  • Since the game theory provides a theoretical ground to distribute a shared resource between demanding users in a fair and efficient manner, it has been used for the bandwidth allocation problem in a network. However, the bandwidth allocation schemes with different game theory assign different amount of bandwidth in the same operational environments. However, only the mathematical framework is adopted when a bandwidth allocation scheme is devised without quantitatively comparing the results when they applied to the bandwidth allocation problem. Thus, in this paper, we compare the characteristics of the bandwidth allocation schemes using the bankrupt game theory and the bargaining game theory when they applied to the situation where nodes are competing for the bandwidth in a network. Based on the numerical results, we suggest the future research direction.

  • Resource constrained project scheduling problem with multiple resource constraints as well as precedence constraints is well-known as one of the NP-hard problem. Since these problems can't be solved by the deterministic method during reasonable time, the heuristics are generally used for getting a sub-optimal during reasonable time. In this paper, we introduce an efficient genetic algorithm for resource constrained project scheduling problem using crossover which is applying schema theory and real world tournament selection strategy. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional algorithm.

  • Purpose - In endless competition, companies pursue cost reduction and work efficiency. So, entrepreneurs try to increase job intensity, which may lead to job stress and high turnovers because of job burnout. But, Information systems are acknowledged as a work support tool that secures work convenience and the productivity of employees. In this study, we aimed to confirm the effects of information systems in reduing the work overload of employees in a human resource intensive industry. Research design, data and methodology - This is based on the job demands-resources model, conducting an empirical analysis of surveys given to hospital employees working in a human resource intensive industry. Results - The research revealed that information systems reduced the work overload of employees in a human resource intensive industry. Conclusion - This study confirmed the effects of information systems as a job resource based on JD-R theory, and presentation of empirical results indicated that information systems alleviate employee job overload and increases job satisfaction in the medical services industry. In the medical services industry, using electronic health record system decreases in work overload, which results in employees gaining time for self-development and time management, reducing job stress, and leading to job satisfaction.

  • Rapid advances in ubiquitous computing and its pervasive influence over our society demand an efficient way to locate resources over the network. In mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) which is a special type of the sub-networks in ubiquitous environment, effective resource discovery is particularly important, due to their dynamics and the resource constraints on wireless nodes. In this paper, we propose an adaptive and efficient resource discovery strategy for MANETs. Our strategy also provides a solution to bridge different types of networks which coexist in ubiquitous environment.

  • This study investigates the complex mechanism of work-family conflict affecting counterproductive behavior of employees based on resource conservation theory and 417 valid samples by using polynomial regression and response surface analysis. Counterproductive work behavior refers to any intentional behavior of an individual that has potential harm to the legitimate interests of the organization or its stakeholders. Results show that first, work-to-family conflict (WFC) and family-to-work conflict (FWC) had four matching types. Compared with "high WFC-low FWC," "low WFC-high FWC" and "low WFC-low FWC" matching conditions, the employee self-control resource depletion and counterproductive work behavior (CWB) are at their highest under "high WFC-high FWC" congruence matching condition. Second, the joint effect of WFC and FWC has a U-shaped relationship with counterproductive behavior. Compared with the "high WFC-low FWC" match state, the level of CWB in the "low WFC-high FWC" match state is higher. Third, the depletion of self-control resources played a mediating role in the effect of WFC on counterproductive behavior. Fourth, emotional intelligence moderated the relationship between the congruence of WFC and FWC and self-control resource depletion. Emotional intelligence was higher, and the positive relationship between the congruence of WFC and FWC and self-control resource depletion was weaker.

  • In ubiquitous environments, invisible devices and software are connected to one another to provide convenient services to users. In order to provide such services, we must have mobile devices that connect users and services. But such services are usually limited to those served on a single mobile device. To resolve the resource limitation problem of mobile devices, a nearby resource sharing research has been studied. Also, not only the nearby resource share but also a resource recommendation through context-based resource reasoning has been studied such as an UMO Project. The UMO Project share and manage the various context information for the personalization resource recommendation and reason based on current context information. Also, should verify resource inference rules for reliable the resource recommendation. But, to create various context information requires huge cost and time in actuality. Thus, we propose a inference verification tool called USim to resolve problem. The proposed inference verification tool provides convenient graphic user interfaces and it easily creates context information. The USim exactly verifies new inference rules through dynamic changes of context information.

  • This paper aims to estimate the effects of environmental variables on volunteering among older persons and decide relationships between independent and dependent variables. The thesis conceptually points out that the integrated theory of resources too much emphasizes the important roles of human, social and cultural capital, but overlooks the influences of ecological environments in explaining volunteering among the older persons. And the thesis tries to apply the general ecological theory of aging to explaining volunteering of older people together with resource frameworks, and to estimate the effects of ecological environment variables on volunteerism for senior citizens. Using a micro data of 2009 National Social Survey by Statistics Korea, the paper screens out 10,268 subjects who are believed to socially retire and be above 55 years older. The multiple OLS regression and binomial logistic regression techniques are used to estimate the effects of ecological environments and resources on volunteering. The analysis results show that all of environmental and resource variables are related to volunteering at the level of p<.000. This means that environmental variables have independent effects on the volunteerism, controlling for resource variables. This results suggest that both theories have empirical evidences in explaining volunteerism in Korea. Also, at the end of paper, theoretical and policy implications for practices and future studies are discussed.

  • Background: Organizations in the pharmaceutical industry are highly dependent on the institutional environment. The introduction of pharmacoeconomics to the decision-making on the price and reimbursement decisions became strong constraints to pharmaceutical companies in Korea. As little is known about the issue on organization-environment interaction in the healthcare field, this study aimed to figure out how pharmaceutical companies adapted to the environmental changes. Methods: A multicase study method was used, selecting eight cases among multi-national pharmaceutical companies in South Korea. In-depth interviews were conducted with the managers of these organizations, and secondary data were reviewed to complement the interviews. Results: Pharmaceutical companies viewed the new policies as a big threat and sought for actions against them. One of the most distinguishing organizational changes was to construct a Market Access department. Other strategies managing the environment such as co-optation, forecasting, and bargaining were also implemented. These changes were consistent with the predictions of Resource Dependency Theory and Institutional Theory. Conclusions: The interactions between pharmaceutical companies and institutional environments in healthcare were first explored. This study presents a new perspective on how organizations change and the motives for the changes. The findings of this case study will form the basis of further empirical studies.

  • Although tourism has been quite popular as development strategy, the outcomes may vary dependent upon managing stakeholders involved. Thus, stakeholder management has been the subject of growing research interests recently. Collaboration theory was suggested as an alternative to this question; however, collaboration theory may provide potential benefits, it lacks in consideration into stakeholder power relations. The purpose of this paper is two foleded. One is to examine critically collaboration theory in the context of tourism development, and address the necessity of stakeholder analysis framework, and the other is to provide the framework. This paper argues that careful analysis of stakeholders from diverse perspectives should be done in advance, and presents stakeholder analysis framework which consists of six analysis indicators: interest, perspective, power base(resource), involvement, influence, and legitimacy. The framework consists of three stages: (1) identifying stakeholder, (2) assessing stakeholder, and (3) establishing strategies. It is argued that the framework in this paper can be useful to analyze stakeholders and to set up strategy for more collaborative tourism development.
