This study was carried out to determine the changes in quality during the drying process and the optimum drying condition for utilizing soybean curd residue. The quality criteria for soybean curd residue were acid value, peroxide value, fatty acid composition and microbial concentration. The acid values of soybean curd residue were 7.5, 4.5 and 5.9 KOH mg/g upon 12 hour drying with open-air sun, ambient-air blast and warm-air blast, respectively. The numbers of total aerobic bacteria and molds increased remarkably during drying with open-air sunlight, ambient-air blast and warm-air blast except for hot air blast. Among different drying methods, the hot air blast drying(1kg of sample) was the most effective methods, which completed in three hours. Also, the drying method demonstrated a typical drying curve ; settling down, constant rate drying and falling rate drying period were shown within one hour, from one and three hours and after three hours, respectively. Moreover, there was significant variation in the constant drying period for the quality of soybean curd residue.
The study Was carried out to determine the residue concentrations of peniccillin in Merket milk samples collected from some of the retail shops located in Seoul City. During the period from June to September 1974, 160 milk samples were collected and examined, using the Filter Paper Disk Method, for Screening test and Quantitative test of penicillin residue. The results obtained in the study were as follows: 1. Among the 160 Market Milk samples. 28 samples (17.5%) proved to contain some antibiotics residue. 2. In the case of the antibiotics residue positive milk samples, the rate of penicillin residue alone was 46.4% and the rate of the other antibiotics was 53.6%. 3. In the distribution of milk plants examined in relation-to the antibiotics residue positive milk samples, it was shown that S.K.H. and M.Market Milk plants had 15.0, 17.5, 20.0 and 17.5 percent respectively. 4. According to the monthly distribution, the highest antibiotics residue positive rate (25.0% of the samples) was shown in the samples collected in August, and the next (20.0% of the samples) in July. While the samples collected in June and September 1974 Showed lower rates of 7.5% and 17.5% respectively. 5. The range of the residue concentraction of penicillin in the positive milk samples were as follows: a. 53.8% of the total samples were found in the lowest range of 0.02-0.05 IU/ml. b. 30.8% of the total samples were found in the lower range of 0.05-0.1 IU/ml. c. 7.7% of the total samlpes were found in the higher range of 0.1-0.2 IU/ml. d. 7.7% of the total samples were found in the highest range of over 0.2 IU/ml.
This study was carried out to investigate the current status of pesticide residues in 3,735 agricultural products in the northern area of Seoul from January to December in 2008. 3,735 samples, comprising 119 types of agricultrural products were assessed via a multiresidue method to detect 260 pesticides. Pesticide residues were detected in 19.7% (737 of 3,735 samples), and the rate at which the detected residues violated the maximum residue levels(MRLs) of the Korean Food Code was 3.2% (121 of 3,735 samples). Pesticide residues were detected in 72 spin-aches, 64 peppers, 45 sweet peppers, 40 perilla leaves, 38 korean cabbages and 37 dried agricultural products. The samples that violated the MRLs included 14 perilla leaves, 13 spinaches, 12 leek, 6 lettuces(leaf), 6 chards and 6 gyeojchaes. Procymidone, endosulfan, chlorfenapyr, cypermethrin, bifenthrin, tebuconazole and fenvalerate were all frequently observed. Procymidone, endosulfan, dimethomorph and diniconazole were the pesticides most frequently detected at levels that violated the Korean Food Code MRLs.

Experiments on zebrafish embryo toxicity and whitening efficacy, which is an alternative experimental animal model, were conducted using coffee by-products. As a result of the embryo toxicity test treated with the coffee residue extract, the coagulation rate was 3, 3, and 5% at 24, 48, and 72 hpf and concentration of 125 ppm, respectively. The hatching rate of embryos was 73% at the highest concentration of 125 ppm. In the heart beat rate experiment of zebrafish larva, the heart beat rate after 72 hpf was confirmed to be 153 times/60 s' at a concentration of 125 ppm. The negative control group showed no significant change in heart rate compared to the control group at 148 times/60s', and showed low toxicity. In addition, as a result of evaluating the whitening effect in zebrafish, melanin formation was inhibited as the concentration of the coffee residue extract increased. The results of this study suggest the possibility that naturally derived by-product materials can be used as raw materials for cosmetics, and are expected to be used in the cosmetics industry as an example of research that increases the added value of natural product residue.
The effects of formic acid and formaldehyde treatment and methionine supplementation to ladino clover fibrous residue silage on eating and rumination behaviour were studied in sheep. From the ladino clover fibrous residue, two silage were prepared, either untreated or treated with formic acid and formaldehyde. Four experimental diets: untreated silage, treated silage, untreated silage with supplementation of methionine and treated silage with supplementation of methionine, were offered to four sheep at a restricted level of DM intake (2% of BW/d) twice daily in a two-way layout design. Methionine supplementation with the treated silage significantly (p < 0.05) reduced daily time spent eating, and consequently, markedly increased rate of eating. However, there was little effect of methionine supplementation on the daily time spent eating and eating rate for sheep offered untreated silage. Methionine supplementation with the treated silage reduced daily time spent ruminating, although the same effect was not observed for untreated silage. The rumination index (time spent ruminating/100 g DM eaten) was remarkably smaller (p < 0.05) with methionine supplement in feeding treated silage, although it did not differ for sheep offered untreated silage. There were no clear effect of methionine supplementation on the rumination efficiency (i.e. number of chews/bolus, bolus time and rumination chewing rate) both feeding untreated silage and treated silage.
Pirimiphos - methyl was fogged in a tobacco warehouse to determine the proper dose rate, Small wire cages, containing adults and larvae of cigarette beetle (Lasiodema senicorne F.) were put at different altitude in the warehouse of which the holding capacity was about 250m3. At recommended dose rate, 0.4ml/m3(25% ai), it brought about 100% mortality of adults and 98.8% -100% mortality of larvae. When the dose rate was reduced to about half the recommended one, 97.6 and 96.4% mortality could still be obtained against adults and larvae, respectively. The number of the beetles monitored by sex - pheromone trap was greatly reduced after the fogging in the warehouses at 4 geographic places in Korea. When the warehouses were ventilated for one hour immediately after the fogging done for 48 hours, workers could not detected any opposing smell in the warehouses. And panel members responded positively that there was no negative effect on the taste of the cigarettes made of the fogged tobacco. Although the residue of the chemical was detected from the cigarettes in 4 of 5 cases, the residue was 1.1-1.3$\mu\textrm{g}$/20 cigarettes except for one case from which 3.3$\mu\textrm{g}$/20 cigarettes residue was detected. The relatively low residue is about l/450-1/150 of the WHO/FAO tolerant level.
The freeze dried young antler residue was extracted by proteases and hydrochloric acid(HCl). The young antler was extracted by water at 50$^{\circ}C$ and the residue was reacted by proteases for 5 hours at 50$^{\circ}C$. The extraction rate of its residue was 32.8%(absorbance 3.61 at 280nm) of bacteria protease, 23.8%(absorbance 0.69) of papain, and 31.2% (absorbance 2.96) of pepsin. The young antler was extracted by boiling water and the residue was reacted by proteases for 5 hours at 50$^{\circ}C$. The extraction rate of its residue was 45.0%(absorbance 3.61) of bacteria protease, 30.4%(absorbance 0.33) of papain, and 51.2% (absorbance 2.77) of pepsin. The result of HPLC analysis reveals that in 50$^{\circ}C$ water extract and boiling water extract, all high molecular peak was reduced under MW 1,000 by proteases. The result from the extract of young antler residue reacted by HCl for 5 hours at 50$^{\circ}C$ shows that its extraction rate was 45% (absorbance 0.78) in concentration of 0.1N HCl, 61% (absorbance 1.82) in 0.2N, 81% (absorbance 2.29) in 0.4N, and 82.0% (absorbance 3.28) in 2.0N. The result of HPLC analysis also reveals that in the extract by 0.8N HCl, the peak of about MW 70,000 accounted for 78% in total. Protein content of the extract by 0.8N HCl was 8.2%, and content of amino acid was 81.6%, ash was 1.3%, and mineral contents were 0.1 % of Ca, 2.3% of P, 0.8 % of Mg, 3.4% of Na, 0.002% of F by dry base.
GRLs(Guidance Residue Levels) of agricultural chemicals for tobacco are recommended by the CORESTA Agro-Chemical Advisory Committee guide. In the GRLs list, organochlorine group is one of pesticides commonly used on tobacco cultivation. In this model study, the quantitative correlation in the transfer rate of pesticide residue into tobacco smoke by spiking of organochlorine pesticides to cigarette and pyrolysates were investigated. The spiking concentration referred to the range of GRLs list and the organochlorine pesticides in mainstream smoke were analyzed by GC-MS. For the understanding of the composition variation versus temperature, the behavior of pesticides was investigated by pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(Py-GC-MS). In this study, the transfer rate of pesticide residue into tobacco smoke at four different spiking concentration and the composition of pyrolysates were analyzed differently. At $10\;{\mu}g/cig$ spiking concentrations, the organochlorine pesticides were transferred into tobacco smoke in $0.02\;{\sim}\;10.19\;%$ each of component and the most of pesticides were pyrolyzed during smoking. It was found that the decomposition compounds from organochlorine pesticides were mainly composed of oxygenated and nitrogenous compounds. This study could estimate that the transfer rate of pesticides into tobacco smoke is very small amount.
Digital systems are increasingly being used in the ranges of many control engineering. The residue number system offers the possibility of high speed operation and error correction. The compact self-checking pulse-train residue arithmetic circuit is proposed. A fault tolerant digital filter is practically implemented using these proposed circuits.
This study discusses the feasibility of coffee bean residue as a raw material of medium-density fiberboard (MDF). In this relation, the effect of coffee bean residue known as an absorbent material on the physical and mechanical properties of MDF manufactured at its different addition level. Coffee bean residue which is a by-product of coffee mill and large amount of waste left over after processing for instant coffee was added at the level of 3, 6, and 9% on dry basis and urea formaldehyde resin was used as the adhesive. The MDF made with mixture of wood fiber and coffee bean residue was tested for physical and mechanical properties as well as formaldehyde emission. The bending strength and internal bonding strength of the MDF made with mixture of wood fiber-coffee bean residue were higher than that of the KS standard in randomized mat structure type, but not in layered mat structure type. Also, the physical properties of MDF made with mixture of wood fiber-coffee bean residue showed a considerable improvement in thickness swelling over the commercial MDF. More importantly, the formaldehyde emission rate of MDF made with mixture of wood fiber-coffee bean residue met the KS standard and was close to that of commercial MDF. These results showed the feasibility of coffee bean residue as a raw material for the production of environmentally-friendly MDF. Additional works on adhesive-coffee bean compatibility, improvement of moisture absorption effect and reduction the formaldehyde emission rate by carbonization of coffee bean residue may be required.
