  • The conventional phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter with an LC filter has been widely used for high-power applications of over 1.0 kW. However, the PSFB converter cannot obtain optimal power conversion efficiency during the battery charging in electric vehicle (EV) on-board battery charger applications because of its unique drawbacks, such as a large circulating current and very high voltage stress in the rectifier diodes. As a result, the converters with a capacitive filter, such as LLC resonant converters, replace the PSFB converter in the EV chargers. This study analyzes the problems of the PSFB converter for EV on-board charger applications in detail. Moreover, the newest converters based on the conventional PSFB converter are reviewed. On the basis of the reviews, new PSFB converter topologies are proposed for EV charger applications. The new topologies are formed by connecting the rectifier stage in the PSFB converter with the output of an LLC resonant converter in series. Many problems of the conventional PSFB converter for EV charger applications can be solved and the performance can be more improved because of this structure; this idea is confirmed by an experiment consisting of prototype battery chargers under the output voltage range of 250-450 Vdc at 3.3 kW.

  • This paper proposed a novel SIT high frequency resonant inverter having drive signal phase shift control function. Phasor control type inverters using SIT can realize a power conversion on the high switching frequency with low switching loss. Especially, the high output power can be abstained by connecting the output voltage of two unit inverters In serIes. The stability of system using protection circuit for over current and the automatic follow-up control with load variation by PLL is presented. This inverter produce approximately sinusoidal waveform at a high frequency, switching frequency ranging from 180[kHz] to 220[kHz], and is applied to the 2[kW] induction heating. The operating characteristics of this inverter circuit are discussed from a theoretical point of view and compared with experimental results. results.

  • This paper presents a design techniques for an electronic ballast of HID lamps. An electronic ballast for HID lamps usually employs a high-frequeocy resonant inverter and voltage-to-frequency converter to control the outpIt and a half-bridge and series resonant circuit are chosen for the ballast First, to design PI controller, the inverter with V/F converter is modeled with a transfer function and the controller PI gains are determined. This paper shows that an integral controller is only needed to control the current. Second, a se1f-feedback controller is proposed. This structure, simple and robust, is analyzed and a feedback gain is determined by using the inverter model. Experirrental system is built with a commercial 250W high pressure sodium lamp and the results show a validity of the proposed ballast and the total efficiency is increased by 5%.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a 2.5kW (500V, 5A) simmer circuit that maintains the ionization of xenon gas inside the lamp. The design is based on a LCC resonant converter in continuous conduction mode (CCM) with above resonant frequency to take advantage of high power density from using parasitic elements such as the leakage inductance in a power transformer. In addition, since the converter has current source output characteristics, it is suitable for maintaining ionization of the lamp having the negative resistance load characteristic. To verify this converter design, PSpice modeling was performed. Finally, the developed simmer circuit is verified by a resistive load of rated performance and the Ionization maintenance operation of the xenon flash lamp.

  • This paper shows the design of the high voltage capacitor charger which using a modified series parallel resonant converter. The used silicon carbide Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (SiC MOSFET) is proper for the few hundred kHz of high switching frequency to overcome the bulk resonant inductor and snubber capacitors. Furthermore, to increase the amount of the charging current, three phase delta transformer is used as well as the secondary sides are connected in parallel. In this paper, the design procedure of the high voltage capacitor charger is suggested and the output power is verified by the experimental results with the rated resistor load.

  • Nowadays, CO2 lasers are used widely in many applications such as materials fabrication. communications, remote sensing and military purpose etc. It is important to control the laser output power in those fields. In this paper, current resonant half-bridge inverter and Cockcraft-Walton circuit are used to vary the laser output power. This laser power supply is designed and fabricated which has less switching losses and compact size. Also we used an IGBT(insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) as a switching device of a power supply and PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control the gate signal of the IGBT precisely. We investigated the output characteristics of this CO2 laser. As a result. the maximum laser output power of 26 [W] is obtained at the resonant frequency of about 13 [kHz].

  • In this paper, new design concept of MEMS gyroscope using multi mass system is proposed. The gyroscope having wide bandwidth was designed utilizing the multi mass system in order to reduce the degradation of the performance by resonance variation. The multi mass system has more than two masses and separates the resonant peak of each mass. Using MATLAB, the variation of bandwidth and driving displacement according to mass ratio of the multi mass system was analyzed. This result was compared with that of current single mass system gyroscope. In the 7 kHz resonant frequency design, the multi mass system has 395.3Hz bandwidth, which is six times larger than single mass system bandwidth, 58.5 Hz.

  • This paper proposes a novel active damping scheme to suppress LCL-filter resonance with only grid-current feedback control in grid-connected voltage-source converters. The idea comes from the concept of the model reference adaptive control (MRAC). A detailed theoretical derivation is given, and the effectiveness of this method is explained based on its physical nature. According to the control structure of this method, the active damping compensator, which is essentially a second order resonant integrator (SORI) filter, provides an effective solution to damp LCL resonance and to eliminate the need for additional sensors. Compared with extra feedback methods, the cost and complexity are reduced. A straightforward tuning procedure for the active damping method has been presented. A stability analysis is illustrated in the discrete domain while considering a one-step delay. Finally, experimental results are presented to validate the analysis and to demonstrate the good performance of the proposed method.

  • The frustrated magnet has been regarded as a system that could be a promising host material for the quantum spin liquid (QSL). However, it is difficult to determine the spin configuration and the corresponding mechanism in this system, because of its geometrical frustration (i.e., crystal structure and symmetry). Herein, we systematically investigate one of the geometrically frustrated magnets, the $TbB_4$ compound. Using resonant soft x-ray scattering (RSXS), we explored its spin configuration, as well as Tb's quadrupole. Comprehensive evaluations of the temperature and photon energy/polarization dependences of the RSXS signals reveal the mechanism of spin reorientation upon cooling down, which is the sophisticated interplay between the Tb spin and the crystal symmetry rather than its orbit (quadrupole). Our results and their implications would further shed a light on the search for possible realization of QSL.

  • In this paper, a dual-function dynamically tunable metamaterial absorber is proposed. At frequency points of 1.545 THz and 3.21 THz, two resonance peaks with absorption amplitude of 93.8% (peak I) and 99.4% (peak II) can be achieved. By regulating the conductivity of photosensitive silicon with a pump laser, the resonance frequency of peak I switches to 1.525 THz, and that of peak II switches to 2.79 THz. By adjusting the incident polarization angle by rotating the device, absorption amplitude tuning is obtained. By introducing two degrees of regulation freedom, the absorption amplitude modulation and resonant frequency switching are simultaneously realized. More importantly, dynamic and continuous adjustment of the absorption amplitude is obtained at a fixed resonant frequency, and the modulation depth reaches 100% for both peaks. In addition, the sensing property of the proposed MMA was studied while it was used as a refractive index sensor. Compared with other results reported, our device not only has a dual-function tunable characteristic and the highest modulation depth, but also simultaneously possesses fine sensing performance.
