  • The major studies of an ocean circulation of the East/Japan Sea related to evaluate the feasibility and utilization of deep ocean water are reviewed. The major feature of surface current system of the East/Japan Sea is an inflow of the Tsushima Warm Current through the Korea/Tsushima Strait and the outflow through the Tsugaru and Soya Straits. The Tsushima Warm Current has been known to split into two or three branches in the southern region of the East/Japan Sea. In the cold water region of the East/Japan Sea, the North Korean Cold Current turns to the east near 39$^{\circ}$N after meeting the East Korean Warm Current, then flows eastward. The degree of penetration depends on the strength of the positive wind stress curl, according to the ventilation theory. Various current meter moorings indicate strong and oscillatory deep currents in various parts of the basin. According to some numerical experiments, these currents may be induced by pressure-topography or eddy-topography interaction. However, more investigations are needed to explain clearly the presence of these strong bottom currents. This study concludes the importance of topographical coupling, isopycnal outcropping, different wind forcing and the branching of the Tsushima Warm Current on the circulation of the East/Japan Sea.

  • This study selected Joongchon Village in Gimje-si as a target, in order to apply green village design regarding regional circumstances and features within the local government, in making green village as an efficient scheme in aspect of locality for 'Low Carbon, Green Growth'. Subsequently, we conducted survey and analysis. Natural circulation-based green village of Joongchon Village in Gimje-si is a low carbon green village, based upon eco-friendly cattle shed. Even though it is the fact that the initial costs of an eco-friendly cattle shed are rather high, it is the long-term low carbon green technology that can transform livestock night soils into resources, provide them to agricultural farms, independently supply energies from by-product, and produce energies additionally. Therefore, Joongchon Village in Gimje-si is the good example of green village, applying the design which actively utilizes discharged by-product from cattle shed, so natural circulation and energy production are able as an eco-friendly green technology.

  • The landfill gas produced in landfill is generally made up of methane(CH4) and carbon dioxide(CO2) of more than 90%, with the remainder made up of hydrogen sulfide(H2S). However, separate pre-treatment facilities are essential as hydrogen sulfide contained in landfill gas is combined with oxygen during the combustion process to generate sulfur oxides and acid rain combined with moisture in the atmosphere. Various desulfurization technologies have been used in Korea to desulfurize landfill gas. Although general desulfurization processes apply various physical and chemical methods, such as treatment of sediment generation according to the CaCO3 generation reaction and treatment through adsorbent, there is a problem of secondary wastes such as wastewater. As a way to solve this problem, a biological treatment process is used to generate and treat it with sludge-type sulfide (S°) using a biological treatment process. In this study, as a basic study of technology for utilizing the biological treatment by-products of hydrogen sulfide in landfill gas, an experiment was conducted to use the by-product as a mixture of concrete. According to the analysis of the mixture concrete strength of sulfur products, the mixture of sulfur by-products affects the strength of concrete and shows the highest strength value when mixing 10%.

  • In recent years, serious environmental problems occur in coastal area due to high pollution loads from human activity in land. Marine biomass utilization system therefore has been proposed to prompt material circulation between land and sea. Comprehensive assessment is necessary to determine that the proposed system is suitable and sustainable. This study introduces thermodynamic concept exergy, which expresses energy quality, to describe material and energy flowing in the material circulation system. This study presents material, energy and exergy flows in the material circulation system at Sakai city located in the middle of Osaka in Japan. It is found that exergy helps a better understanding of what is a key role is in exergy-efficient material circulation system.

  • The ratio of fractured reservoir is very high in oil & gas fields around the world. The demand of drilling technology for fractured reservoir is expected to increase continuously if oil and gas prices are economical. The purpose of the review study is to help operator or driller in selecting of proper drilling technology for preventing a lost circulation in the fractured formation. In order to achieve this goal, fractured reservoir(formation) they are classified into partial lost circulation formation and total lost circulation formation. In case of partial lost circulation formation, the drilling problem can be solved by using LCM(lost circulation material) mud additive and squeezing cement. For shallow depth, total lost circulation formation can be drilled safely and economically with casing drilling method. Also, for deeper depth, problems of total lost circulation in formation can be solved by applying mud cap, which is one of the drilling methods. This was confirmed through field application such as Italy's Medusa-1 field and Qatar's North field.
