공진 점등 기능과 효율 향상을 위한 HID 램프의 저주파수 구형파 2단 전자식 안정기 (Digital Control of Low-Frequency Square-Wave Two-Stage Electronic Ballast for HID Lamps with Resonant Ignition and High Efficiency)

  • In this paper, electronic ballast using resonant inverter for HID lamp is designed and implemented. The proposed electronic ballast is used the soft switching technology ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) to reduce turn-on and turn-off loss. The ignition of proposed electronic ballast is achieved by controlling a full bridge inverter which is consisted of LC filter for resonance. After ignition the ballast operates as a low frequency square wave inverter by controlling a full bridge inverter as a buck converter. After ignition at resonant frequency of $f_o$=160kHz, the switching frequency of a buck converter is consisted of 50kHz of high frequency and 170Hz of low frequency. This is for attenuating high frequency harmonics and avoiding acoustic resonance. The experimental results show that electronic ballast using resonant inverter is operated stably.

열음향 공진 점화에 대한 연구 (Research about Thermoacoustic Resonance Ignition)

  • 초음속 유동의 운동에너지가 열에너지로 바뀌는 열음향 공진 현상을 활용하여 액체로켓엔진의 다중 점화를 위한 점화기 구현에 적용할 수 있다. 본 논문은 이와 같은 열음향 공진 현상의 기본 원리와 이론, 현재까지 진행된 주요 연구결과를 본문에 수록하였다. 열음향 공진 현상에 의한 열발생 특성은 초음속 노즐을 통해 분출되는 유동의 특성과 노즐과 공진관의 형상 그리고 에너지를 전달하는 기체의 종류에 의해 영향 받는다. 이와 같은 열음향 공진 현상을 적용한 액체로켓엔진을 위한 다중 점화기를 구성하는데 있어서 향후 연구 개발이 필요한 부분에 대한 논의를 진행하였다.

But they have the serious problem of acoustic resonance for high frequency operation and they need the high voltage to ignite. So, they have not been applied to indoors. Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the electronic ballast together with hot restarting and resonance phenomenon. But very few attempts have been made with the adaptive ignition method according to the lamp state. In this paper, electronic ballast is proposed for metal halide lamps with an igniter for adaptive ignition. The proposed electronic ballast can generate different ignition voltages according to the arc tube state.

  • A high ignition voltage is required for the metal halide (MHD) lamp. In this paper, the ballast ignited by internal LC resonance of buck converter with minimum size is proposed. For minimizing the ignition current for device safety, the characteristic impedance is maximized. But this results In a large steady state ripple, which may cause the accoustic resonance. The steady state ripple cancellation network using the coupled inductor is proposed.

  • The electronic ballast for HID lamps needs high ignition voltage which is consisted of high voltage pulse ignitor. However, In the case of street lamp it is far from a lamp to a ballast, the conventional pulsed high voltage ignitor can not turn on the HID lamps because of reduction of ignition voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to turn on the HID lamps. However, the resonant circuit which is consisted of LC occurs over current, so the capacity of the ignitor increases. The capacity of the ignitor can be reduced by using the transformer. In this case, the capacitor for resonance is installed to the secondary of the transformer, and the capacitor needs high withstanding voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to reduce the voltage over the resonant capacitor by dividing the secondary of the transformer.

  • 현재까지 HID 램프는 광원이 가진 많은 장점에도 불구하고, 고온 순시 재 점등과 음향 공명 현상으로 인해서 실내 광원으로서의 사용이 제한되어왔다. 하지만 많은 연구를 통해서 램프가 뜨거운 상태에서도 순시 재 점등이 가능한 방법이 제시되어 왔고, 실제로 사용되어지고 있다. 하지만 이러한 방법은 램프 상태와 무관하게 200[kV] 정도의 전압을 램프에 인가하는 방법으로, 일반적으로 램프 수명이 감소하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 그러므로 순시 재 점등과 수명 문제는 중요한 연구대상으로 인식되어왔다. 본 논문에서는 램프가 차가운 상태에 필요한 점화 전압과 램프가 뜨거운 상태에서 점등에 필요한 점화 전압을 발생시키는 독립적인 2개의 점화기를 사용함으로써, 램프 상태에 따라 각기 다른 점화 전압을 램프에 인가하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

  • This paper proposed a new optimal design method of the electronic ballast with stable run-up current for Metal Halide lamp during the ignition condition. In order to avoid operation in the acoustic resonance frequency band and to supply the optimal ignition current without demage of inverter switching components during the ignition period, the values of the series inductor Ls, the series capacitor Cs, and the parallel capacitor Cp were determined by analysis of characteristics of inverter transfer function depend on Lamp operating power and resistance of ignition condition and steady state operating condition. For the prototype ballast for a 400W Metal Halide Lamp, experimental results are presented in order to validate the proposed method.

  • Metal halide lamps have been made suitable for use in outdoor illumination systems over many years. They are also widely used in application and commercial lighting due to their attracting properties such as good quality color, rendering and high efficiency. Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the electronic ballast with hot restarting and resonance phenomenon. However, very few attempts have been made at the adaptive ignition method according to lamp state. This paper proposes an electronic ballast for metal halide lamps with an igniter for adaptive ignition. The proposed electronic ballast can generate different ignition voltages according to the arc tube state. The experimental results showed that the proposed ballast circuit using adaptive igniter is suitable for 70W HQI lamps.
