  • This study has analyzed city plans and disaster prevention plans from the perspective of resilience and established a direction of the development of city safety standards. The analysis made use of the 5 functions of resilience (5Rs) and foreign cases. As a result of the analysis, the direction of the development of city safety standards was drawn from 4 perspectives at large. First, this study proposed a method of the systematization of the safety standards involved in components within city plans. Second, it suggested a method to strengthening urban resilience abilities in terms of the association between disaster prevention and city plans. Third, it found out components requiring safety standards considering foreign and other standards, and proposed a direction of complementary measures for safety standards. Lastly, it came up with a direction of the development of city safety standards, the necessity of which are required though existing plan criteria did not contain them. This study is significant in that it has defined the ultimate goal of safety a city should pursue as resilience and proposed a direction of the development of related standards.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define and clarify the concept of 'resilience' in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Methods: A hybrid model was used to develop the concept of resilience. The model included a field study carried out in Cheonan, Korea. The participants in this study were 9 patients with cardiovascular diseases who underwent a percutaneous coronary intervention. Results: The concept of resilience was found to be a complex phenomenon having meanings in two dimensions: the personal-dispositional and interpersonal dimensions. Four attributes and seven indicators were defined. Conclusion: A resilient person was defined as one who has a positive attitude toward restoration, the power to reconstruct and control his/her disease (personal dimension), and support from a supportive system with supportive persons (interpersonal dimension). In the clinical setting, resilience plays an important role in managing the care plans of cardiovascular patients. Therefore, nurses who work closely with patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases should be aware of the attributes and indicators of resilience to enhance the resilience of their patients.

  • The goal of this study was to identify important priorities of 'family narrative' program to enhance resilience, and to seek significant variables of students' personal characteristics and family narrative-related characteristics that are positively related to the domains of resilience. This study aimed to suggest a plan of resilience program for university students. Resilience consists of 7 domains, and they were analyzed using logistic analysis. Specifically, the effects of personal characteristics and family narrative-related characteristics of the students were examined in relation to each domain of resilience. The result indicated that the key priorities for family narrative programs, which were suggested by Social Welfare university students, were (1) understanding and finding meanings within major family stories; (2) identifying family strategies for overcoming crises and exploring their underlying meanings; and (3) identifying and finding meanings within family achievements. Based on the result, this study suggested resilience program plans that were intended to improve the level of resilience of university students.

  • TThe cooperation on disaster prevention between the two Koreas has been mostly focused on cooperation at the recovery stage, such as emergency relief supplies and equipment support. This study aims to articulate future practical development plans by analyzing disaster cooperation between North and South Korea in accordance with the changing paradigm of international disaster cooperation. Considering the specificity of inter-Korean cooperation, the Framework for Inter-Korean Disaster Prevention Cooperation was established centering on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The framework consists of understanding and sharing disaster risks, building back better, strengthening community resilience, and supporting regional disaster action plans for continuous action. Inter-Korean disaster prevention cooperation requires sharing information about North Korean disasters. It is necessary to accurately identify and support social vulnerability to North Korean disasters. Above all, it is supporting the development of disaster action plans from a humanitarian perspective needs. A medium-to-long term resilience reinforcement plan that North Korea can resolve on its own is also needed. Since North Korea is also deeply interested in international disaster cooperation, it should be based on the direction of the Sendai Framework. Considering the uniqueness of inter-Korean cooperation, a path for North Korea to actively participate in international disaster cooperation should be established.

  • Although there have been a lot of efforts to improve water quality in the estuarine reservoir, overall the water quality problems of the estuarine reservoirs remain. So, it is essential to establish water quality management plans under a comprehensive understanding of the environmental characteristics of the estuarine reservoir. Therefore, in this study, a resilience analysis framework for evaluating the estuarine reservoir's water quality was suggested for improving existing assessment method for water quality management plan. First, as a result of analyzing the static resilience to each scenario, it was found that from the S3 scenario in which dredging was conducted considerably, the resilience of about 30% more than the current estuarine reservoir system was restored. Second, as a result of analyzing the dynamic resilience, if cost and time are considered, there is no significant difference in robustness and resourcefulness, so it can be seen that the resilience of the estuarine reservoir can be efficiently improved by simply performing dredging up to the level of Scenario 3. Finally, as a result of comparing static and dynamic resilience, since static resilience is only presented as a single value, the differences and characteristics of the resilience capacity of the estuarine reservoir might be overlooked only by the static resilience analysis. However, in the aspect that it is possible to interpret the internal recovery capacity of the estuarine reservoir in multiple ways with various indicators (robustness, redundancy, resourcefulness, rapidity), evaluating water quality based on dynamic resilience analysis is useful.
