일부 어린이집의 실내공기 중 메치실린내성 포도알균의 오염 실태 및 특성 (A Study on the Concentration and Characteristics of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococci in the Indoor Air of Childcare Facilities)

  • Objectives: This study aims to understand the concentration, diversity, and antibiotic characteristics of staphylococci present in the indoor air of child-care facilities. Methods: Air sampling was performed from October 2012 to January 2013 in 120 child-care facilities in Seoul, Korea. Methicillin-resistant bacteria were selected from the total obtained airborne bacteria and subjected to 16S rRNA analysis for methicillin-resistant staphylococcal species determination. Identified staphylococcal strains were tested for resistance to a range of antibiotics. Results: Average total airborne bacterial concentration was $508.9{\pm}246.3CFU/m^3$. Indoor concentration of total airborne bacteria had a significant positive correlation with the $CO_2$ concentration in the child-care facilities. Methicillin-resistant staphylococci were present in 13.3% of the child-care facilities studied. A total of four species (S. epidermidis, S. cohnii, S. saprophyticus, S. sp.) and 55 strains were identified from the indoor air of the child-care facilities. Staphylococcus cohnii was the most common species (54.5%), followed by S. epidermidis (38.2%). All of the isolated staphylococcal strains exhibited high resistance to oxacillin, erythromycin, mupirocin, and ceftizoxime. Especially, S. saprophyticus strains showed more multidrug resistance to oxacillin, vancomycin, clindamycin, erythromycin, lincomycin, ceftizoxime, mupirocin, and tetracycline than did other species. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that a monitoring system for multidrug-resistant bacteria is needed in facilities for children, as the community-associated infections of these bacteria are increasing.

  • Objectives: This study was performed in order to evaluate antibiotic resistance and analyze the multiple antibiotic resistance of food-borne pathogens isolated from indoor air and an air cleaner at a lunch room in a child care center. Methods: An antibiotic test of food-borne pathogens, including four Staphylococcus aureus and 23 Bacillus cereus was conducted through the disk diffusion method from Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute. Results: All Staph. aureus was resistant to Ampicillin and Penicillin, while B. cereus was also resistant to Ampicillin, Cefepime and Penicillin. All isolates showed Vancomycin susceptibility but three out of four Staph. aureus and all B. cereus were resistant to Oxacillin. Staph. aureus and B. cereus presented two or more multiple antibiotic resistances. Conclusions: The results indicated that food-borne pathogens isolated from indoor air and an air cleaner at a lunch room in a child care center showed multiple antibiotic resistances. The repeated control of indoor environment quality is required and continuous surveillance of antibiotic resistant strains is demanded.

저항전분 대체에 따른 유과의 품질에 관한 연구 (Study on Quality of Yukwa by Substitution with Resistant Starch)

  • Effects of resistant starch as a functional substitute on the quality of Yukwa were determined. Replacement ratios of resistant starch were 2, 4, and 6% of glutinous rice flour. Regarding pasting properties of Yukwa dough replaced with resistant starch, initial pasting temperature significantly increased and peak viscosity significantly decreased with increasing resistant starch. The moisture contents of bandegi and Yukwa base replaced with resistant starch were higher than that of the control. The expansion ratio of Yukwa base replaced with resistant starch significantly decreased with increasing resistant starch, and there were no significant differences in the oil absorption ratio. Lightness (L) of Yukwa base replaced with resistant starch increased significantly with increasing resistant starch. Appearance of Yukwa base replaced with resistant starch showed a shortened length and increased width with increasing resistant starch, and cross-section showed an oval shape, fine air cell distribution, and increased outer layer thickness. Hardness and peak number increased significantly with increasing resistant starch. The overall acceptability of Yukwa base replaced with 6% resistant starch was the highest among the samples, but the result was not significant. The above results show that resistant starch substitution in Yukwa improved the texture and further could improve health functionality due to its dietary fiber content. Resistant starch was appropriate as a 6% replacement for glutinous rice flour in Yukwa.

여천산업단지(麗川産業團地) 사방오리나무의 공해(公害) 방어(防禦) 기작(機作)에 관여(關與)하는 효소(酵素)들의 활성비교(活性比較) (Antioxidant Enzyme Activities of Alnus firma to Air Pollution in Yochon Industrial Complex)

  • 사방오리나무(Alnus firma)가 공해에 대해서 내성을 가지는 이유를 구명하기 위해서 광합성 등 생리적인 특성과 몇 가지 antioxidant 관여 효소를 분석하였다. 이를 위해서 공단이 많은 오염지역(여천산업단지)에서도 잘 자라는 사방오리나무 개체목과 피해를 받은 개체목을 각각 선발하였다. 그리고 비교를 위해서 오염원이 거의 없는 청정지역(수원)에서도 비슷한 생장을 하고 있는 개체목을 각각 1997년도에 선발하였다. 광합성능력, 기공전도도, 증산량, 엽록소함량, Rubisco, Antioxidant 효소(Superoxide dismutase(SOD) 그리고 Glutathione reductase(GR))의 활성 모두, 오염지역에서 잘 자라며 가시적인 피해를 보이지 않는 개체목의 경우 가시적인 피해가 있는 개체의 경우보다 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 이는 오염물질로부터 자신을 보호하여 정상적인 생장을 유지하기 위한 생물학적인 보상(Biological compensation)을 하는 것이라고 추정된다.

Comparison of Airborne Bacterial Communities from a Hog Farm and Spray Field

  • Airborne bacteria from hog farms may have detrimental impacts on human health, particularly in terms of antibiotic resistance and pathogen zoonosis. Despite human health risks, very little is known about the composition and diversity of airborne bacteria from hog farms and hog-related spray fields. We used pyrosequencing analysis of 16S rRNA genes to compare airborne bacterial communities in a North Carolina hog farm and lagoon spray field. In addition, we isolated and identified antibiotic-resistant bacteria from both air samples. Based on 16S rRNA gene pyrosequence analysis, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria were the dominant phyla in airborne bacterial communities from both hog farm and spray field sites. Within the Firmicutes genera, Clostridium spp. were more abundant in the hog farm, whereas Staphylococcus spp. were higher in the spray field. The presence of opportunitic pathogens, including several Staphylococcus species and Propionibacterium acnes, was detected in both bioaerosol communities based on phylogenetic analysis. The isolation and identification of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from air samples also showed similar results with dominance of Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria in both hog farm and spray field air. Thus, the existence of opportunistic pathogens and antibiotic resistant bacteria in airborne communities evidences potential health risks to farmers and other residents from swine bioaerosol exposure.

Physicochemical Characters of Ultra Violet Ray Resistant Deinococcus sp. Isolated from Air Dust

  • Among a few number of UV-resistant isolated form various environmental sources (10), we made a comparative physio-chemoanalytical study on one of spherical bacteria isolated from air dust, presumably Deinococcus sp. (CM strain 29) with an UV resistant bacterium, Deinococcus radiophilus ATCC 27603 as the reference strain. Our isolate of UV resistant coccus, Deinococcus sp. CM 29 and D. radiophilus ATCC 27603 showed more than 75% matching coefficient in metabolic activity of various substrates. The most predominant cellular fatty acid of both strains was palmitoleic acid (C 16 :1, cis 9), but the detail fatty acid profiles were slightly dissimilar to each other. Cell-bound arange pigment seemed to be an identical chemicals on spectrophotometric analysis. L-ornithine was detected as cell-wall amino acid in both strains. Galactose was detected as cell-wall sugar in D. radiophilus ATCC 27603, whereas glucose in Deinococcus sp. CM 29. G-C molar ratio of both strains was comparable, 63-65%.

공기접촉 제어를 통한 산화방지 Core-Shell 나노영가철의 제조 (Synthesis of Oxidation Resistant Core-shell Nanoscale Zero-valent Iron by Controlled Air Contact)

  • 본 연구는 대기중에서 안정한 나노크기 영가철을 제조한 후 그 특성을 평가하기 위해 수행되었다. XRD, XPS 분석을 통해 인위적으로 4, 8, 12 mL/min 유량의 공기 접촉을 통해 형성된 shell의 두께는 5 nm로 모두 유사한 것으로 확인되었고, shell의 성분은 magnetite(${Fe_3}{O_4}$), maghemite(${\gamma}-{Fe_2}{O_3}$)가 주성분임을 확인할 수 있었다. 4, 8, 12 mL/min의 접촉 공기 유량에 따른 shell의 명확한 성분 및 두께 변화는 확인할 수 없었다. 반면 대기 중에서 공기와 급속으로 접촉시킨 나노크기 영가철의 경우는 TEM 분석 결과 shell 층이 확인되지 않았다. 4, 8, 12 mL/min의 유량으로 공기 접촉된 나노크기 영가철의 TCE 분해능($k_{obs}$= 0.111, 0.102, and 0.086 $hr^{-1}$) 또한 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으며, fresh한 나노크기 영가철에 비해서는 약 80%의 분해효율을 나타내었다. Fresh한 나노크기 영가철 및 4 mL/min과 급속으로 공기 접촉시킨 나노크기 영가철을 물속에서 1일 동안 물과 접촉시킨 후 분해능을 평가한 실험에서는 공기 접촉 후 바로 분해 실험한 것 보다 분해능이 모두 향상되었다. 이는 물과의 반응을 통해 shell 층이 벗겨져 순수한 Fe(0)와 TCE의 접촉이 빨라져서 일어난 결과로 판단되어진다. 또한 각각 1주일과 2달간 대기 중에서 방치한 후 분해 실험한 결과 공기 접촉 후 바로 분해 실험한 결과와 비교해서 분해능이 90%와 50%로 감소하였다. 따라서 본 연구결과 일정 유량으로 공기 접촉 시킨 나노크기 영가철은 대기 중 산소에 안정하기 때문에 실제 현장 적용에 유리할 것으로 판단된다.

한국 소방복 실태에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Actual Condition of korean Firefighter's Protective Clothing)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual performance of Korean firefighter's clothing through comparisons with protective clothing used in the United State, surveys of firefighter's opinion, and experiments on the material used in Korean firefighter's clothing. The paper presents experimental results as well as ways to improve current standards. The major results are as follows: 1. Korean protective clothing is too thin and too heavy. Thicker, lighter, and more heat- resistant fabric and a lighter trim should be used. 2. Korean protective clothing is not very water-resistant. A Water-resistant outershell and an innerliner which are made of air permeable and water resistant fabric must be used. 3. Korean protective clothing's outershell and innerliner should be made of fabric that is more heat-resistant, flame-resistant, and chemical resistant. 4. Protective clothing should be more brightly colored and its reflective tape should have greater reflectivity to make firefighters more visible. 5. The fastner currently used in Korean protective clothing consists of Velcro, a button, and a D-ring which can not be opened and closed quickly. A better fastener would have just velcro and a zipper. 6. The uniform for Korean firefighters consists of only a protective coat and boots. Protective trousers should be added to the standard uniform. Also, a thermal harrier should be used in winter to protect firefighters from the cold. 7. Korean firefighters should be provided with their own personal sets of protective clothing to ensure a proper fit.

Ambient Air Waste Sorting Facilities Could Be a Source of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

  • The antimicrobial resistance of Staphylococcus spp. and Gram negative strains present in air samples from waste sorting facilities was assessed. Phenotypic studies have revealed a high percentage of strains of Staphylococcus spp. resistant to methicillin. Genotypically and by RT-PCR, it was found that the mecA gene usually associated with methicillin resistance was present in 8% of the Staphylococcus strains isolated. About 30% of the Gram negative strains from the same samples also displayed resistance to meropenem and 79% of these were resistant to multiple antibiotics from different classes, namely cephalosporins and β-lactams. The results suggest that in professional activities with high levels of exposure to biological agents, the quantification and identification of the microbial flora in the work environment, with the determination of the presence of potential agents displaying multi-resistances is of relevance to the risk assessment. The personal protection of workers is particularly important relevance in these cases, since many of the strains that exhibit multi-resistance are potential opportunistic agents.

공기 스프링 댐퍼 시스템(ASDS)의 개발 (Development of Air Spring Damper System(ASDS))

  • 연구목적: 경제적, 기술적 이유로 내진설계가 되지 않은 기존의 콘크리트 구조물이나 내진설계나 면진 시공이 어려운 저층의 콘크리트 구조물이 지진력을 받을 때, 액체가 아닌 공기를 이용한 감쇠장치인 공기 스프링 댐퍼 시스템(Air Spring Damper System, ASDS)을 제안하고 한다. 연구방법: 자유진동의 운동방정식에서 감쇠력(Damping Force) 항인 $f_D=c{\dot{v}}$에 대한 연구를 수행하고자 하며, 이 장치가 댐퍼로서의 감쇠능력을 갖는 지에 대하여 실험적, 이론적으로 분석하며 현장적용에 대한 가능성 여부를 검토 한다. 연구결과: 에어 댐퍼 시스템은 제작 및 시공이 간편하고 형상, 크기, 재료 등에 제한이 적어서 댐퍼 의 개수가 증가하더라도 강재 이력형 댐퍼에 비하여 월등히 경제적이라 사료된다. 결론: 공기 스프링 댐 퍼 시스템에서는 감쇠비를향상을 위하여 공기 입출용 구멍의 직경을 줄이는 것이 필수이지만, 직경이 어느 이하의 크기로 줄어들면 공기의 압축성에 대한 고려가 필요하므로 공기 입출용 구멍의 직경과 공 기 압축성의 상관성에 대하여 추가적인 연구가 필요하다.
