Serendipity: The Effect of Technological Features in Social Curation Websites (소셜 큐레이션 웹사이트의 기능적 특성과 그 효과에 관한 연구: "뜻밖의 발견"을 중심으로)

  • A recent interesting user experience in social curation websites is that they often encounter unanticipated, valuable information through accidental, incidental, or serendipitous discoveries. Prior research suggests that serendipity can help solve a problem, generate a creative idea, and invent a new product because it allows for an intellectual leap to arrive at a novel insight that is suddenly instrumental to a task. Despite the significant roles, the notion of serendipity is relatively unexplored especially in the context where people actually experience it, such as social curation websites. In this study, we theoretically identified the key technological features of social curation websites, which support three major curation activities respectively: browsing, collection, and interaction. We then examined their impacts on the occurrence of serendipitous discoveries in the process of information seeking. Our results using data collected from real users reveal that the technological features all affected user experience of serendipity and the interaction feature has stronger impacts than the other two. Moreover, it was also found that user experience of serendipity significantly affected website usage behavior such as intention to return and intention to contribute to the website.

Study on Selection Factor in Choosing Dental Clinic (치과의료기관의 선택요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined and analyzed the demographical characteristics of the study target and their expectancy level on the factors in selecting dental medical institutes (basic elements of dental clinics, traffic convenience, physical environment of dental clinic and explicit qualification of dentist) with the questionnaire survey method with 222 questionnaires answered and returned (return rate 88.8%) out of 250 copies distributed to the 1st, 2nd and 3rdyear college students attending technical colleges located in Cheongwon-Gun, Chungbuk, Korea from March 26 to April 7, 2009. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The demographical characteristics of the study target group consisting of 225 college students include 92.3% of age 20s (205 students); 123 males (55.4%) and 99 females (44.6%); the number of those who had at least one experience to visit dental clinic was 199 (89.6%) and 23 (10.4%) of those with no-visiting experience. 2. The descriptive statistics for the selection factor showed that basic elements, traffic convenience, physical environment and explicit qualification of dentist were regarded important as in order. In particular, the factors considered in selecting dental clinic was ordered from most to least in their importance beginning with cleanness of dental clinic as the most important factor, dentist's trustworthiness, kindness of medical staffs, low medical fee, dentist's knowledge level, modernized medical equipments and convenience in using medical facilities as the least. On the contrary, brand name of dental clinic, age, college, sex and appearance of dentist were rated low in order in terms of their importance in selecting dental clinic. 3. As for the difference in the selection factors across demographical characteristics, while male students placed importance on traffic convenience and physical environment of dental clinic, female students placed more importance on dentist's qualification and basic elements of dental clinic. With respect to the difference in the selection factors across the visiting experiences, while those with visiting experience regard traffic convenience more importantly, those without visiting experience regarded physical environment of dental clinic, dentist's qualification and basic elements of dental clinic. 4. In terms of pearson correlation coefficient, the result showed that all aspects in selecting dental clinic were positively correlated. Particularly, the correlation between physical environment of dental clinic and dentist's explicit qualification were correlated highest. Significant positive correlations were found high in traffic convenience, physical environment of dental clinic, dentist's explicit qualification and basic elements of dental clinic in order.

A Study on Effects of Experiential Value of Hotel users for 5 Star Hotels on Usage Satisfaction and Continuous Usage Intention (특급호텔 이용객의 경험가치가 이용만족과 지속적 이용의도에 미치는 영향관계 연구)

  • To continue the growth of use of 5-star hotels by Koreans, who have recently shown the consumption trends pursuing the empirical value of a consumption process, and have turned into core customers of 5-star hotels in Seoul, it is necessary to study factors of experience value pursued by Koreans. As a result, fantasy is identified as a major leading factor in usage satisfaction among experiencial values. So it is important to reflect special concepts and atmospheres for emotional values, such as other world experience, new experience, and high-quality experience. And consumer return on investment was identified as a leading factor in positively affecting usage satisfaction. So it is important to develope a proper products that can enough benefits with reasonable prices. In the relationship between usage satisfaction and continuous usage intention, gender characteristics and occupational characteristics were found to play a moderating role. Male customers, and those with professional and self-employed occupations, were found to have higher continuous usage intention than females and other occupational customers. This is a result of the fact that customers with an economical power are likely to be continuous repeat customers of 5-star hotels, so the necessity of strengthening marketing activities such as research on the development of more differentiated and specialized products, service creation and atmosphere production for excellent consumers group.

Modulation of the Somatotropic Axis in Periparturient Dairy Cows

  • This review focuses on modulation of growth hormone (GH) and its downstream actions on periparturient dairy cows undergoing physiological and metabolic adaptations. During the periparturient period, cows experience a negative energy balance implicating that the feed intake does not meet the total energy demand for the onset of lactation. To regulate this metabolic condition, key hormones of somatotropic axis such as GH, IGF-I and insulin must coordinate adaptations required for the preservation of metabolic homeostasis. The hepatic GHR1A transcript and GHR protein are reduced at parturition, but recovers on postpartum. However, plasma IGF-I concentration remains low even though hepatic abundance of the GHR and IGF-I mRNA return to pre-calving value. This might be caused by alternation in IGFBPs and ALS genes, which consequently affect the plasma IGF-I stability. Plasma insulin level declines in a parallel manner with the decrease in plasma IGF-I after parturition. Increased GH stimulates the lipolytic effects and hepatic glucose synthesis to meet the energy requirement for mammary lactose synthesis, suggesting that GH antagonizes insulin-dependent glucose uptake and attenuates insulin action to decrease gluconeogenesis.

A Study on Service Recovery and Customer Behavior from Service Failure (서비스 실패에 따른 서비스 회복과 고객행동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to prove that the appropriate fit between service failure and recovery strategy can efficiently maximize customer satisfaction and behavioral intention, by using the prepared scenario through comprehensive approach concerning how the expectation level of service recovery has influence on perceived fairness, satisfaction and behavioral intention of service recovery based upon size in case of service failure. This study has been conducted by way of selection of filling-up type questionnaires for customers themselves who have experience in service failure out of customers who can easily visit family and hotel restaurants, that is, domestic restaurants in Seoul area, $June{\sim}August$ 2004, by setting factorial design of 2(control, severeness)$\times$3(distributive fairness, procedural fairness, mutual relational fairness)$\times$2(customer satisfaction, customer behavior). The survey was performed on the customers who visited common restaurants, family restaurants, hotel restaurants, etc. mainly in Seoul, and total 600 sheets of questionnaires were distributed and 496 sheets of them were returned(82.67% of return ratio). Research findings are as follows; First, perceived recovery justice has an effect on customer satisfaction and behavioral intention. Second, customer satisfaction and restaurant satisfaction have positive influence on behavioral intention. The results will be helpful for them to develop a further service failure and recovery framework. For service marketing managers, the results will suggest specific guidelines for establishing service recovery strategies.

Automatic identification of Java Method Naming Patterns Using Cascade K-Medoids

  • This paper suggests an automatic approach to extracting Java method implementation patterns associated with method identifiers using Cascade K-Medoids. Java method implementation patterns indicate recurring implementations for achieving the purpose described in the method identifier with the given parameters and return type. If the implementation is different from the purpose, readers of the code tend to take more time to comprehend the method, which eventually affects to the increment of software maintenance cost. In order to automatically identify implementation patterns and its representative sample code, we first propose three groups of feature vectors for characterizing the Java method signature, method body and their relation. Then, we apply Cascade K-Medoids by enhancing the K-Medoids algorithm with the Calinski and Harrabasez algorithm. As the evaluation of our approach, we identified 16,768 implementation patterns of 7,169 method identifiers from 50 open source projects. The implementation patterns have been validated by the 30 industrial practitioners with from 1 to 6 years industrial experience, resulting in 86% of the precision.

  • Anterior tibial diaphyseal stress fracture have a propensity for delayed union or nonunion and have risk of complete fracture after minor trauma. So, careful evaluation and optimal management are mandatory to succeed in treatment. It is also important to decide the point of time of return to full activity. We report experience of treatment for complete fracture of the delayed union of anterior tibial diaphyseal stress fracture as an athletic injury.

Does Multinationality Matter the Firm Performance?

  • Purpose - The relationship between multinationality and performance has become a hot topic in academic circles and is very important for multinational firms, especially for Chinese multinational firms, who need more experience to enter the international market. Given this background, this paper attempts to figure out the importance of multinationality to China's firm performance and to explore whether the Four-stage Theory can also be applied to China's firms. Research design, data, and methodology - We employ the panel data of 435 multinational firms from 2008 to 2017 chosen from China's A-shares to conduct an empirical analysis by using a fixed-effects model. In the paper, the performance is represented by ROA (return on assets), treated as a dependent variable, and multinationality is represented by FSTS (foreign sales/total sales), treated as an independent variable. Results - We find that the performance first decreases then rises, then falls down, and rises again in the end. Hence there is a W-shaped relationship between the multinationality of the Chinese manufacturing industries and firm performance, proving that the four-stage theory is also applicable to Chinese multinational firms. Conclusions - These empirical results can provide some advice for policymakers to improve the firm performance such as reducing the logistics cost of multinationality.

Exploring customer delight experiences in online shopping malls (온라인 쇼핑몰에서의 고객 감동경험 고찰)

  • Though customer delight is becoming one of the most important marketing key words, research in a retail setting is limited. With the dramatic growth of online retail shopping, this study explored customer delight experiences in online shopping malls by identifying the delight elements and analyzing the elements by online purchase steps. A total of 124 delight experiences collected from an unstructured questionnaire were content-analyzed. Delight elements in online shopping were categorized into service, product, price, delivery, package, and shopping mall operation in that order. Service related elements including free gifts and letters, recovery efforts for service failure, kind employees, and easy return were most frequently observed. Delights were experienced at the product receiving point, the prior-to-purchase point, the order-to-delivery point, and the post-purchase point in that order. The results revealed that customer delights in online shopping were experienced in various purchase steps by various marketing elements. Based on the results the study provided research propositions exploring the effects of expectation vs surprise, monetary vs non-monetary/emotional benefits/rewards, and core marketing elements vs augmented services on delight experiences.

A study on the analysis effectiveness of the virtual welding simulator for welding manpower development (용접인력양성을 위한 가상용접훈련 시뮬레이터 효과성 분석)

  • Welding is one of the most fundamental and necessary work in the industry that demand sophistication of skilled workers. This study is to introduce welding simulator as a training tool, to verify its effectiveness and to measure satisfaction of the trainees. A group of freshman students at a Korea Polytechnics College in their twenties with less experience of welding participated in the study. They were divided into two groups and took a traditional training course (comparison group) and a training course with welding simulator applied reality/haptic technology (experimental group) for same hours respectively. To evaluate training effect, a national certificate test and a survey based on Phillips' ROI (Return on Investment) methodology were conducted by the students and the college respectively. And satisfaction survey among the students based on Kirkpatrick's Four-Level Evaluation Model was also carried out. The results showed that all students in the experimental group passed the national certificate test and the ROI of the experimental group for five years were 110% higher than the comparison group. Furthermore, 25% more students in the experimental group replied "very satisfied" about the overall training course and 75% more students in the same group found that the simulation was very similar to the real welding.
