  • The future mobile communication system can support not only voice but also multimedia applications such as data, image and video. It requires greater resources than the voice-oriented mobile system. Efficient resource reservation and hand-over schemes are necessary to maintain the same QoS of transmitted multimedia traffic because the QoS may be defected by some delay and information loss during hand-over. This paper proposes a resource reservation scheme to accommodate multimedia traffics in mobile multimedia networks. In our scheme the position of mobile is estimated in two steps, that is, sector estimation and zone estimation. With this position information, the moving direction is determined. According to simulation results, our scheme provides a better performance than conventional methods.

  • We proposes a power-aware fixed-priority real-time scheduling algorithm for multimedia service, called static voltage scaling algorithm with multi-granularity resource reservation (STATIC-MULTIRSV). The multi-granularity resource reservation was introduced to deliver higher system utilization and better temporal isolation than the traditional approaches in [2]. Based on this, our STATIC-MULTIRSV is designed to reduce the power consumptions while guaranteeing that all I-frames of each video stream meet their deadlines. We implemented the proposed algorithm on top of ChronOS Real-time Linux [6]. We experimentally compared STATIC-MULTIRSV with other existing methods which showed that STATIC-MULTIRSV reduce power consumption by maximum 15% compared to its experimental counterparts.

  • We propose a new resource reservation scheme called MC-HMRSVP(Mobile clustering based-Hierarchical mobile ReSource reserVation Protcol) that is an extension of HMRSVP[3,4]. MC-HMRSVP always establishes a virtual cluster called Mobile Cluster, which includes its immediately adjacent MA(Mobile Agent) for passive reservation as well as the current MA for active reservation to which MH(Mobile Host) belongs. Our scheme also establishes the MC regardless of intra/inter region movement by GMA(Gateway Mobile Agent) function when a MH moves. To provide a general formulation on analyzing the performance in terms of reservation cost, we also model the resource reservation cost by using a simple recursive equation. Then, we show that our scheme decreases the reservation cost in comparison with the existing HMRSVP extentions.

  • Mobile agents are defined as processes which can be autonomously delegated or transferred among the hosts in a network in order to perform some computations on behalf of the user and co-operate with other agents. Currently, mobile agents are used in various fields, such as electronic commerce, mobile communication, parallel processing, search of information, recovery, and so on. In pure P2P network environment, if mobile agents that require computing resources rashly migrate to another peers without consideration on the peer's capacity of resources, the peer may have a problem that the performance of the peer is degraded due to lack of resources. To solve this problem, we propose resource reservation based load balancing scheme of using RMA(Resource Management Agent) that monitors workload information of the peers and that decides migrating agents and destination peers. In mobile agent migrating procedure, if the resource of specific peer is already reserved, our resource reservation scheme prevents other mobile agents from allocating the resource.

  • The handover between different radio access networks, especially where their coverage overlaps, suffers various complications since the different access networks provide different service characteristics. One way to reduce service interruptions and QoS (i.e., bandwidth, throughput, delay) degradations during the inter-technology handover is to reserve the required resource in advance. The resource reservation algorithm should minimize the handover latency and maximize the resource utilization based on the accurate estimation on mobile's location, velocity, movement pattern and service requirements. In this paper, we propose a resource reservation algorithm based on the mobile terminal velocity and the cell selection probability, which maximizes resource utilization ana reduces network overhead. We compare the proposed algorithm with PMS(Predictive Mobility Support) and VCDS(Velocity and Call Duration Support scheme) based on 3-layer network model under various scenarios.

  • A lysozyme gene from breast of Tibetan sheep was successfully expressed by secretion using a-factor signal sequence in the methylotrophic yeast, Pichia pastoris GS115. An expression yield and specific activity greater than 500 mg/L and 4,000 U/mg was obtained. Results at optimal pH and temperature showed recombinant lysozyme has higher lytic activity at pH 6.5 and $45^{\circ}C$. This study demonstrates the successful expression of recombinant lysozyme using the eukaryotic host organism P. pastoris paving the way for protein engineering. Additionally, this study shows the feasibility of subsequent industrial manufacture of the enzyme with this expression system together with a high purity scheme for easy high-yield purification.

  • Most handoff control schemes try to offer the negotiated QoS by resource reservation for handoff calls. However, it is very difficult to determine the optimal amount of reservation resource for the handoff calls, and sometimes a considerable waste of network resource may be caused. In order to solve this problem, we propose a 2-level resource reservation and call admission control scheme. In our scheme, handoffs are classified into two types (primary and secondary) based on how often they occur and are dealt with in different ways. Simulation results show that our scheme may allow more efficient utilization of network resource without degrading QoS comparing with the existing with legacy handoff control scheme.

  • One of the most challenging technical issues in mobile communication for multimedia is Quality of Service (QoS) management of handover calls. This paper proposes a 2-level handover control system to copy with this problem. A 2-level handover control system consists of resource reservation and call admission control modules. The resource reservation module divides the network resource into Hard and Soft reserved resource. The Hard reserved resource is only for the handover calls while the Soft reserved resource is for both the handovers and the new calls. And also, the resource reservation module classifies handovers into primary and secondary handovers based on often they occur. The call admission control module deals with the primary and secondary handover calls in different ways. The new calls can use Soft reserved resource only if there is sufficient amount available in the Hard reserved resource. Proposed system is evaluated using an M/M/c/c queueing model. It is shown that proposed system allows more efficient utilization of network resource without degrading QoS comparing with the legacy handover control systems.

  • Resource reservation scheme is effective for better QoS guarantee to handover call for the next generation cellular systems where handover rate highly increases. However, resource reservation for handover call can incur negative impact on the new user admission. In this paper, we propose a random access based adaptive group-wise reservation to effectively reduce dropping rate of handover call, while protecting new local call. In the proposed scheme, target base station divides adaptively future handover users into groups based on the expected handover time, and then does group-wise reservation, where service allocation within each group is done on random access basis. Markov approach is also provided to analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. By computer simulation, it is shown that theoretical analysis on the performance is similar to the simulation results and the proposed reservation scheme outperforms the conventional scheme with respect to dropping probability of handover call.

  • IF handoff events are occurred during the transmission of multimedia traffic, the efficient resource allocation and handoff procedures are necessary to maintain the same QoS of transmitted multimedia traffic because the QoS may be defected by some delay and information loss, This paper proposes a handoff scheme to accommodate multimedia traffic based on the resource reservation procedure using direction estimation, This scheme uses a novel mobile tracking method based on Fuzzy Multi Criteria Decision Making, in which uncertain parameters such as PSS (Pilot Signal Strength), the distance between the mobile and the base station, the moving direction, and the previous location are used in the decision process using the aggregation function in fuzzy set theory, With the position information, the moving direction is determined, The handoff requests for real time sessions are handled based on the direction prediction and the resource reservation scheme, The resources in the estimated adjacent cells should be reserved and allocated to guarantee the continuity of the real time sessions, Through simulation results, we show that our proposed resource reservation method provides a better performance than that of the conventional method.
