  • Sedirea japonica is one of the critically endangered species in South Korea mostly due to artificial harms such as illegal collection and habitat destruction. Therefore, artificial propagation through improving germination rate, increasing growth, and controlling flowering is meaningful for the conservation and reintroduction of S. japonica. It is suggested that cytokinins are one of the multi-factors that contribute to plant growth and floral responses. Especially, exogenous cytokinins have been known to induce or promote shoot growth or earlier flowering in orchids. Therefore, it was investigated how the application of 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) influenced the growth and inflorescence of S. japonica. A foliar spray containing BA at 100, 200, 300, and 400 ppm was applied from 1st July to 30th December 2021. Leaf length, leaf length growth rate, leaf width, and width and length ratio were measured as growth-related factors. Visible inflorescence rate, inflorescence length, the number of flowers per inflorescence, and the distance between the stalks were measured as flowering-related factors. Growth-related factors except for leaf growth rate were not affected by BA treatments, while leaf growth rate was significantly increased by 200 ppm of BA treatment. The visible inflorescence rate increased by 200 ppm of BA treatment, and there seems an optimal concentration and threshold of BA treatment. An iterative experiment with more seedlings and measurement factors would be helpful to figure out the effects of exogenous BA treatment on S. japonica, and it can be applied for mass propagation.

  • This study aimed to determine a method for restoring grasslands to forests in mountainous areas. The study was conducted in an area damaged by trampling due to construction activity and herding. Additionally, there were concerns of hindered tree growth due to the alpine region climate, characterized by the low temperatures, drying, and strong winds. Therefore, forest restoration treatments such as tillage, furrow, and shading were performed to improve growth conditions. From July 2021 to April 2023, soil temperature and moisture were monitored for each treatment plot, and changes in the initial growth and survival rate of Abies holophylla were investigated. Both soil temperature and soil moisture showed significantly higher values during the four seasons in the grassland-furrow treatment plot (p < 0.05). Compared to the grassland-control plot, the average soil temperature in winter was as high as 1.1℃, and the soil moisture in summer was as high as 20.3%. Additionally, the survival rate and relative growth rate were the largest in the grassland-furrow treatment plot. The survival rate was 87.5%, the relative growth rate in terms of height was 0.013, and the relative growth rate in terms of diameter at root collar was 0.023, indicating that furrow treatment had a positive effect on the initial survival and growth of seedlings. These results suggest that furrow treatment may be an appropriate restoration method when implementing forest restoration projects in areas where tree growth is challenged.

  • Fault section isolation and service restoration are very important for function of DAS. In Japan, a progressive protection method is used for the line to ground fault section isolation and service restoration. But the progressive protection method has a drawback that the customer will experience outage time and that the rate in use of the feeder is not over 50%. This paper presents a new Service Restoration Algorithm which is for the line to ground fault section isolation and service restoration method for a ungrounded distribution system. If the proposed algorithm is used, the rate in use of the feeder can improve than before because a distribution system can change multi connection of feeder and the customer's outage time can be reduced. The proposed algorithm has been successfully tested in a distribution system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate economic feasibility of creating artificial tidal flats using cost-benefit analyses. We assumed that the cost factors are associated with designing, construction and monitoring, and the benefit factors are associated with fisheries production, habitation, prevention of disasters, water purification, aesthetic value and existence value. First, for analyzing economic feasibility, the scenario suggests that a design can be made in a year, construction can be completed in three years and monitoring must be made for 20 years. Assuming the discount rate of 7.5%, economic feasibility analyses showed that B/C was 2.26 and IRR was 14.50. This study indicated there is economic validity of implementing creation of artificial tidal flat. In addition, we carried out a sensitivity analysis at the change of discount rate and restoration rate. The result of sensitivity analysis clearly showed that economic validity is low when discount rate is over 15%, and changes in restoration rate did not significantly effect on the economic validity.

  • This study was carried out to develop the environmental friendly restoration technique for various disturbed slopes using native plants seed chips. As the result of the separated seeding using the developed seed chips of native plant combination, average germination rate and survival rate of trees, shrubs, and herbs were higher than those of the direct seeding, as 79~70%, 83~73%, and 59~53% or so, respectively. Also, the germination rates and the survival rates of trees, shrubs, and herbs in the separated seeding by the native plants seed chips were 10~15 times higher than those of the direct seeding. Numbers of plants survived were at least 10 times of that of the simple seeding. The native plants seed chip technique is more efficient in soil slopes compared with stone slopes. The application of the native plants seed chip technique makes the restoration stabilized through the herbs dominant vegetation to the woody dominant 1 within 3 years, and the Landscapes also changed from herbs to variously combined herbs and woody. The technique using native plants seed chips that can be applicable to various disturbed slops is more efficient than conventional restoration techniques in the respect of economics and landscape.

  • This paper proposes two types of sub-network based on dynamic restoration schemes to improve survivability of GMPLS networks and analyzes characteristics of these two schemes. The first proposed scheme divides with a whole GMPLS network into several sub-networks, applies a mixture of both restoration and protection methods according to fault location. The other scheme divides a whole GMPLS network into primary and secondary sub-networks, applies a restoration method in each sub-network according to fault location. In our simulation, we evaluate the performances of network resource utilization, restoration success rate, and mean restoration time and conduct its comparative analysis with conventional schemes. The simulation results show that the efficiency of network resource utilization in the proposed schemes is increased as compared with conventional restoration schemes (l+l, 1:1, 1:N) in case of single-failed link. By contrast, we found that the performances of restoration success rate and mean restoration time in case of multi-failed link is lower than conventional restoration schemes. However, the probability that multi-failed link is occurred is very low so that the problem in practical GMPLS network is negligible.

  • A gun barrel of infantry fighting vehicle is supported like a type of cantilever. Temperature of a gun barrel is increased by heat transfer due to the combustion of propellant charge during the firing. Thus, the muzzle of a gun barrel is deflected in accordance with its temperature and the accuracy rate is decreased by deflection of the muzzle. In this study, deflection of a gun barrel is estimated by measuring its restoration rate because measuring the deflection rate is difficult due to the vibration of the gun barrel during the firing. In order to obtain the relations between deflection rate and restoration rate of the 40mm gun barrel of Next Infantry Fighting Vehicle(NIFV) under varying temperature, measurement of deflection rate and restoration rate is carried out using 5.56mm Remington rifle barrel. Effect of the estimated deflection rate of a gun barrel of NIFV on the hit probability is also analyzed.

  • Although the frequency of composite resin restoration in children is gradually increasing, there are insufficient researches about the rate of composite resin repair in children. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repair rate of composite resin restorations in the permanent first molar in children under 12 years old. This study retrospectively analyzed 169 children treated with composite resin restoration in the permanent first molar from May 2014 to April 2015. According to the location of the tooth, the repair rate was higher in the mandible than maxilla and in the left than right. In the classification of restoration, the repair rate was the highest in the class II cavity, and the repair rate was the lowest in the restoration of the occlusal surface only. Repair rate in two years was 14.8%, and repair hazard ratio decreased with age. The most common reason of composite resin restoration replacement was the secondary caries (74.1%). Within the limits of study, the repair rate of children was higher than that of adult due to the characteristics of children. Therefore, dentists should understand these characteristics and try to reduce the repair rate of composite resin composite restorations.

  • This study was conducted to select environmentally-friendly and low-cost mulching material that could replace soil molding which can be used to restore vegetation in an abandoned coal mine area. To this end, we established 20 experimental plots (4m ${\times}$ 10m in size) on the steep, south west-facing slope of the abandoned coal mine area in Hwangji-Dong, Taebaek City, Gangwon Province in April 2006. We planted two-year-old 1,600 seedlings (at intervals of 0.6m ${\times}$ 0.8m) of drought-resistant tree species including Betula schmidtii, Betula platyphylla var. japonica, Amorpha fruticosa, and Quercus mongolica in the plots. After planting seedlings, mulching was applied by using five different kinds of material such as HWAP (Teracotem), peat moss, straw mats, wood chips, and control (no-mulching) and the effects of different mulching material on the survival rate and growth performance were compared. Three years after planting, the survival rate was the highest in wood chip mulching, followed by straw-mat, peat moss, HWAP, and control. The survival rate was the highest in Quercus mongolica, followed by Betula schmidtii, Betula platyphylla var. japonica, and Amorpha fruticosa. Meanwhile the height growth was the best in Betula platyphylla var. japonica, followed by Betula schmidtii, Quercus mongolica, and Amorpha fruticosa. The height growth of seedlings was the best in HWAP mulching, followed by peat moss, woody chips, straw mat, and control. From an economic point of view, wood chips are considered to be the best mulching material. The results showed that mulching without soil molding and/or mixing applications would be effective for restoring vegetation in an abandoned coal mine areas.

  • This study suggested suitable soil textures that is proper to propagate native plants to manage and restore barren land in DMZ. Germination tests were conducted for 16 native herbaceous plants growing in the DMZ border area in accordance with FAO-BI (Biodiversity International) standards, and the germination rate and T50 in vitro were investigated. In order to examine the germination characteristics according to the soil textures, we used gravel, bed and mixed soil and investigated the germination characteristics under ordinary room temperature conditions in the greenhouse. As a result, it was observed that the germination rate in the greenhouse was significantly decreased compared to the germination rate in vitro of the species advertised due to soil textures. T50 between the in vitro and each soil texture showed significant differences whereas T50 between soil textures alone did not in all species advertised. The germination rate in vitro of Aster koraiensis, Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum, Hosta clausa, and Hosta minor there was no significant difference compared to ordinary room temperature conditions. In addition, as the germination rate is demonstrated more than 70%, which is relatively higher than other species advertised, it is considered to have strong environmentally adaptable. On the other hand, considering that the 6 species of Leontopodium coreanum, Plantago major, Potentilla chinensis, Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum latiovalifolium, and Veronica kiusiana demonstrated less than 50% of germination rate in vitro, it is expected to be difficult to propagate without pre-treatment. In order to use these 6 species as restoration material plants, it needs to be considered to pre-treat to improve germination rate, or to enhance the vitality of seeds by improving the seed gathering period and storage method.
