Response modification factors of school facilities for non-seismic RC moment frames with partial masonry infills in 'Manual for Seismic Performance Evaluation and Retrofit of School Facilities' published in 2018 were investigated in the preceding study. However, since previous studies are based on 2D frame analysis and limited analysis conditions, additional verification needs to be performed to further apply various conditions including orthogonal effect of seismic load. Therefore, this study is to select appropriate response modification factors of school facilities for non-seismic RC moment frames with partial masonry infills by 3D frame analysis. The results are as follows. An appropriate response modification factor for non-seismic RC moment frames with partial masonry infills is proposed as 2.5 for all cases if the period is longer than 0.6 seconds. Also if the period is less than 0.4 seconds and the ratio of shear-controlled columns is less than 30%, 2.5 is chosen too. However, if the period is less than 0.4 seconds and the ratio of shear-controlled columns is higher than 30%, the response modification factor shall be reduced to 2.0. If the period is between 0.4 and 0.6 seconds, then linearly interpolates the response correction factor.

Interaction between system and disturbance results in system with time-dependent parameter. Parameter variation due to interaction has random characteristics. Most of the randomly varying parameters in control problem is regarded as white noise random process which is not a realistic model. In real situation those random variation is colored noise random process. Modified F-P-K equation is proposed to get the response of the random parametric system using some correction factor. Proposed technique is employed to obtain the colored noise parametric system response and confirmed via Monte-Carlo Simulation.
Bridge load rating calculations provide a basis for determining the safe load capacity of bridge. Load rating requires engineering judgement in determining a rating value that is applicable to maintaining the safe use of the bridge and arriving at posting and permit decisions. Load testing is an effective means in calculating the rating value of bridge. In Korea, load carrying capacity of bridge is modified by stress modification factor that is determined from comparisons of measured values and analysis results The stress modification factor may be corrupted by vehicle location error that is defined as the gap of test vehicle location between load testing and analysis. In this study, the effects of vehicle location error to structural response and stress modification factor are investigated, and a new method for evaluating stress modification factor is proposed. The random data analysis shows that the proposed method is less sensitive to vehicle location error than the present method.
In the past few years, the nondestructive inspection technology has greatly developed due to the increased necessity to gain a complete understanding of the bridge behavior. Especially, the deformations of bridges contain a lot of informations about its health state. By measuring these deformations it is possible to analyze the loading and aging behavior of the structure. However, the current, methods (such as LVDT, dial gage, optical displacement transducer, etc) are often of changeable application on site and have the limitations of installation. In this paper, the classical beam theory was reviewed and the deflections of structure are estimated using measured strain which is easy to acquire. The applicability of this algorithm is verified by laboratory(simple reinforced concrete beam) and field test. By this test, we proposed correction factor to estimate deflection of reinforced concrete beam after cracking, and analyze about the generation of correction factor. Also fiber optic sensors as well as resistive strain gages were installed in the concrete beams to establish the applicability of fiber optic sensors in the field of civil engineering.
Objectives: This study developed a harmonized method for risk assessment based on the Hazard & Risk Evaluation of Chemicals (HREC) according to the Industrial Safety and Health Act (ISHA). Methods: Three preliminary studies, performed during 2010 and 2011 by the Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute and three academic research groups, were compared. The differences in risk assessment, especially in the dose-response assessment method, were analyzed. A new harmonized method for dose-response assessment was suggested and its applicability for the HREC was examined. Results: Considering the various steps of each dose-response assessment, the equivalent steps in quantitative correction, uncertainty factor 2 (UF2) for intra-species uncertainty, and UF3 for the experimental period in the uncertainty correction were relatively high. Using our new method, the total correction values (quantitative correction plus uncertainty correction) ranged from 72~15,789 to 30~60, and the ratio of the threshold limit value (TLV) to the reference concentration decreased from 12.8~1900 to 5.4~11.8. Furthermore, when we performed risk characterization by our new method, hazard quotient (HQ) values for chloroethylene, epichlorohydrin, and barium sulfate became 3.0, 14.1, and 1.13 respectively, whereas three previous studies reported HQ values of 7.1, 4580, and 87.3 considering reasonable maximum exposure (RME) conditions. HQs of the three chemicals were calculated to be 0.6, 2.4, and 0.1 respectively, when compared to their TLVs. Conclusions: Our new method could be applicable for the HREC because the total correction values and the ratio of TLVs were within reasonable ranges. It is also recommended that additional risk management measures be applied for epichlorohydrin, for which the HQ values were greater than 1 when compared with both reference values and the TLV. Our proposed method could be used to harmonize dose-response assessment methods for the implementation of risk assessment based on the HREC according to ISHA.
Fastening systems have a significant role in the response of railway slab track systems. Although experimental tests indicate nonlinear behavior of fastening systems, they have been simulated as a linear spring-dashpot element in the available literature. In this paper, the influence of the nonlinear behavior of fastening systems on the slab track response was investigated. In this regard, a nonlinear model of vehicle/slab track interaction, including two commonly used fastening systems (i.e., RFFS and RWFS), was developed. The time history of excitation frequency of the fastening system was derived using the short time Fourier transform. The model was validated, using the results of a comprehensive field test carried out in this study. The frequency response of the track was studied to evaluate the effect of excitation frequency on the railway track response. The results obtained from the model were compared with those of the conventional linear model of vehicle/slab track interaction. The effects of vehicle speed, axle load, pad stiffness, fastening preload on the difference between the outputs obtained from the linear and nonlinear models were investigated through a parametric study. It was shown that the difference between the results obtained from linear and nonlinear models is up to 38 and 18 percent for RWFS and RFFS, respectively. Based on the outcomes obtained, a nonlinear to linear correction factor as a function of vehicle speed, vehicle axle load, pad stiffness and preload was derived. It was shown that consideration of the correction factor compensates the errors caused by the assumption of linear behavior for the fastening systems in the currently used vehicle track interaction models.
This paper proposes a new DC link voltage controller for a single-phase power factor correction (PFC) boost converter. The load current of the PFC boost converter affects the capacitor current, whereas the load current changes the output voltage. However, previous works that compensate output current have failed to consider the relationship between load current and duty. Thus, they also fail to maintain a constant output voltage if the load fluctuates under the conditions of a non-rated input voltage. By considering the duty in the load current compensation, the proposed method improves the load transient response regardless of the input voltage. To demonstrate its effectiveness, the proposed method is compared with other control methods by conducting PSM simulations and experiments under a rapidly changing load.
Switching power supply systems are widely used in many industrial fields. Power factor correction (PFC) circuits have a tendency to be applied in new power supply designs. The PFC circuit with a boost converter using an input power source is studied in this paper. In a boost PFC circuit, there are two feedback control loops: a current feedback loop and a voltage feedback loop. In this paper, the regulation performance gained by using the output voltage and compensator to improve the transient response presented at the continuous conduction mode (CCM) of the boost PFC circuit is analyzed. The validity of the designed boost PFC circuit is confirmed by both MATLAB simulation and experimental results.
This paper describes reasonable methods by considering change of outdoor temperature into Customer Baseline Load(CBL) of Demand Resources in Smart Demand Resource Market, which controls peak power demand and maintains reliability of power system. The Smart Demand Resouce Market, which KPX(Korea Power Exchange) implement, is explained and then effects for CBL calculated by considering temperature correction factor are established. Finally, four methods for calculation of CBL are proposed and those results are compared and analyzed.
