), DDX3 facilitates translation, while repressing it under certain conditions. We review recent findings underlying these properties of DDX3 in diverse modes of translation, such as cap-dependent and cap-independent translation initiation, usage of upstream open reading frames, and stress-induced ribonucleoprotein granule formation. We further discuss how disease-associated DDX3 variants alter the translation landscape in the cell.

A Review of Dose Rate Meters as First Responders to Ionising Radiation

  • Background: Dose rate meters are the most widely used, and perhaps one of the most important tools for the measurement of ionising radiation. They are often the first, or only, device available to a user for an instant check of radiation dose at a certain location. Throughout the world, radiation safety practices rely strongly on the output of these dose rate meters. But how well do we know the quality of their output? Materials and Methods: This review is based on the measurements 1,158 commercially available dose rate meters of 116 different makes and models. Expected versus the displayed dose patterns and consistency was checked at various dose rates between $5{\mu}Gy{\cdot}h^{-1}$ and $2mGy{\cdot}h^{-1}$. Samples of these meters were then selected for further investigation and were exposed to radiation sources covering photon energies from 50 keV to 1.5 MeV. The effect of detector orientation on its reading was also investigated. Rather than focusing on the angular response distribution that is often reported by the manufacturer of the device, this study focussed on the design ergonomics i.e. the angles that the operator will realistically use to measure a dose rate. Results and Discussion: This review shows the scope and boundaries of the ionising radiation dose rate estimations that are made using commonly available meters. Observations showed both inter and intra make and model variations, occasional cases of instrument failure, instrument walk away, and erroneous response. Conclusion: The results indicate the significance of selecting and maintaining suitable monitors for specific applications in radiation safety.

Incredible RNA: Dual Functions of Coding and Noncoding

  • Since the RNA world hypothesis was proposed, a large number of regulatory noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been identified in many species, ranging from microorganisms to mammals. During the characterization of these newly discovered RNAs, RNAs having both coding and noncoding functions were discovered, and these were considered bifunctional RNAs. The recent use of computational and high-throughput experimental approaches has revealed increasing evidence of various sources of bifunctional RNAs, such as protein-coding mRNAs with a noncoding isoform and long ncRNAs bearing a small open reading frame. Therefore, the genomic diversity of Janusfaced RNA molecules that have dual characteristics of coding and noncoding indicates that the functional roles of RNAs have to be revisited in cells on a genome-wide scale. Such studies would allow us to further understand the complex gene-regulatory network in cells. In this review, we discuss three major genomic sources of bifunctional RNAs and present a handful of examples of bifunctional RNA along with their functional roles.
