A new method is introduced to build up organic/organic multilayer films composed of cationic poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) using the spinning process. The adsorption process is governed by both the viscous force induced by fast solvent elimination and the electrostatic interaction between oppositely charged species. On the other hand, the centrifugal and air shear forces applied by the spinning process significantly enhances desorption of weakly bound polyelectrolyte chains and also induce the planarization of the adsorbed polyelectrolyte layer. The film thickness per bilayer adsorbed by the conventional dipping process and the spinning process was found to be about 4 ${\AA}$ and 24 ${\AA}$, respectively. The surface of the multilayer films prepared with the spinning process is quite homogeneous and smooth. Also, a new approach to create multilayer ultrathin films with well-defined micropatterns in a short process time is Introduced. To achieve such micropatterns with high line resolution in organic multilayer films, microfluidic channels were combined with the convective self-assembly process employing both hydrogen bonding and electrostatic intermolecular interactions. The channels were initially filled with polymer solution by capillary pressure and the residual solution was then removed by the .spinning process.
Objectives : The present study was conducted to examine the effect of Cudraniae Tricuspidatae Radix(CTR), which is the radix part of Cudrania tricuspidata Bureau, on cytokine secretion from the joint cells and spleen cells of mice with arthritis induced by collagen and verify its efficacy against rheumatoid arthritis. Methods : Three kinds of extract were prepared from CTR through extraction with hot-water and ethanol. The levels of cytokine secreted from the cells were measured, after the mice knee joint cells were cultured with each extract. Results : The three kinds of extracts from CTR decreased the growth rate and levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, and TNF-${\alpha}$ from knee joint cells of mice. All of the organic-soluble fraction, such as hexane, ethyl ether, ethyl acetate, butanol, and residual water-soluble fraction decreased the levels of IL-$1{\beta}$, TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6, and IL-10. Conclusion : These results suggest that CTR had some effects on rheumatitis, with fat and water-solubles in organic solvent considered as the effective element.
Adhesion tests were carried out in order to investigate the effect of temperature on the adhesion behavior between a PMMA film and a fused silica lens in the micro scale. For the tests, a microtribometer system was specially designed and constructed. The pull-off forces on the PMMA film were measured under atmospheric condition as the temperature of the PMMA film was increased from 300 K to 443 K and decreased to 300 K. The contact area between the PMMA film and the lens was observed during the test. The adhesion behavior was changed with the change of the PMMA surface state as the temperature increased. In glassy state below 363 K, the pull-off force did not change with the increase of temperature. In rubbery state from 383 K to 413 K, the pull-off force increased greatly as the temperature increased. In addition, the area of contact was enlarged. In viscous state above 423 K, the fingering instability was observed in the area of contact when the PMMA film contacted with the lens. It was also found that the adhesion behavior can be varied with the thermal history of the PMMA film. The residual solvent in the PMMA film could emerge to the PMMA surface due to the heating and reduced the pull-off force.
This study was conducted to develope a simple, rapid and solvent-free solid-phase microextraction(SPME) procedure for extracting three organochlorine, one triazine and nine organophosphorus pesticides from water. The optimal conditions of SPME for analyses of organochlorine pesticides were obtained at $250^{\circ}C$ of desorption temperature, 45 minutes of equilibrium time, pH 6 and NaCl 0% addition using $100{\mu}m$ polydimethylsiloxane fiber and those of triazine and organophosphorus pesticides were obtained at $270^{\circ}C$ of desorption temperature, 60 minutes of equilibrium time, pH 6 and NaCl 0% addition using $100{\mu}m$ polydimethylsiloxane fiber. This method showed good lineality for organochlorine pesticides between 0.0001 and $10{\mu}g/L$ with regression coefficients ranging 0.9986~0.9992 and for triazine and organophosphorus pesticides between 0.01 and $10{\mu}g/L$ with regression coefficients ranging 0.9867~0.9998.
Immediate use of activated carbon incorporated polysulfone membrane application for dye separation was reported in this work. Dimethylformamide (DMF) was used as the solvent for the membrane preparation. The membrane thus prepared were characterized in terms of surface morphology, ATR-FTIR, AFM, experimental results as membrane performance. The resultant nanofiltration (NF) membranes were tested with Congo red dye concentration 200 mg/L. The water permeability was found to be considerably higher than that reported in literature. Experimental results show that the real rejection of the Congo red is 99.57% over the transmembrane pressure 100 psi using 30% activated carbon incorporated membrane. Prepared NF membranes shows the corresponding permeates fluxes were $40Lm^{-2}h^{-1}$ to $82Lm^{-2}h^{-1}$ with different activated carbon percentage incorporated in polysulfone membrane. The present study demonstrated that dye rejection enhanced NF may be a feasible method for the dye wastewater treatment. The overall observations thus indicated that toxic residual dyes can be appreciably separated from the membrane technology, provided that the accompanying polymeric membrane, activated carbon as binding agents and the process parameter levels are astutely selected.
High pollutant-loading capacities (up to 319 times its own weight) are achieved by three-dimensional (3D) macroporous, slightly reduced graphene oxide (srGO) sorbents, which are prepared through ice-templating and consecutive thermal reduction. The reduction of the srGO is readily controlled by heating time under a mild condition (at 1 10−2 Torr and 200℃). The saturated sorption capacity of the hydrophilic srGO sorbent (thermally reduced for 1 h) could not be improved further even though the samples were reduced for 10 h to achieve the hydrophobic surface. The large meso- and macroporosity of the srGO sorbent, which is achieved by removing the residual water and the hydroxyl groups, is crucial for achieving the enhanced capacity. In particular, a systematic study on absorption parameters indicates that the open porosity of the 3D srGO sorbents significantly contributes to the physical loading of oils and organic solvents on the hydrophilic surface. Therefore, this study provides insight into the absorption behavior of highly macroporous graphene-based macrostructures and hence paves the way to development of promising next-generation sorbents for removal of oils and organic solvent pollutants.
Azeotropic drying process is routinely applied to enhance nucleophilicity of $[^{18}F]$fluoride ion during the nucleophilic production of PET radiotracers; however, the drying process requires usually 15-25 min. Due to the high demand of employing fluorine-18 ($t_{1/2}=109.8min$) in PET radiopharmaceutical production, several research groups have focused on the method development, obviating tedious removal process of the residual target water ($[^{18}O]H_2O$) for $[^{18}F]$fluoride ion complex to be used in radiofluorination. Some development in radiofluorination in a mixed organic solvent system was demonstrated with various aliphatic substrates, but only kryptand as a phase transfer agent was utilized in the reported method. Here, we extend to investigate the development scope of applicability with basic alkyl ammonium salt as a phase transfer agent through the extensive elution efficiency study and radiofluorination outcome for aliphatic radiofluorination.
